  1. No one said the game wouldn’t be tight-you are railing against a windmill that doesn’t exist. What I said is that it is legitimate to favor Radford to come out of a tight game because of their experience and Cormany’s numerous appearances. You put up Council as an example of Cormany failure, but there’s no shame in losing to a team with a 1,000 point scoring D1 player-especially one that played a great zone (which is tough to play against anyway much less on a short turnaround). But slight favorites don’t always win, and in a tight game Union could come out on top just as easily.
  2. I would consider Bunch and Cusano to be a lot better than average players. Rasnick is a really really good high school player. I do think the coaching matchup/game within the game is a legit concern for Union fans. It’s meaningless once the ball is tipped, as coaches from Mercer and Lehigh once took down Coach K...but you’d feel a lot better about Coach K on paper beforehand. Same deal with Cormany.
  3. Burton will play either Parry McClure or Narrows
  4. The top of the M7 is definitely much better than the top of the SWD, but I think the reality is that outside of Union, Graham, GC (and Abingdon I guess but they are 3A) the rest of Region 2D is all just mediocre. Richlands spanked Battle and I’m pretty sure that 2-6 in the SWD and 4-7 in the M7 would all just beat up on each other given the night. I do think Ridgeview is clearly the next best team, but the way that Marion hung in with them tells me that they would probably drop a game somewhere.
  5. Graham most certainly did not attempt more shots. GC had several possessions with 3-4 shots due to offensive rebounds.
  6. I think the Reed kid, while not a true basketball player, is about as good an athlete as any kid in the area
  7. Tazewell at Lebanon tonight I can’t figure Lebanon out-they win at Tazewell and at Richlands but lose to winless Marion and winless Va High. Got killed by Graham once but played them tough second time. Needed a fluke to beat Honaker. I guess everyone is just bad this year-other than Union of course haha
  8. Richlands has had some injuries this year
  9. Lol Graham fans are almost as sensitive as Gate City fans (who might make a sudden reappearance now that the Devils have righted the ship) Union also only lost by 9-which would be important to some of you gamblers out there. After watching last night I’m even more confident in my thought that Union/Abingdon are head and shoulders above anything else in SWVA.
  10. Obviously I wouldn’t gamble with that line...and I’m not even knocking Graham...they are the third best team Ive seen after Union and Abingdon. I just think those two teams are head and shoulders above Graham because of their size and multiple scorers.
  11. I reiterate-Union 20 points better than Graham
  12. Tazewell with another nice win last night
  13. Twin Springs looked rough coming off of quarantine last night-health and luck probably going to be the biggest factor for teams this year
  14. Lebanon has had some severe Covid issues from what I’ve heard
  15. Graham is going to struggle to score against good defensive teams-they don’t have 3-4 scorers like they have had in the past. Graves is a handful but outside of him no one is consistently getting 15 a night. Union has 4 legit scorers, and a ton of size. They didn’t just beat Gate City, they dismantled them. GC doesn’t have the scorers they have had, but athletically they are probably better overall than Graham and it was just a total mismatch. I’m not sure anyone in SWVA is beating Union this year-just too much talent and length.
  16. I’ve watched them both. Union has tons of quality size-their length would be way too much for the G-Men
  17. It will be interesting to see what Graham has. They lost quite a bit but bring back their best player.
  18. The Cumberland should be interesting. Burton has two dynamic guards, Eastside is gonna Eastside until further notice, Twin Springs has high expectations, Rye Cove returns virtually everyone including the big kid.
  19. Chuckey Doak cancelling two games due to Covid Seems like its six in one hand and half a dozen in the other as far as playing in the spring, but VHSL really needs to extend the seasons because compressing them only puts more games at risk with the seemingly inevitable outbreaks
  20. Well if Mt. Rogers district includes Russell and Tazewell Co then you got some bad info because there have been more cases than that.
  21. Sometimes it is harder to replace complimentary players than studs, but indeed you need both to win
  22. Grundy lost a lot but probably have the best player in SWVA back. TS should be really good-most of what they lost were complimentary players. They return the heavy lifters and will be a force for the next few seasons. Honaker has a good young group coming.
