  1. On Harlan County:

“We are 50 times better than them,” Mark said. “I don’t respect coach from the Harlan team, because you had your own relationship with the referees and that’s why we’re not shaking your hand, because you already knew the game was fixed. I don’t care if anybody wants to look at me funny or crazy, but what I just seen and what I endured and our kids being called boy – it’s ridiculous.”

    On the refs in general:

It wasn’t as much the calls that made Mark furious, but a matter of deportment by the three refs.

“You don’t call kids boy, OK,” Mark said. “You don’t call kids boy on the floor, OK. You know what I’m saying. I don’t even want to reference it; I don’t even want to go into it. “

    Yet, Mark wasn’t finished.

“That was embarrassing,” Mark said. “That was very embarrassing. I’m gonna reiterate that – you don’t call a young man boy. In this time, this era, you don’t call kids boy, you understand? That’s not how you treat people that come up here to try to compete for your event. It’s not how you treat people.”

Was anyone at the south shore game today? Did their coach genuinely have an argument or he just being a sore loser? I feel like something must have happened for him to tell Tim Hayes that it was “bullsh!t.” He was also rambling on about something to do with the officials calling his players boys? Seems like he is just a cry baby if he gets that upset over the word boy. Would he prefer his players get called they/them?

I was there and sitting right behind their bench.

He, as well as their whole team, are thugs.

Were the refs out to get them? Sure. But they brought it on theirselves the way they acted the whole tournament.

It’s not like there’s a bunch of schools within distance of Wise, and Wise doesn’t have the draw that Bristol does in terms of hosting schools from way out of town etc.  More Kentucky schools would be good, I know Letcher came a few years ago

I agree that you don’t want to play a team 3-4 times a year, that’s definitely the drawback, but it’s a good chance for local kids to play in a nice facility in a tournament setting.

Me and a fellow member of the board were talking about this on Facebook this morning.

Invite a couple of the Kentucky schools. Also some of the smaller Tennessee schools who don't get invited to holiday tournaments like Happy Valley or Unaka or UH.

I'm not positive but I don't believe West Ridge was doing anything this week. If they were my daughter didn't mention it.

Completely understand where you’re coming from. Does it make sense to play teams in a tourney that you might have to end up playing in the playoffs? Nope not at all. But personally that’s what I find entertaining about it. Watching multiple rivalry games in one day only for 10 dollars is a sports fan dream

    You're right...

I can see now where I was perhaps a little bit harsh.

Based on the responses looks like majority agrees with you.

I should've said "I don't like this tournament" and left it at that.

Holiday tournaments to me are supposed to be about fresh matchups that aren't likely to be seen or at the very least maybe a future playoff rematch later down the road.

Imagine thinking so highly of yourself that you make this statement in a public forum.

    Truly breathtaking

I'm not alone... I'm just the only one who will say it.

There will be people there today that I have talked to who feel the same way.

If you look at the bracket in the first round, everyone is away from their district opponents for the most part.

Lmao. It's inevitable! Sure you can draw the bracket up that way for the first round but there is no way possible that you're going to avoid it the entire tournament.

I will say one good thing about this... At least it IS a tournament.

The Food City Thanksgiving Tournament at Sullivan East is worse than this. It's CALLED a tournament but it's NOT a tournament. The schools in it each play three games during the week. Best record is the tournament "champion". If two teams go 3-0 then they're Co champions. But at least district matchups are avoided in it.

You have a right to your opinion but if you don’t like it, don’t go, don’t read about it, don’t worry about it. Why make a comment like that?  There’s always a negative Nancy out there.

Don't worry. Haven't ever been don't ever plan to in the future either. Lol

  8. Invite more variety of teams maybe?

    Look at the matchups today...

Ridgeview plays Eastside. They play again on Wednesday.

    Honaker plays Lebanon

    Rye Cove and Burton

    Union and Central.

You shouldn't be playing rivals or conference opponents in a holiday tournament.

Unfortunately, I'm watching from home or I absolutely would.

And I feel their pain lol! Today was our 6th in 10 days, and that Mentor game last night should count for two 😂 We looked like we were wearing it a little bit in the early going. Noah is the truth, but it sure did feel to me like Carter was the difference today...He was a tough matchup for us today, for sure.

Yeah man... Kentucky high school basketball is just on another level compared to Virginia or Tennessee.

Only one state champion. No classifications. Crazy.

I think Harlan will win the 13th region with little resistance. May win a game or two at Rupp in the sweet 16 as well depending on the draw.
