Yeah, have to remember that all 3 of Honaker's losses came to 2A teams. Ridgeview x2 and Marion.
Also have to remember the last game Honaker Played Ridgeview it was a close game And they played Marion at Marion about 10 days before Wise played Marion. They held Marion to 38 points and Wise gave up 55 points to Marion. So I’d bet it would be a good game between the 2 state champs.
Well my opinion on that is RV underestimated Honaker, and really thought they could contain McNulty and they didn’t. On top of that a lot went right for Honaker, and a very young team came away with an upset.
Honaker girls have been starting 5 freshmen lately.
This should be the Honaker girls weakest year out of the next 7. They have a group of 2024&2025’s that looks to be a stronger group than this years 2021’s.
What are you considering a bad loss? If it's Grundy, that's not a bad loss. Grundy was predicted to win the BDD in the preseason polls.
I watched that game. Honaker had a really bad shooting night. Played mostly Freshmen the majority of the game and was down two with 30 seconds left.
Grundy is a pretty good 1A team. They have atleast 9 kids that can play a little. Friday night they looked as good or maybe better than ES in my opinion.
I'm holding out a couple more games on union. They certainly look like they are getting strong though
by the end of this week things may turn upside down that's for sure
the homer in me was chomping at the bit to move honaker inside the top 10, but a bad loss prevented that. Strength of schedule for the tigers is not real good moving forward
I watched the Union ES game. Union still isn’t hitting on all cylinders, but they are gradually getting better as the year goes on.
Honakers youth showed during the Grundy game. They may still break into the top 10 before the year is over. Nomatter the future looks really good for your Honaker Team.
I only saw them once this year. I didn't think they were great that night. Nice win the other night though. If they keep that up I'm sure I will have to move them up in my rankings.
Which im sure they are concerned about my rankings lol.
I think it’s great someone is taking the time to look at the girls teams and rank them. Your rankings is probably better and most likely the most attention the girls will get, unlike the boys side.
If you divide it up 1a and 2a and have 2 lists of 10 we might get more people on here arguing and talking about it. LOL
I won't bury them now, they'd won 17 straight games and are the most consistent program in SWVA. But I do believe this team lacks the depth and talent of years past. They have one excellent scoring guard and a post player that is big and can dominate the glass but the scoring options are very limited.
Union is far from a pushover tho, despite their poor record the Lady Bears are capable of beating any team. Contrast with Wise, Union has several different scorers and ball handlers. They have a talented young forward that is long and athletic and several guards who can penetrate. I only saw one real shooter Friday but several girls that got to the basket. Turnovers are the only reason Central was in the game, Union would get a decent lead then turn it over multiple possessions.
I watched Union play a few times this year. They are very long and athletic. In my opinion they are similar to PM except Union is more athletic but does not play as good of a basketball game as PM. They have the ability on any given night to beat any of Champs top 10 teams. Just my opinion.
Is Central really that good guys? I watched them play v. Union and wasn't impressed in the slightest. They've got one shooter and a post player, and their offense is very hit or miss. Union was far from great, lots of turnovers, but still pulled out the W. I was told Wise was undefeated and had a shot to make a run but I don't see it. This Central team isn't nearly as good as some in years past IMO.
I have thought all year that Central is not near as strong as in past years. I’ve watched them play 3 games this year so far. They are very well coached and play fundamental basketball on both ends of the floor and usually don’t make near the number of mistakes their opponents make. So I guess that = a lot of wins.
Thought I would take in the varsity girls & boys action between Richlands and Graham. I must say the girls game was pitiful. I've known our girls aren't that good this season and figured Richlands would beat us. I cannot remember the last time we even beat them in girls' basketball much less beat them handily while playing lousy. It wasn't pretty but it was a win. I'll stick with my prediction Tazewell wins conference.
I also picked Tazewell to win at the start of the season. I personally would like to see them win. Although I’m changing my prediction to Lebanon as the SW district champs this year.
Yes Ridgeview game tonight is big for my rankings of them. So they better play hard lol.
Dont tell me the playoff format changed ? I just learned what was a new format to me a few weeks ago. Of course I was researching based off last year.
And yes I know which site your talking about. If it makes you feel any better I've lived in 3 states and everyone I know that follows sports hates the site. It is for sure inaccurate at times
The way I understand it each region is responsible for setting up their tournament.
In region D 1A this year the top 3 teams from each district will go to the regional tournament. Two of the 3 seeds will play each other and after that game it will be a basic 8 team bracket.
I think this year the BDD 1 will get the remaining 3 seed as their first game. And every year it will rotate from district to district.
Is Region C using the mercy rule like Region D is. I’m talking about single A, I was told 2A and up voted against the Mercy rule. Because 90+ points is a tremendous amount to score if the clock is running nonstop for the 3rd and 4th quarter. Unless they are pressing the whole game?????
Rye cove vs Eastside should be a good game once tourney time comes.
Next season is going to be a slugfest in the Cumberland. Rye cove, Eastside, and JIB all lose major contributors. Twin Springs and TW all retain their core and I've not seen CW yet.
CW Is down and out.
PM is probably Even with Central and Ridgeview. They are playing at a pretty high level for 1A.
Here is two more local "Mountain" teams you can research and see that they are better than pm, galax, and eastside.
Harlan Green Dragons (We will know just how good pineville is based on this matchup later in the season)
Pikeville Panthers (Lost to shelby valley by 2 (1a school))
To say they are 20 points might be a stretch, but to say they are noticeably better is a better way to put it.
Complete schedules are on the riherd site. Google it hit girls basketball and have fun, don't get lost like I usually do
I did a little research. Read a recent article and watched a few video clips. Also looked at some scores.
My conclusion is Pineville is probably at Galax or Eastside level maybe just a bit better. But not close to PM.
Harlan is a different story. They have like the 3rd or 4th ranked prospect in Kentucky. Then another girl ranked in the top 75. I’ll have to say they are probably head and shoulders better than any 1A school in va.
The article I read said that Pineville was the only school that had any chance at all to beat Harlan, and it wasn’t much of a chance at all.
Varsity girls starting line up is composed of 3 sophomores, and one freshman(a very good player) and can go 8 deep off the bench. We lose 3 seniors this year. One will be replaced by a JV player who is coming along and the other one will be up for grabs.
At the youth level, due to too many circumstances , Development should improve within 3 to 4 years. AAU teams are being created by the high school staff to lesson the load on those coaches and teach them our system. There is another varsity low coming in about 3 or 4 years but hopefully after that we should start having consistent JV and varsity level talent throughout the program instead of taking newcomers at the JV ranks.
So basically the high school and middle school staff are working as one and AAU interest is growing, I will know if the AAU is confirmed around the middle of January but all signs say yes.
Sounds like TW is trying to do the right stuff to build a winning program.
