If it was based on participation, they would probably be 3A-4a. Seems that every male from 9-12 grades suit up for them!
Looks like Riverheads may be headed back to 1A after this cycle ? Enrollment numbers are way down and Football squad numbers are on the rise . Everyone should be happy !
They have had 2a numbers for the past 10 years this is not shocking they are competitive in the 2a playoffs. It's extremely sad they petitioned to play down.
Its not just Football . Riverheads will struggle in all the other sports . The football program is special , that is where the conversation ends . JMO
They certainly had an impressive win but that’s mighty big talk when we practically have 1/2 a regular season to go! I’m not saying they don’t win it all but there’s a lot of quality teams to plow through before that happens! I don’t know of any 2D team that will roll over or any 2C for that matter.
It's a long season and I know everything has to go your way . Stay healthy , have weather that works against your opponent , and zebras that don't wear glasses. If you get that and a little luck in the playoffs you may have a chance to raise the trophy . That being said , should be a heck of a post season . As long as all the kids stay healthy I don't care who wins , but I do bleed RED . I'm not to fond of CROW . lol
Yeah he did, except for the drive that Riverheads needed to ice the clock and the last drive on defense. Riverheads is leading when he gets hurt and they lose when he goes out. So he did not play the two most important drives of the game.
The young guys on the RED TEAM are growing up fast ! With CCC out it forced them to carry the load and now it the rewards are coming . IF THEY STAY HEALTHY ? , look for them in Salem . Impressive job by the coaches and players ! Look out SWVA there is a new kid on Block 2A CHAMP STREET .
For a minute you guys had me thinking I was talking about a different game. But I went back and looked and last year’s final between Ridgeview and Graham was Graham 56 Ridgeview 35. As I said earlier, with a healthy Cook-Cash there is no reason to believe Riverheads wouldn’t do the same thing to Ridgeview if Ridgeview shows up with the same defense they brought to Mitchell Stadium. Not disagreeing that Ridgeview might throw for 5 touchdowns in the game. But predicting Riverheads final score against that Ridgeview defense is pretty easy, number of offensive possessions x 7.
Lets see how tonight's games end up ? We may have a different outlook on the season . New kids , new season , and some new coaches . should be fun !
I agree that Riverheads if healthy should be one the last four standing . Coaching could be the main factor in how they do vs 2A playoff teams . If they make the playoffs ?
Draft looks to be a shell of their previous teams . The RED TEAM needs to stay healthy ! If any team has a chance to give Riverheads a LOSS, the earlier in the season the better chance they have. Once well oiled they are hard to handle .
Riverheads by 4 scores ! Triple C stays healthy? , After they beat Central Woodstock ? They could win out . JMO , but I have watched them the past 28 years and this bunch looks really good . CCC is only the 2nd D1 player to play for the Gladiators . Big Mike play 4 years at Pittsburg as a lineman . The Dogs will move the ball in the air but and you know what they say, When you pass the ball 3 things can happen and 2 of them are bad. Best of luck to both teams !
You are correct . Once UVA offers him all others will also . Remember he is a Jr. I would love to see him play at VT , but he needs to go where the $ is . JMO
20 is not his brother . He has a broken thumb suffered a couple games ago . CCC will have to miss wrestling but will be back for football next season .
Cook Cash is the best player Riverheads has had at least going back to the 70s . Riverheads did not play that well and still dominated . He has been playing maybe @ 75 % for most of the season . After the LB game he played sparingly on one side of the ball . He was on D in the playoffs only part time . When he returns this fall the 2A teams will get a taste of what this young man can do . His talent has yet to shine . He will be something to watch when he plays at the next level . jmo
