  1. I think everyone can agree Richlands should beat the Marions, Tazewells, Lebanons, & Virginia Highs of the world. My only point was on the games so far, they haven't been impressive as in the past. Either Richlands or Graham will take conference and both will go to the playoffs. Graham hasn't been as impressive either. They weren't as impressive  at the Bfield game this year as last year. It's hard to gauge there talent level against Tazewell since it was so lopsided or Bluefield's since the beat Princeton handily. Princeton used to have a solid program. Not surprising the one kid transferred from there to Richlands this year. He'll end up on a team with a better record at least.

  2. I'm not trying to ruffle feathers. It just seems the team isn't up to par as in past years from their performance at the  games so far this season. Could be coaching , could be the loss of those seniors from last year, could be less talented players, could be just a couple of poor outings, could be nothing in particular. The Blacksburg game should be good & the defense may be able to contain them. If defense allows another 290 yards rushing & has to spend majority of time on the field then it might not turn out too well. Offense needs to step it up.

The worst thing for Graham is playing Tazewell this week.  It will give a false sense of security when the QB takes the snap, drops back, gets rattled with the reads, then tucks and runs and unlike Bluefield, when he runs on Tazewell, nobody will be home and it's 6 points because the Tazewell defense will be that bad.  Look for the Graham QB to have huge yards on called pass plays and to have a huge game in rushing giving the Graham faithful a false sense of security at QB.  The problem for Graham is when they play a defense like Bluefield's, and Richlands and Giles will have a defense in the realm of Bluefields, and this is where the problems occur.  The same thing will happen in round 2, and definitely by round 3 of the playoffs.  Without a QB change at Graham, there is no way they get past round 3.  They literally are no threat to throwing the football and you can not win like that in 2017.  The 1980s are long gone, and I hate to say it, but ask Gate City fans.  We have had to learn the hard way the past few years, but even with this year, our QB can get the ball 7 yards in the air to a receiver accurately.  I have never really seen hardly anything like that at the High School level regarding the QB at Graham's inability to throw the ball what literally seems like is 7 yards.  The sad part about that situation is that it's hurting the kid at QB more than the kid who is currently not at QB because the kid currently at QB seems like he may be a D1/FBS type player at flanker or WR, and he is not being played at his best position.  The Graham coach should have made the change in the Gate City scrimmage, and definitely by the start of the Bluefield game, and if not that, by the 2nd half of the Bluefield game.  <------you can see the pattern here which is why I questioned the decision making of the Graham coach after seeing them in the second half of the Bluefield game.

My Gmen definitely have some kinks to work out. Totally agree with your synopsis of coaching decisions especially second half. I'm worried about how we'll handle Giles on Friday. LOS is weak.

What would a football season be without the transfer conversation? With that said, Greg Mance would be best person to answer your questions or concerns jarhead!! Lol......

Just kidding. Im sure there is a rule somewhere but I dont know it.

Mance needs to give Bluefield College recruiting tips, lol. Their program is in need of some serious help.

  5. I guess we'll know after next Friday if Richlands has the defense to stop Blacksburg or vice versa. No hearsay in a final score. Since my cousin played football there, knows the program well, I put a little more stock in what he says. Like I said, hopefully a good, injury free game for both sides.

Isn't the former DC's brother now the current DC?

Bleacher coaches are some of the best.  Perfect game calling, plans and development of players, while occupying their seats for 2-3 hours on Friday nights.

No ill will intended toward anyone, past or present.

No clue, I would have to ask my cousin but that sucks if your brother takes your job. I don't know either personally just going on what my cousin said, He went to HS there & played. I agree about bleacher coaching but we are entitled to our opinions and who knows maybe I'm wrong. Richlands may have Blacksburg's number. We'll see, either way, hope it's a good game , no injuries. No ill will taken or intended either.

I can't speak to their showing against GC, but they don't appear to have the talent this year that they've had the last several.

It might have a bit more to do with Richlands HC getting rid of the team's defensive coordinator of over two decades. When you're known for a consistently strong defense, you probably should leave it alone. That decision is catching up to them this year, just my opinion but my cousin is a former player and he said, worst decision ever.  I think Blues will have a hard time with Blacksburg.

Richlands Defense is going to have to tighten up on giving up 125 yds thru the air if they want to beat a good team like Union or Blacksburg

If only it had been 125 yards in the air against Union, giving up 290 yards on the ground I think the paper said, can't win games that way. Better tighten up a lot before Blacksburg. Got two weeks to get it together.

This week last year, GC was handled by Richlands and Abingdon beat down Battle. This year, both games were significantly closer. It would appear that Battle and GC have improved a lot. It also seems that Richlands and Abingdon aren't as explosive.

If GC avoids the turnovers they may eek out a victory. However, if frogs had wings...

    Abingdon 42
    GC 28

Richlands did not have a very good showing against GC even though Blues won. Too bad they dropped Abingdon from their schedule, last year's game was a good match up. Terrible rainy one but good game.

If both offensive and defensive lines are physical for Giles they stand a really good chance of winning. Bluefield exposed our weakness there.

Spot on, GMen need huge improvements on lines especially during big games, doesn't really matter when you play a weak team but fix it before the Giles, Richlands, etc. or it makes for a long night.

Gonna be a long season for the blues....no offence at all.....first time in forever that they cant do one or the other but they cant run or pass ....its sad..

A very long season if defense keeps giving up 290 yards & offense can't run or pass, get past Blacksburg, should have some easy wins maybe.

Union big. It's one of the worst Richlands teams I've seen this century. Not the same fundamentally sound Richlands I'm used to seeing. A huge drop off in athletes as well. GC hung with Richlands until the end and gave them plenty of fits, and GC is far from a powerhouse. Knowing what Union is returning, I expect a big win in Union's favor.

    Union 35

    Richlands 14

I think most of the former Blues players know what is missing factor is and why the team is not fundamentally sound as in the past. Mance shook up his coaching last year and it's catching up to him. Maybe he can turn it around before the season gets too far along but I'm not too hopeful but also hope I'm wrong.
