  1. It would be easier to just stick with the teams that are on the map.
  2. I agree, very disturbing loss last night for Union. Also with Galax’s best two players out, that makes the Bland game an impressive win. Why not list your top ten, then list like 5 teams that are on the bubble. Like Eastside. Union. Maybe lebanon, Honaker, va high???
  3. Radford won state the last two years.
  4. I think you are pretty close with the right teams at this point of the season. Only change I would make is drop Galax and add Union. Galax beat Bland 34-31. Tazewell beat Bland by 32, Union beat Tazewell by 30+ twice already.
  5. Yes, I also think this is fun. It’s a challenge to see who knows the girls teams the best, and who is lucky enough to guess correctly. If Abingdon plays good team ball then I can’t see anyone in SWVA playing with them. They have experience, loads of talent, depth and size. From what I’ve seen from Galax they lack depth and consistency at this point in the season. They did lose to GW by 20. I don’t think Eastside will lose to them next time they play Eastside did beat Union. Although ES shot like 30+ more free throws than Union. 3 starters from Union fouled out and ES won by like 5. They play again in a couple weeks. I’d have to bet Union wins by +10. I agree It is possible for Honaker to upset ES. This is PM’s year, if they don’t win this year, there will be a lot of very disappointed PM fans, Just like all the GW fans from last year.
  6. I would have to think Abingdon would be #1 hands down. Then 2-4 would be between Central, Ridgeview and Union. 5. PM. 6. Eastside. And at this point in the year that’s about as far as I can go.
  7. Evidently they did, since ES shot 47 foul shots.
  8. Impressive win for ES. Seems like this would be a hard game to use to judge either team. 47 foul shot attempts to Unions 15. Sounds like a referee controlled game. It’ll be interesting to see the outcome of their next game.
  9. I remember the good Honaker girl that played around 2000ish. In my opinion she was a better ball player than what I saw on PM ‘s team last year. But that is a hard comparison to make. I don’t think Floyd is even close to Central, Ridgeview, Abingdon or Union. But I could be wrong. I’ve not seen Floyd play, I’m just going off of what I’ve heard.
  10. To start with I will say, yes girls basketball has changed a lot in the last 15-20 years. I know PM is pretty good but I would have to think they would have a hard time beating any of the top 4 Mt. 7 teams. I would feel really confident in saying any of the local small colleges would completely demolish them in a game. Im curious: what was your daughters name that played for Honaker?
  11. I might have to start doubting you. I’ve seen two tweets that say GW 54 Galax 32????
  12. I’m interested in hearing your comparison of PM and Galax!!
  13. I did talk to some people that watched the game. I was told Tazewell stayed in their press too long. They got down and panicked and the wheels fell off. I still think Tazewell has a good chance to win the Southwest although they have a long way to go before they can play with the top teams in the Mt. 7.
  14. That was a really good breakdown of the teams/girls. I can only make one correction. All the girls that traveled throughout the summer, played Showcase ball, not AAU. After about 7th grade AAU ball becomes really weak and most of the better girls moves up to the Showcase circuit.
  15. Girls: If Abingdon plays to their potential then I would give them the nod for #1. I think it will be a tight race for 2nd between Central, Ridgeview and Union. Gate City and John Battle are very capable of pulling off some upset games. I have no idea about Lee???
  16. I should have Said their has been a lot of good 1A and 2A teams from SWVA. And SWVA will continue to produce good teams over the next 5-6 years. They may not be All from the same schools either. I cannot argue with the statement that outside of C40, it would be hard to find 5-6 good teams.
  17. Is it not like that everywhere? To a certain extent. There are very few high school programs that can be dominate year after year. And the smaller the school the harder it is to establish a legacy like Central has.
  18. I do see what your saying. And to a degree you are correct. For the last 4 years 1A and 2A has been dominated by west schools. 2017 PM vs GW 2016 Northwood vs Appomattox 2015 Clintwood Vs Twin Valley 2014 Chilhowie vs Honaker So in the last 4 years only one eastern team was good enough to get to the final game.
  19. There is a lot of good basketball in single A and AA. I’m pretty sure in the last 4 years Honaker has made it to the championship game once and Final 4 twice.
  20. Uhm well, I just might have to agree with you on that one. I don’t think anyone can argue that this is PM’s year. Hands down favorite. I’m just stating that any team can have a really bad game at the worst possible time. And from what I hear that’s what happened to wythe last year. But I didn’t see that final game so that’s just heresay.
  21. A more accurate statement would be. "No one else in SWVA should be able to play with them." This is girls basketball we are talking about, Anything is possible!!
  22. Parry McCluer EastSide Galax Honaker Im guessing those 4 have a good shot of making it to the final 8. But there are a few other teams out there that could knock some of them out. Patrick Henry rye cove Grundy Chilhowie Narrows Wythe its just a wait and see game now.
  23. It was a good win for the Tigers last night. Wythe did lose 7 or 8 seniors from last years team. Although wythe has a very talented young team. Honaker is an even younger team than Wythe with 6 out of nine players 9th graders. I agree that this one win doesn’t make them a shoe in for state. I think with their talent level they may shock some teams come February.
