  1. Yeah I was thinking that. I recall it was Graham and Richlands who would run the show at some competitions around. Graham may not have been quite as good as Richlands most of the time but they were still pretty damn good. Richlands was usually louder than Graham anyway. I was a bandy back in the day. Wanted to teach it. Now I teach Special Education in NE Tennessee. Love it.
  2. Oh I could tell stories about different fan bases. Gate City-Historically, among the worst fans in SWVA. You had grown men and women mouthing off to kids on the opposing team. You’d have some fans kicking the drum major’s podium to make her fall. You’d have students throwing objects at opposing fans in the visitor section. In 2002 or 2003 I was talking to friends from Gate City and was threatened bodily harm because I was from Powell Valley. Come to find out that the majority of Gate City fans on here act like they have a lick of sense. Breathitt County KY-In 2003, PV football and band buses vandalized. Death threats to a freshman PV band member. JJ Kelly-The cockiness of the fans was on another level. They are the only fanbase I have ever seen making a t shirt for winning a game. I remember back in 1999, when they pulled off the biggest upset in 30 years vs. PV. It snapped a fairly lengthy winning streak for PV’s program, so emotions were obviously running high. But when a pickup truck full of Kelly fans throws a rake at high school football players then that’s ridiculous. Another incident was when I was 9 or 10 years old. Back in like 1997. PV was at Kelly. Beat the stuffing out of Kelly too. PV mascot Dennis Durham had gotten killed in a car wreck (I think it was a wreck) before the season. A memorial wreath for Dennis was on the sidelines for PV every game. Some girl from Kelly grabbed it off the sideline, ran with it, and ripped it up. Central-The arrogance is about as bad as JJ Kelly. Their football program just started getting good. The arrogance started getting even more off the charts. The fan base is obnoxious.
  3. I remember 15-20 years ago they had 100-115 and they WERE loud.
  4. Union was sloppy in the first half. But took care of business in the second half.
  5. Whoever scores the most points at the end of the game. It could be Union. It could be Graham. I really don’t know.
  6. Mountain Lake Dirty Dancers. Fight song? I’ve Had the Time of my Life.
  7. The result will be decided in 2nd quarter.
  8. The adults in Wise County were a bunch of babies. It was mostly around Appalachia. They didn’t want to go to school “with no Vikings!” But things eventually calmed down. Once people realized it was happening whether they liked it or not. A few parents sent their kids to Norton because they didn’t want their kids to go to school with Powell Valley people. More power to them I suppose? Consolidation isn’t ideal. But more often than not it’s for the best. It was for the best in Wise County. It’s for the best in Giles County.
  9. Worst Richlands team I have seen in a long time. Up there with the 99 Richlands team that went 2-8.
  10. I’ll say this and be done. It sounds like Vaught knew what he was doing. Interpret that as you wish. But that’s just how I see it with the information I have been given. It’s a shame that that’s what will be talked about regarding the team but that’s the legacy. Richlands won 17-7. Not exactly a blowout, not exactly close. But a play or two from being a totally different conversation. Take this with a grain of salt but when I lived in and around Roanoke from 2017-2021, I asked some Salem people about it. Most of them shrugged it off and said “Oh well.” So that tells me most Salem people aren’t all that concerned about it. Why should they be? They avenged that loss in 2004. They have won a total of 10 championships. I have only seen one fanbase get mad over it and it’s been the Richlands group. Some people need to learn to handle criticism of their teams and not get their panties in a wad over it. It’s just a game. Anyway, Go Bears!
  11. Way I see it if it didn’t make a difference then why do it? If you’re not trying to gain an unfair advantage, why do it? That was a great team but now they have that black mark on their record. The championship will always be tainted by that decision. But something more current, Union 28, Richlands 13.
  12. Phoebus does have a beach a few blocks away. Buckroe Beach. Kind like where the Chesapeake Bay, Hampton Roadstead (aka Roads), and Atlantic Ocean meet just north of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. To be honest I would avoid the Phoebus area and Buckroe Beach for the crime.
  13. If they do then they do. This is more wishful thinking than it is a prediction. I guess we should take the word of a guy who claimed Central was a football school.
  14. Well considering they have about 5 girls basketball state championships, calling them a girls basketball school isn’t far off. Considering their 53-63 program record in football, it’s safe to say they’re not a football school .
  15. Wise is a situation you’ll avoid if you’re wise.
  16. I would rather lose fair and square than lose with home cooking. Home cooking is what you get when you are a Virginia team playing in Kentucky. I remember the PV/Breathitt County games. Who can forget the Union at Middlesboro debacle in 2013? Ridiculous.
  17. Personally I am done with Kentucky teams. If you’re going to play out of state, play Tennessee teams. Decent ones. Ones that we could beat at least 5/10 times. Don’t want D-B, Science Hill, or West Ridge. I wouldn’t do Elizabethton either. Just keep them as a scrimmage Cherokee on a good season would be good. Thing is Cherokee has been horrible the last few years. Volunteer we would win 8-9/10. We would beat Cocke County 10/10 times. They’re awful. Greeneville would slaughter us 9/10 times. Tennessee High would be back and forth. We had a couple of thrillers against Morristown-West. PV used to play Seymour, which is in Sevier County. That series kind of reeked. If we wanted a Battle of the Bears then why not play Sevier County? Lol Didn’t we almost play Science Hill.
  18. Was it not good? I mean, Nick Saban coached at Michigan State 10 years before he coached at Bama and MSU was mostly middle of the road at that time. Look at him now. And as a Tennessee fan I can’t stand the man. Belichick coached the Browns in the early 90s and the Browns didn’t do that good.
  19. Hence: very possible. My post was pointing out the hilarious irony of a Riverheads fan calling 2A soft.
  20. Who cares what Giles begged and cried for? Who cares what Riverheads asked for? Riverheads conveniently lost numbers when they were redistricting. You made THIS post. You were calling 1A and 2A soft. Then, I pointed out the fact that Riverheads couldn’t win state in 2A when they competed as a 2A school, which is probably where they should be right now anyway. Would they win 2A right now? Very possible. But that’s not the point.
  21. Yet Riverheads failed to win state in 2A when they were 2A.
  22. Wise fielded decent teams. But since the 80s, good or great seasons were few and far between. They’d have a 2 or 3 year cycle of decent seasons and then fall back down.
  23. I didn’t realize a successor had to meet his predecessor. Wheeler got ripped off.
  24. I would imagine that most are essentially the same, just home and away switched.
