What credibility??? Like I said, just my opinion. Abingdon will replace Richlands as the region's dominant program.

The parents and administration made life a living hell for Darren Reed, and he is one of the top 3 coaches around, IMO.

My professional dealings have required interactions with school systems throughout the region on both sides of the border, and I'm here to say that from top to bottom, school systems are the most corrupt organizations at any level. The ONLY school system around that is somewhat ethical and puts the kids first is Kingsport City. If folks new where the money was going in your typical county school system they would lose their minds.

With few exceptions, show me a team with less than 10 seniors and I'll show you a team with a losing record. Championship level teams field about 20 kids in each class. The 2017 Devils have, what, 6 freshmen? That means, by 2020, GC will field a team that has 6 players that have played all 3 years prior to their senior year, and that's IF they stick around. I think we can safely assume the 2018 team is more likely to be winless than .500. There is a little hope for 2019 on the strength of a strong class of kids that performed well in middle school (Gibson, Calhoun, Salee, etc.). Follow that with the aforementioned 2020 class and you're talking about GC going something like 5 - 35 between 2017 & 2020 - & that's being optimistic about the 2019 team that will have to overcome Akers' incompetence. If Akers manned up, admitted the job was too big for him, and quit today GC football is still looking at an uphill climb for multiple years. That's not even addressing our AD doing everything possible to kick sand in the face of our feeder programs. All because Brent Roberts \ Bill Quillen have a grudge against Bill Houseright and didn't want Jeremy to have the job. I think it's time GC folks start confronting these two goons about these issues through the remainder of football season and basketball season.

I'd say Akers keeps the job as long as he wants it. No one in GC wants to put pressure on the SB or Superintendent to do the right thing. The level of corruption that the people will tolerate is precisely the level that they will receive.

As a pre-Akers GC fan, I offer the following: While Powell Valley was a better football program than GC, they (PV) faced MUCH softer competition in the playoffs. Ditto for Appalachia (though I don't think Appalachia was a better overall program than PV or GC).

GC had 24 players dressed out for practice today. Let that sink in. Prevailing trends within the program lead me to believe it could realistically be 2019 before GC gets back into the win column.

The fact that he happens to be African-American will prevent him from ever coaching at GC. They're not a very progressive school system, to put it mildly.

Didn't realize Lebanon was 2A. They're 1-5, so GC would be an underdog.

Off the top of my head, Central is the only 2A team around that GC has an even slight chance of beating and that is only because of their (Central) key injury. I challenge anyone to name 10 1A teams GC could beat. Rye Cove Twin Springs Tom Walker Eastside ? Burton ? Hurley ? Lebanon ?

For Real. Making your strength & conditioning program the cornerstone seems to be working. This is normally when I would take an opportunity to criticize Akers at GC for completely ignoring S&C, but I've jumped ship on them and don't need to bring it up anymore. Go Barcats.

I just brought it up in fun. I respect Coach Mance and RHS deeply. I have actually transferred as a fan to Va High. Gonna start bagging on Coach Crist any day now.

I don't like Richlands; they regularly beat the breaks off of us.
