That is an excellent point and would make a tremendous amount of football sense....unfortunately doesn't mean it will happen. Congrats to the Generals for breaking the GC streak last week, even it was a highly depleted Blue Devil team.

Only thing worse than Gate City's record this year is Lee's record against Gate City the last 18 years. Somebody going to get some relief tonight.......

Hmmm! Been carefully considering the GC football woes. I was thinking about making a post on another thread, Culture Change, but thought better of it. Then the light went off.....it's all connected. Mr. Grapeape, forgive me if your female, posted, "The first time I ever saw a topless female in person was on GC's game field. The situation occurred when a stripper was hired to give Bill Quillen a lap dance on his birthday. A young lady in a Playboy bunny costume gave Mr. Quillen a lap dance as he sat in a circle of GC's high school and middle school players \ coaches during a Tuesday afternoon practice. At the end of the routine she briefly exposed her breasts and motorboated Mr. Quillen. It was indescribably awesome." Now I know another forum poster likes to question factuality of Mr. Grapeapes post, so I'm going to ask first, do you have photographic evidence? If so, I would like to see it. Stripper at fb practice, what a recruitment tool and I assume this was an annual event. But anyway not only has the AD remained the same during GC football demise there is a direct correlation between the MousesEar going up in flames and the down turn in GC fball. You might want to consider having the AD do a requisition...Just sayn.......Problem Solved....No Charge!

Great City, I apologize for quoting you with my previous post You only offered your honest opinion of how the Blue Devils could have kept the game competitive. I was unable to make it to the game but know that the final score was 45-7.....so I thought to suggest that if GC would have continued to throw the ball it would have made a bit of difference was inaccurate......well my assessment could be false. The facts are GC is 0-6. They have scored a total of 48 points, given up 218, and been shut out twice, as per Maxpreps. The last five years, GC has went 29 and 35, inwhich 2014 they had a 11-3 season. The previous head coach walked away. The entire coaching staff, with the exception of Coach Akers, walked away after last year. I won't mention DBs QB being a GC kid or the other obvious GC athlete not playing football. I may be way out there but it appears obvious something is wrong. I hope you can accept my humble apology.

In my opinion if you get beat 45-7, I find it very hard to believe there was a whole lot a team could do to make the game more competative. Didn't RV score their first TD off a pick 6? I confess I wasn't there. So if I rubbed you the wrong way, my apologies, by all means carry on.

Lee has some talent, as evidenced in the Ridgeview game a few weeks ago. Talent isn't everything. Lee's coach gets his signature district win in a few weeks. Not this week. Union rolls big!

You Gate City folks are hilarious. I think your in denial right now. If they had kept passing they would have been in it to the end. You got beat 45-7.....45-7. Sounds like grapeape has some insight. Before this game I thought GC might finish 1-9, now I'm thinking Central game could go either way. Hilarious!!!!! Yeah, I think Coach Akers needs time, maybe 5 more years.

Great insight.... Just curious, question for you hard core southwest virgina football fans. When did the last state championship come home to far southwest? For some reason the game as completely changed in our area. Everybody seems to be running some form of spread offense, gotten away from beans and taters physical football. We don't have the skill talent to compete with eastern teams that simple. Compare Virgina football to SEC football. Coaching matters, for instance if UT had beaten Florida they would have given Jones a 5 year extension, not giving any thought that Florida is not a bery good football team.

Problems been brewing at GC for awhile now. GC faithful should have known when the entire coaching staff with the exception of Akers left after last year there was a big problem. Lack of talent is one thing but when kids start completely walking away from the program, you've got to wonder why? Coach Turner will not run the score up.

Lee definitely has the talent to go to Rosey Ridge and get a win. Even though Ridgeview has struggled the last few years, Coach Mullins has established himself as one of the best coaches in southwest virginia. Should be a good ball game.
