The sweetest thing about that 2011 Clintwood team and the 2012 GW team was the following week, they both went east with huge fan turnouts to semifinal games after a week of internet chatter about how we had zero chance and came away with wins.

To sweeten the pot, 2011 Galax and 2012 Honaker also took care of business at home in the semis, and we had two years of nothing but west representatives in the 1A title game.

Giles stole the show in 2013 with a 2A championship to boot.

Absolutely my favorite stretch of time as a high school football fan.

That was an absolute amazing time to be a football fan from swva.

The First Bolded part above is false, and..........The second (last) bolded part above is Partially true.  It should read, "so vaccine or not, Some games are going to be cancelled, but Less games will be cancelled with high vax rates."

So, it does change things according to the CDC.  The CDC says that.....if you are vaccinated and you come into contact with someone who has Covid, you do Not have to quarantine.  This means....you get to play.  You only have to take a Covid test in 5 days, but don't have to quarantine.  Yes, people who are vaccinated still get Covid, but the Amount of People who are vaccinated who are getting Covid is very low.  What is shutting down football programs?  Football players who are vaccinated getting Covid, or Football Players who are Not vaccinated coming into Contact with someone with Covid?  You and I both know the answer.  It's number two.  So yes, the statement stands, get vaccinated and you play.  Lets say a team had a very high vax rate of nearly 100%, the only people that would need to set out would be those who get Covid.  The other vax'd players could play, so you don't shut the entire team down.

By the way, the CDC say for people Not vaxd.  You get to stay inside for 10 days if you have been around ANYONE (just one student in shop, world history, or english class that doesn't even know how to keep score in football) who has a positive text for Covid.  This is what is shutting programs downs.  Kids on the team who are unvaxd come into contact with just one or two (only takes one) student who is in the school that likely doesn't even play sports, but has a positive Covid test.  IF those football players were vaxd and they came into contact, they wouldn't have to miss a beat.  They could literally practice that same day.

I'm not trying to get into any political conversation man. I'm simply stating games are going to be cancelled either way. I couldn't care less if people are or are not vaccinated. And it really wouldn't change anything like you said one kid or teacher or anyone gets it and comes in contact with this or that person it could me a cancellation. Again I'm not trying to get into any political conversation or battle with anyone about covid or anything else. We're simply living in a time where lots of things come second to people's health as it should and that means football comes second as well. It sucks for all of us and hopefully we aren't to far from the end but I honestly think we're just seeing the beginning of this crap. Sadly I don't think this winter will be to kind to us regarding covid.

Get vaccinated and they don't have to deal with is.  Choose not to get vaccinated and they get to deal with this.  It's that simple.

People who are vaccinated are still getting covid man so that wouldn't change anything. And it isn't just from kids playing football it's the entire school enough kids or staff get sick they cancel everything. So vaccine or not games are going to be cancelled.

  4. I hate that the kids are having to deal with this. Preparing and practicing all week for each other and stuff like this keeps happening. Hopefully they'll get to make it up later on and hopefully RL can find a replacement I'm pretty sure Tazwell is looking for an opponent this Friday.

Like I said jet Q trap and power have been GWs best plays for years if you can stop that then you win. Nothing has changed on the coaches side kids are just not executing at the level that we are use to seeing therefore it look like crap

Yeah sure same exact thing but you're not getting the concept that it is the same play literally 7-8 time in a row. Same side of the field same kid running it same everything. I've seen other coaches stack on side of the field and he keep running there. Mark Dixon and the LB #33 were call out our plays before we ran them. Not just saying it's going left no actually calling the name of the play. And no blaming the coaching isn't an easy out go look on preps where I made it perfectly clear WE WILL BE LUCKY TO WIN 6 GAMES. Graham will hang 60+ on us like we aren't on the field. So will Galax and Giles will probably beat us by 3+ scores unless they're really down. RR will gut us all night the only teams we will look like GW against are Bland and Auburn. 3 wins might actually be our cap this season and it will not surprise me. Go watch any recent film on GW with an objective view and come back and tell me you seriously believe we have good coaching. And as GDub said yes we are smaller on the line but the rest hasn't changed. GW is still loaded at all the skills our current QB isn't even a QB he's our best WR his twin is our real QB. The only place we've taken a bump is the line and it's not really skill on the line we've lost its size. Also as GDub said who the hell have we beat since harmer has been the Coach? We haven't beat a single opponent that was a challenge not one they've all been gimmes. Every time he has to actually do his job he is embarrassed go really watch the film go really look at the "wins". Ask 99% of GW faithful fans he is hated as coach not because we haven't won a title but because he is an absolutely terrible coach. The kids don't like him or respect him our numbers has steadily went down every year since he came it's all been bad. Thing of the GW teams from the past with H.S, Pruitt, Russell, Wheeler ect they all had the respect of the players and fans alike this man has neither.

I find is funny that yall are complaining about a coach running the same plays over and over. IMO the best offensive team on this side of the state (Union, Graham, and Central) probably have the simplest play books in the state. Union run their T formation and run trap, power, and sweep and are really good at it. Graham is a spread team that runs middle school level concepts they have great athletes and are very good at a small number of plays. Central runs the wing t that hasnt changed in years and they have a group of seniors that have been playing varsity for 3 years and they are mean SOBs and hit you in the mouth. When GW was really good they ran Jet Power and Q trap thats it but they were really good at it. Giles offense hasnt changed since 1928 and they run it up peewee up that why they are good. When you start changing a bunch of stuff and run a whole lot of different plays that means they arnt good at anything and you are asking 16 year old kids that cant stay off of tik toc to learn 5 or 6 different schemes. That is how to block a play one way. you double that for the other direction so 10-12. then you multiply that for the different defenses you see during a season so 4-3, 3-4, 3-3 stack, 4-2, and your bear front that a lot of teams like down here. So now you are asking a kid to learn 50 to 60 new plays. Just saying what the coaches call during the game is not the issue adding plays during the season is just going to confuse these kids. Execution is more important than play call.

We're not saying have this extremely complex play book. We're saying don't run literally the exact same play over and over and over expecting different results. That's the definition of insanity go watch any film on GW. You'll see we do nothing but jet sweep, QB up the middle, and power off the edges in the run game. And out of those we will run the exact same play repeatedly even if it gets stuff every time. And if we have success on something and get inside the 5 we then do the exact opposite of what has worked.

If GW runs the same plays 8 times in a row we may have a shot Friday night...I will tell our coach what GWs tendacies are..

What play do they run over and over? That would help to know that also

And on top of that our defense will literally not change the whole game. The only difference will be a blitz once or twice a Q other than that it stays the same. And if you can throw the ball the middle of the field will be WIDE OPEN ALL NIGHT! We don't use a safety we step an extra LB back 3-4 steps.

Jet power to the left repeatedly or QB up the middle. Not being an ass but it's not a secret haha go watch any film if you have nfhs network go watch GW vs FC you will see it lol.

who is saying GW is good lol lol. our coaches make no adjustments and think the spread is a run first offense. ahahhhahah they are not good. the team or coaches if there is any confusion

Could not agree more now I will say the kids are ALOT! Better than the coaching. We have talent all over the field but it's hard to show when the head coach runs the same play 8 times in a row. And as you said makes absolutely zero adjustments during the game or in practice. Plus our starting QB isn't really our starting QB his twin brother is and he is out until at least the last week of September maybe into October.

i dont think we returned 4 starters on offense and not that many on d. i would have to check that. i know we need to get Ben, Lukes  brother back in a bad way. word on the street he should be ready to go in october. he might be the best skilled player on the team.

Between the last week of September and the second week of October.

I was impressed with a couple of FC linebackers myself. Safety made an excellent read on the pick 6. To be honest, the previous series, it looked to me like the slant would be there all day in that formation. Obviously, I was wrong lol! We still have a lot to clean up on the offensive side of the ball, but I can't take anything away from what Fort did defensively.

I know what you're saying about Fort's offensive scheme as well. Not gonna lie, it was pretty evident to me early that we outmanned them pretty heavily on the edge. From that standpoint, I understand why their offense did what they did, but like you said, there was no counters, no "keep you honest", and no real threat of anything beyond Varney. 100% agree with you.

And for the life of me, I do not understand why in the hell Fort decided to punt from our 35. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Brandon Harner outcoached Spider in that moment and left our punt return unit on the sideline. Spider got what he deserved there lol.

Well said and I'm with on him finally out coaching someone every if it was for 1 single play. But the Graham, Galax asks Giles game have me worried. We can win the Giles game if we actually show up to play. But Bradshaw will score at will on his D I'm guessing that game is a 65+ point game for the G-Men and Galax will literally do whatever they please. I think 6-4 is the absolute high water mark this season unless the kids come together and soon. Getting our actual starting QB back will help ALOT but the toughest games we have will be played without him so...

I think Fort Chiswell comes out on top. GW doesn’t seem up to their normal level compared to other seasons. Of course, the season is just starting and I could be wrong.

Hey can I ask a favor? Can you please tell the G-Men when they come to GW to give Bradshaw a rest game haha. That kid is special I can't wait to watch him on the field. I'm not looking past any of it opponents but that game is shaping up to be rough for my Maroons. I still won't pick them to lose the game but..... Let's just say the score keeper is going to be busy that night trying to keep up.

  13. GW-35 FC-14 my main way if thinking here is fc can't seem to get it of their own way. In the benefit game with Marion they couldn't get going at all. And against RR mistakes killed them. And yes GW got taken behind the woodshed against raddy and yes we are young all over. But we are loaded with skills in the backfield and once our starting QB is back we should be fine. Both teams are coming off an L but I just think GW has more to prove a loss to raddy usually means bad things for our next opponent. But I won't be shocked if this one is ALOT closer than I'm predicting.

Indeed it was. One of the best games ever played at Giles.

I still have scars from that game. And I always loved playing at Giles you knew you were going to get one hell of a game out of them and you knew the fans would let you know about it. Just an amazing atmosphere to play in.

And for the life of me I can't remember the 2 brothers y'all had in the backfield that year. I remember tackling them, getting hit by them and trying to figure out who had the damn ball lol but i can't remember their names.

This year and last year Giles would barely be a top 10 team in 1A. A decent Giles team like back in 2017 would likely be a final 4 in 1A but who knows. As far as moving down to 1A, it could happen in the coming years. Giles also plays one of if not the toughest schedules in SWVA next to Richlands. We scrimmage 3A HV and Bluefield, then start our season with 4A Blacksburg, 3A Christiansburg, and Graham along with having to play Glenvar and Radford in district play.

By the way in 2013 Riverheads was good and Giles shut them down in the state semis. Holding them to only 7 points which has only been done by 3 teams in the last 10 years while Giles rushed for 331 yards. That was also the last year of RH being 2A.

No doubt a full tilt Giles team would be a legitimate contender every season. In 1A or 2A for that matter I have absolutely nothing but respect for that program. Some of my fondest memories of my playing days are against Giles. Like in 2007 when y'all came to GW and beat us and we got it back at Giles in the region C title game. So I'll be the 1st to say a healthy and whole Giles team is a damn hard thing to deal with.

My apologies, I was thinking region when I made the post. Obviously not state. I wouldn't be so quick to put Auburn on that list of teams that would have beaten Giles though. I still say Giles would be top 4 in Region C 1A this year. Galax, Wythe, Narrows, and Giles in that order

That I agree with top 4 in C yes and you're correct in that order.
