  1. Seems like turnovers were the big downfall for these guys last year, if I remember correctly in the playoff game against Tazewell both teams had around 5 to 7 turnovers a piece!

That's right. We tried to blame the cold weather but i'm not buying that. In the playoff game against glenvar we threw 6 picks and had atleast 1, maybe 2 fumbles and somehow were down 3 late in the fourth. It was for sure a problem.

  2. I like our Bears chances this year, but I see a big need for some young kids to step up on the O Line and D Line. We lost some really good lineman on both sides of the ball. We have the talent at the skill positions for sure and I think Spears will be a huge asset at QB both with his arm and legs. With the schedule we play it will be an exciting season!

We did lose a couple linemen, but at the same time we have some great guys coming back. Skill positions we can Match up with anyone in 2A in my opinion. And with playing Crockett and Letcher Central, power points up the wazoo!

  3. Bryce is definitely the starter unless something unexpected happens. I haven't been able to see him throw any, but based on last year, he's a great runner. That will provide a good dynamic for the offense this year.

Someone on the team told me he has a cannon. Many believe he should have started last year, no disrespect to Tanner hall though.

  4. That game was unfortunate for both. Lee had our Bears, thought they had it won and then that call. Union battled. Unfortunately, they got the win from a bad call. Union benefited from a bad call. Every team has benefited from a bad call sometime or another. Richlands, Gate City, the former Powell Valley, the former Appalachia, Lee, Burton, etc. Unfortunately it has happened, still happens, and will continue to happen. Officials--as foolish as they are sometimes--are human. Nobody can change it. The powers that be can just take steps to keep it from happening again.

Some of the Lee faithful from work say Lee won't be near what they were last season. I would like to see them do well. It will just make the Brawl for the Bucket that much more exciting. Before consolidation, during the Boot Bowl between Lee and PV, there were some good match ups. There were some Battles of the Boot where the games were just downright awful (1997, 2003, 2004, 2005 for example). Beating your rivals is that much more exciting when they are good.

I would like to see a Union/Giles series. There was a little bit of bad blood between Giles and Powell Valley.

I agree completely, I hope Lee does well. The fan support down there certainly deserves it.

As for Union/Giles, I think that would be electric. When we went up there it would be tough, but when they come to The park it may rival the Richlands games, IMO.

  5. I have Union tabbed at 3rd in the west behind Glenvar and Richlands and just ahead of Giles and Gate City. The west will be a fun side this year and I feel the battle for the 1 seed will be tight. It may take a 10-0 season to be the 1 seed.

I agree. It will be tough between those 5 teams that you mentioned. I Hope When we play you all it isn't like the past two seasons, I'm not sure I can take much more of that. LOL

  6. 1. Union at J.I Burton -    I'm anxious to see the debut of Burton running back Isaac Perrigan. A lot of hype around him.

     2. Richlands at Union-  What more can be said? The past 4 years between these two have been thrillers.

     3. Union @ Lee-   I'm tired of hearing about referees and these games at 5 star stadium are always electric, no matter how good of a team the Generals have.

  7. The Bears will return 8 Starters on the Offensive side along with another 8 on the defensive side (I believe). They do lose the quarterback, but most people believe the new QB (Bryce Spears) Will be even better than last years 2000 yard passer, Tanner Hall. I keep in mind even though this team had their up and downs last season, they lost to the eventual state champs by 10 even though they had 7 turnovers. Anyone else have any opinions?
