This entire incident could have been avoided if the VHS coach wouldn't have ran to home like a crazy person. His runner was clearly out and he (the coach) should have been immediately ejected for his actions.
If it’s his son and the kid threw his helmet down, then I’m sitting out the crucify him mentality . If it’s not his kid then that changes the dynamics of the situation considerably.
Whether it's his son or not doesn't change anything. In this situation they are coach-player, not coach-son or father-son.
I went back and watched it on NFHS. Looks like it started with the player being a sore loser by slamming his helmet down and looks like he said something then Gobble got involved. Again....no excuse for an adult to put their hands on a student-athlete.
Do any of our local officials ever get to work the state championship games? I haven't recognized a single official yet. I know we all like to complain about them but I would be that ours down in this part of the state are just as good as the ones out east.
All the VHSL cares about is the eastern side of the state, much like government. That's why they changed the bracket setup in 1A-3A so that region C and D can no longer meet up in the state finals. They did not like it on the girls side when C\D were continuously dominating.
Could you all imagine if a school tried to do this on our end of the state?? NO WAY the VHSL would let them play!!!
Guys I think what yall are saying is spot on about JM, but..............you don't get to start complaining now AFTER THE FACT. The time for that from a VH perspective or any other Class 2 perspective is Before the game, and of course many on here including myself did exactly that. We talked about the unfairness BEFORE the game was played.,BUT..........once you play the game and you submit to the system and become a mutual party to the unfairness, you can no longer complain about the unfairness (in my opinion) it's a bad take.
I stand by my statement a week ago. VH should not have played the game. Complaining about it now, after the game has been played is way too little, way too late. From any other team in Class 2s perspective, if you continue to play them, then you make your choice. We all have free will. When we make a choice to play, live by those consequences without complaint. Same thing goes for any team that would refuse to play them, live by those consequences.
I'll complain before, during and after if I so choose......
Kudos to the Va High kids for not backing down. Listening to these announcers try to validate what JM is doing is sickening. They, and the VHSL, should be ashamed of themselves for doing what they're doing. That wasn't a true 2A championship game that was just played.
I don't think VH and Graham are on NFHS. I looked for it and there's no listing of this game as of this AM at 0745. John Marshall is on NFHS, but instead of listed as playing Bruton, they are listed as playing Burton.......as in....John I Burton. JI Burton is going to have a tough matchup tonight. I pick Burton to win.
If you search "VHSL" it shows the game and all of the other playoff games.
I think last night's games proved who the M7 POY should be. Gunner Garrett showed up big time when his team needed him and finished with 33 points. I watched the entire Central-Graham game and Collins was an absolute non-factor; didn't score his first points until the end of the 2nd quarter and was a liability on defense. Horne carried the Warriors with 25 points. Next year will be interesting on the hill when the Hayes kid is added to the mix. The combo of him and Horne might be the best duo we've seen in our area in a few years.
In the M7, it should be Ethan Collins. He's the better overall player. He finished the last two years above Garrett for POY. Garrett will probably get it because he is a senior, which is wrong. SWD, in my opinion, it comes down between 2 players. Reece from Lebanon and Mozell from Va High. Arguments can be made for each.
Garrett will get POY because GC finished ahead of Central and he is a senior. That's not to say that Garrett isn't the better player anyways.
Also saw that. Didn’t trip anyone. I think it was a flop but I also think there was enough contact for there to be an offensive foul called. Also didn’t have anything to do with the guy sliding and rolling on the floor. 2 out of the 3 refs were also the crew that also had a horrible non walk call during the Leb and Union game when Anderson took 8 steps with the ball when there was 8 seconds left. A game which Lebanon lost by one
Not sure what you were looking at, but there is clearly a flop by Horne and his foot trips McMurray. That in itself should have been a foul. Btw I don’t have a horse in the race.
Once had official visits to Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee among others... now relinquished to an NAIA school. Glad he's getting a chance somewhere, but so much potential wasted is a shame.
And people still wonder why kids from our area aren't recruited.....
