Lebanon should be in 1A. Tazewell is just now beginning to get out of a nearly decade long rebuild, Richlands is entering their down period which barring more WV miracles could be the new normal. Marion is good once a decade and VA High is two-three years from being good again. Mostly just bad luck. At least Graham is a consistent contender, replacing the Blues.
Lebanon should definitely be 1A. We have 8th grade in high school that is counted as part of the enrollment. Essentially Lebanon has about 500 students grades 9-12. In most sports we are competitive at the 2A level, but with football its another story. Lebanon is going to come around in the next year or so. We currently have 19 freshman and they recently expanded thr local youth league. I Feel like the youth league has been the major problem it just wasn't strong enough to appropriately feed the high school at the level it needed to.
Where are the wins coming from? Aside from Eastside and Castlewood, there aren’t any good chances...
Have you watched Virginia High ? They are going to struggle to win games period. I've watched them in all 3 games. I mean they lost to Battle who also lost the Holston, that rarely happens.
Wow I'm thinking 2 wins will be lucky with that type of play for the Pioneers. Poor tackling comes down to bad fundamentals and poor coaching over time. Until they fix that they won't win more than 2 games and deserably so. Keep playing like that and they might even lose to Castlewood for the first time in 30 years. I'm not going to favor them again until they prove they can win. I'm just being realistic.
Lebanon won’t beat castlewood. If honaker can’t beat them, I highly doubt
So just because one team beats a team, they can't lose to another team that lost to the team they beat ???? So matchups dont matter? I don't agree. There are too many variables that can dictate what happens. I seriously doubt Castlewood would have beat Honaker had their starting QB not tore his ACL. Let's not act like Castlewood is all the sudden a world beater. I still say I will believe they will beat Lebanon when they prove it, and they haven't in over 30 years.
Castlewood is within reach, but the Blue Devils will be the favorites against the Pioneers
Castlewood hasn't beaten a lebanon team (even the bad ones in over 30 years) What Castlewood did to Honaker was the result of Honaker not having their starting QB and to be totally honest it was a fluke. They could play 10 times and Honaker would win 8 or 9.
Castlewood will be favored against Lebanon when they prove they can beat them, which like I said hasn't happened in a long time.
I don't care If Lebanon lost to Honaker and Castlewood beat them...football is about matchups. Castlewood might match up well against Honaker and then struggle against Lebanon. I would argue that Lebanon might beat Honaker if they played again, the first game was close and lebanon had their opportunities to score on 2 or 3 occasions and didn't.
Grundy, Eastside and Marion are the most likely, VA High is within reach.
When I saw Lebanon play I thought "they may win a few games, theyre not bad" but then I looked at their schedule. Imo they would be lucky to go 2-2 out of those 4 teams that I listed
You forgot Castlewood, that should be another win.
I've watched Virginia High twice they are bad this year.
I'd love nothing more for Lebanon to get a win here, but I just don't see it happening after what I saw Thursday night.
They ran into a Central team that should win 6 or 7 games. Central is easily one of the fastest teams in the area this season. This is probably the best team to come out of wise since J J Kelly closed its doors. My guess its this fastest team from Wise since the fast 2001 JJ Kelly team featuring 3 to 4 fast backs that also ran the wing t, and averaged as around 40 a game and won 7games. In many ways this Central team mirrors that Kelly team, with small lines with an abundance of speedsters. Grundy is nowhere near that level this season. They struggled to beat riverview. I expect lebanon to be a surprise Friday night, I also expect them to follow it up with a win against Eastside. Lebanon is a better team than they are getting credit for. They will finish with 4 wins at least when it's all said and done.
Tazewell did have around 200 yards on the ground last night. Which is a bright spot but they were not ready to play. Especially on defense. Their defensive backs were supposed to be their strong point but they missed assignments all night. Mount View has enough speed to give Tazewell problems but their defense is pretty bad too. Tazewell has a pretty weak schedule the rest of the way other than Beaver and Richlands . Barring any injuries, 7-3 is doable. And considering that Marion, Va High, and Lebanon might finish 2-8,1-9 and 0-10, they’re a lock for 3rd place in a pitiful SWD
Lebanon will finish better than 2-8 I guarantee it.
This isn't really about my team but I am going to say Central wins 6 or 7. I'm also going to say they upset either Ridgeview or Union.
I also still say Lebanon will win 4 games. The three Russell county schools will end the season against each other splitting games against each other, which will create a tie for the Russell County Championship haha.
I thought they where even the Pioneers looked small, but it is TV and that can make things look differently as well. When will the Warriors have their first true test of the season ? might be interested in watching !!!!
Just from what I seen on the News Highlights from last night both teams seem to be small on the line, How do you feel they will be able to do against a team that will be bigger up front and a more physical type team?
I think Central will struggle with physicality but they might give teams fits with their speed.
Maybe's are Virginia High, Marion and Eastside, but I'm leaning doubtful on all three of those based on what I saw last night.
We also play Grundy next Friday which could be a win. From what I've seen of Va High I'd lean more towards a win, they were really bad, but we will see. Central will put up as much as they want against them too.
Why has the SWD struggled in football?
