  1. This... I only pay for NFHS when it's state championship time for football and basketball and immediately cancel afterward.
  2. Was the incident involving the Ridgeview coach last season that got him sent packing similar or worse than this?
  3. I've had three people tell me in fact it was the younger son... so I guess he has two playing?
  4. Hearing now that this may be his son, so nothing may come out of it. Any Union fans see this?
  5. Well... This can't be good for Gobbble.
  6. Totally off topic here but a little nostalgia hit me on my recent week long trip to Indiana and not just the visit to the Knightstown gym where Hoosiers was filmed. In the 4A state high school basketball championship game, Fishers High School were victorious. Fishers are the Tigers, and their uniforms are red and white. It was good to see a group of Red Tigers win a state title in person, even if it wasn't our old alma mater. ๐Ÿ™‚
  7. I don't think I have ever done a wrestling pick em. How does it work?
  8. Unless it's a perfect game/no hitter, pitcher's duels are boring as well. Hence why I said that 1-0 Tigers and White Sox game I could've went to on Thursday would've put me to sleep. Lol
  9. So, while I was on vacation, my wife and I considered going to opening day in Chicago for the White Sox and Tigers. Could have got tickets fairly cheap but the outrageous amount for parking was what made us decide against it. Glad we didn't go now. Tigers won 1-0. I would have been bored out of my mind watching a 1-0 baseball game, especially with the one run not coming from a home run. I imagine folks got bored out of their minds who watched that VT and Wake football game several years ago be scoreless in regulation. I also get bored watching a 0-0 draw in soccer. How do you feel @EH31 and @Ryan4VT watching a scoreless draw unfold?
  10. Saw Lyon County win the state title in Kentucky last weekend. Lyon County is a 1A school and defeated 5A Harlan County in the championship game. Was kinda conflicted on who to pull for on whether to see the small school win or see the local team to our region win. What's remarkable is that Lyon County didn't even win the mid-season 1A state tournament or even get to the finals for that matter. Yet, they won the overall. Pretty cool story.
  11. I like it! As you said, it won't happen in Virginia or Tennessee, but it would be nice. This system is what makes postseason basketball in Kentucky so compelling. I have went to region semifinals in Kentucky the past three years and the intensity is crazy. I also like how Kentucky does the midseason state tournament for the small schools as well which is something Virginia could also adopt if they went with this system.
  12. I doubt it.... This season, a girl transferred from Daniel Boone to Knoxville Catholic at the start of the school year, played to the Christmas break with Catholic, and then transferred back to Boone and was eligible immediately and finished out the season at Boone.
  13. Seen that Ridgeview walloped Grundy the other night 22-0. Grundy may not have the best team, but the scoreline caught my eye for sure.
  14. Here is my thought... If Lebanon's stick and ball teams would touch home plate after they hit home runs, they might would win more games... ๐Ÿ˜„
  15. Hmmmm... don't think I know this story.
  16. Hockey is the same agenda... you must go to a game in person.... it is a LOT better than watching on TV. Baseball is the same... watching a MLB or minor league game in person is better than TV. I've been a hockey fan since 1994. I decided when I started watching, I would pull for the newest team. So, that's why I am a San Jose Sharks fan. I didn't get to catch a Sharks game live this year on one of their rare trips to the East Coast, unfortunately.
  17. Hatfield is an eastern Virginia guy anyway... He loves to see teams from this side of the state get beat down.
  18. Lol... I didn't come out and say that, but the thought had crossed my mind. And for the record, I like Robin and am not ashamed to say he's the wizard of high school basketball coaches in SWVA. I mean... we're seeing it everywhere these days.... Star player transfers from one Cumberland school to another and plays against her former school in the same week. In upper east Tennessee, a girl transferred to a Knoxville private school right before the season started, realized quickly she was going to be a little fish in a big pond, so transferred back.... before January and played immediately. It's not just JM.... it's beginning to happen everywhere. Ridgeview girls may be the only team left in the postseason where all of their players were born and raised in the area they play.
  19. Scotty Vermillion was very outspoken about JM a few years ago when Gate City were the Justices victim that year. Now that the girls program is doing the same... I will be very interested in hearing coach Dotson's take IF they first get past Ridgeview AND IF they lose to JM as bad as most people are beginning to realize is the very real possibility.
  20. Virginia High and Graham Friday at Lebanon 6:00 PM confirmed from someone within the Graham community I trust. Not UVa-Wise. Abingdon and LCA at Virginia High confirmed for Friday at 6:00.
  21. My predictions are: Boys: Auburn over Honaker Graham over Virginia High Girls: Honaker over Eastside Wise Central over Ridgeview Liberty Christian Academy over Abingdon Hope I am wrong on a couple of these though...
  22. Unofficially this is what I've been told: Eastside vs. Honaker at UVa-Wise Wise Central vs. Ridgeview at UVa-Wise Virginia High vs. Graham at UVa-Wise Abingdon vs. LCA at Virginia High Honaker vs. Auburn at Lebanon Abingdon girls wanted to play at Emory and Henry but were denied. UVa-Wise, Virginia High and Lebanon were approved semifinal venues. Semifinals MUST be played at a neutral location as chosen by the higher seed, hence why Virginia High can't play at the Bearcat Den. The only puzzling thing is why Honaker didn't choose UVa-Wise to play the boys game as this may split the fan base up. Hear they're going to try to play the girls game early so the Honaker fans can get to Lebanon as well, but it seems to me that the fans get the shaft for having to pay twice. Once again, this is what I was told.
  23. At the Dobyns-Bennett/Wise Central game this year, a Central parent told me that this was the case. That they were loading up the girls team like they had the boys.
  24. I was always told Floyd County was a small gym.
  25. Well on the bright side.... at least it's not in Wheeling and a much closer drive for Bluefield and Princeton and James Monroe.
