I miss not getting to see the seniors get there last year of spring sports, mainly my grandson play his last year., he is lucky to have already signed with a college while others needed this last year to get schools to take a look at them.
Just saw on the VHSL site that they just cancelled the spring sports in Va. its just a shame. I do think the gov. has over stepped again, another 2 week delay would not have hurt.
I hope all these young men an women get to finish out their senior year that they have worked so hard for. I know my grandson is very down about this year an now this on top of it all, an I am sure the rest of these kids feel the same. There is teams out there that feel like this is there year an might not never know if it could have been. I do pray that these kids an the rest of us survive this virus and I get to watch these kids play out their last year in High School.
Maybe they will let the teams go ahead an play even if schools do close, they could have someone check temps before games an practice, if you go to a game wear a mask. Anything to let these seniors finish their HS years.
From what I'm hearing, most of the schools have shut down their athletic facilities and told teams "No practice by HS teams or no use by outside groups on school facilities"
Now I can see if the team was practicing together they could have to forfeit, But I don't see how they can stop kids from doing individual workouts. I know kids right now that have been working out on their own since Friday. My son has been doing the Driveline Throwing program at home to keep his arm in shape for this season if and when they are able to start the season.
I also thought the same which was why i asked him because I figured a bunch would be getting together. I dont see if the boys were not sick why the team could not still hold practice.
grandson said coach told them they were not under no circumstances to practice as a team, I wonder how many teams will follow this rule that VHSL has set?
I thought the Bowman kid committed to Milligan College for baseball and not Bluefield,
was brain fade is only defence I have, crap I knew Garrett signed to play for Milligan an remember writing it then thinking I need to correct that an didn't.
IMO Polier could have absolutely played at a FCS school but FBS is a stretch. Probably could have been a preferred walk on at a big time D1 school.
He is a VERY GOOD football player. I watched him at the all star game at UVA-W, he was solid but didnt stick out and there were a couple of players there who absolutely stuck out.
Idk if he had offers from FCS schools or not. Hes definitely got the work ethic and frame to have a shot at big time ball as a upperclassman after redshirting, probably the same story if he would have went to a FCS school. Is that really a better option than going to UVA-W and starting right away?
He went to a lot of camps, and everyone who watched Adkins saw Polier. I dont think he was missed by anyone, underestimated maybe but not missed. He doesnt have a great 40 time (4.68 is what I saw) and his measurable strength isnt great. watching the kid play football and wrestle I can tell you hes a lot stronger than what his bench is (315).
If he sticks with it he could have a fantastic career at UVA-W and get a solid education.
All of that being said, Im definitely not a college recruiting guru and ive been wrong before.
He is very good I watched him in several games in person an on the TV a couple of times, I think I remember hearing Mason did have FBS offers. The way the transfer portal works Mason could go to a good D2, probably see instant playing time an play a couple of years then hit the portal an go to a bigger school. Also the young man may not have wanted to be not far from home for what ever reason in any case its not because he isn't good enough.
Is the talent level of a D1 that much more than a D2, maybe the Big D1s are a bit faster but talent is what I am asking? I think most of these kids are so used to playing that the thought of red shirting or sitting a bench for a couple of years is more than they an stand. If they can go to D2 or D3 an see instant playing time plus a education then that is the important thing isn't it.
Very glad to see these local young men an women advancing their education thru sports, as parents an grandparents we all know how hard they have worked an gave up to be able to do this. So each an everyone I say congrads to you an hope you do well in your sport.
Battle will not go easy into the night, because they are gritty bunch. I still cant help but wonder if they had not had the season ending injuries to a few key players an another couple that just did not want to play any more just where they might be in the standings right now. I am glad for Central an Gate City this year an felt bad for Lee but feel much worse for my grandson #20, who had a season ending knee injury the 3rd game but still goes to the games an stands on the sidelines with the team an wishes he was playing. He is part of the heart of that Battle team so dont take them lightly Union or they might just replace Marion as that #8 team in the playoffs.
