I have read negative posts in the past about Coach Phillips of Richlands. From what Central Wise folks were posting after the Richlands-Central game Wed night at UVA Wise they had nothing but praise and admiration for Coach Phillips and the Richlands team for outstanding sportsmanship. In a time of discord and division all across America I think this is very refreshing to see. If any were at the game and would like to elaborate, please do.

I think the Graham and Central game will be a great game. Think Gate City, Eastside and Honaker move on. Then Eastside and Honaker will be a great match up...Graham and Gate City would be another good game.

Gate City wins 83 to 70 over Central. Mac with 41 points.

64 to 55 end of the 3rd...Gate City leads. Mac with 31.

40 to 37 at halftime. Gate City leads Central at Gate City middle school. Very close game. Mac with 21 points at halftime. Ervin with only 4 points.

Va has won some close games. I worry they have a poor offensive game and the other team gets hot from behind the arc and Va gets out of their game plan. Duke seems to either falter big time in the tourney or become giant killers. Could there be a Cinderella team that no one made a fuss over and get crowned as National champs?

Wise did choke. But so did Union. You offered a definition from Wikipedia that affirms both teams choked. We can go over that Wikipedia definition once again that was pointed out in my last post if you desire too. Anyway great conversing with you. So you are saying Union wasn't favored to beat Central and Battle? And they were called upsets. Union was favored to beat Battle and led after 3 straight quarters and choked. The failure of a team in a game where maintaining their performance is highly important. Union failed to maintain their performance in the 4th quarter and choked according to Wikipedia.

Sounds like Union choked twice. Favored to win against Central and Battle. So the Wikipedia definition says they choked...a game or tournament that they are strongly favored to win''...

As I said a simple post about a Central win over Union has got you out of sorts. And I love Wes Slagle. Good friend of mine. He is a great player and person. Sad he got injured. He will have to carry the load next yr with Mitchell being gone. Central will miss Dalton Mullins. Gate City will be without Mac. Who knows how the teams will do next year. Should be interesting to see how GC adapts. Ridgeview, Lee, and Battle perhaps about the same as this year. Don't see Abingdon overachieving either. Gate City and Graham this year. Other guys will exit early.

See your definition of choke is different than 99% of the rest of the world. When you are up 3 quarters out of 4 and you lose then you choke. You got butthurt that Union choked and someone mentioned it. And Central that you despise even got a higher seed in the tournament. But all teams choke in sports. Pro, college, youth. Nothing to get overly upset over.

Union led 3 out of 4 quarters and lost. They lose the game in the 4th quarter. Sounds likethey choked..

Folks the other day posting about Wise Central being the choking capital of the region need to be careful about putting teams down. Might turn around and be their team. Union can still bounce back. Juxt how tough mentally are they?

Just saw this on Twitter. Central 58-55 over Union. Huge win for the Warriors. Was anyone at the game to share commentary?

Just curious if seniors in previous years got to play in as many post regular season games as current seniors get to. Could Mac have more games to score more points as guys say 10 or 15 yrs did back?

In 2011 Clintwood football got beat by nearly 60 points to Grayson County. They were humiliated. They came back and never lost a game that year and won the State Championship. After falling to Grayson County they had a record of 1-2. They finished 13-2. They beat George Wythe and a great Sussex team in playoffs. Then beat Galax 33-28 for State. Galax had beaten Grayson County that yr. So after being beat by nearly 60 points by Grayson you have to play the team that beat them for a State Championship. I was a part of that season and with the team helping and encouraging. The Greenwave guys said they never wanted to feel the feeling they experienced when losing to Grayson. They used it as a motivation each and every game. So in reality the Grayson game turned out to be a blessing in some ways. It's how you deal with the circumstance. They used it not to wallow in defeat, but to become better.

Heard good things about Martin. How does he compare to Roman Workman who played a coupleyrs ago for Graham?

I know Mac is the top senior in our SWVA region. Who would you have 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc.. Who impresses you and stands out in this 2017-2018 Hoops season ? Luke Lawson of Eastside is having a great year...would he be a possible # 2?

Thanks for your helpful update. Think the latter 2 or 3 games may be tougher to average the points he needs to break Tanners. He may need 3 or 4 super games of 50+points to help get him over the top!
