  1. Supposed to rain after kickoff. That may affect the passing game for both teams and will probably result in some fumbles. The Generals have the better back in Huff as far as I know of, but the Eagles have the option of running their QB as well. I don’t know what Rye coves line play consists of but I know Lee’s is relatively undersized and have struggled to create lanes at times against good D-Lines like RV and Union. I’m hoping the Generals will get out to a decent early lead and get the chance to open up their playbook so they can work on some things. Lee 48 Eagles 14

  2. No chance TW stays close after the first Q. This’ll be a tune up game for Union. Hopefully they can iron some kinks out before they have to face better competition. I don’t think the Pioneers have any ability to slow down Unions run game. They may score once or twice but they won’t have any sustained drives. Bears win 54-6

We’re you at the game?  I fully expected Lee to pass much more than they did.  With the exception of the long run by Huff, RV did pretty good job of stopping the run.  Also, I was surprised they Lee doesn’t run their QB more.  If he a pretty good runner?

Yeah I was there. We didn’t open up our playbook very much other than that little trick play in the first quarter that the wide open receiver dropped. The offense was too predictable. Run the first 2 downs for hardly any gain and be forced to throw on 3rd and long. Our freshman safety got picked on big time last night. As a whole our pass defense was bad. Though it should’ve been closer to 54-14 I think if a few plays went different it could’ve been 33-21 which looks a lot closer on paper. I just don’t know if Lee has what it takes to win big games yet, they don’t play up to their ability when under pressure like last night.

  4. I’m excited for this one tonight. First home game of the season for the Generals, should be a packed house. Not gonna be a fun game to watch for fans of defense, I say 10+ TDs are scored between both teams. I’d love for this one to be a nail-biter and a final possession type game. It’s been a long time since there’s been an exciting game at 5 Star. Go Generals!

It will be an interesting matchup because it is two passing attacks going at each other.  You rarely see that in SWVA.  Ridgeview has athletes on defense that can turn you over but they’ve been known to run that soft shell defense with the corners (I call it the soggy toast coverage).  I think Lee would love to see that.
On the other hand, RV rolls out potentially the best WR crew in all of 2A and would give 3A a run for their money.  How is your pass defense?  They should be okay seeing how they have to defend it in practice so much. What I think will stress the Lee defense is defending O’Quinn as a runner.  He can run physically and scramble and can be tough for DBs to bring down (6’2”, 200lb)

We haven’t really played anyone that can pass the ball. We picked off PH one of the few times they threw and the tall McCoy kid from Eastside had 2 or 3 short catches underneath. Union hit 1 deep ball on us that should’ve been knocked down when the backup Qb went in. It had the air under it but was wobbly as can be. If Ridgeview plays soft coverage that may favor us. We don’t throw deep too often, mostly shallow and mid crossing routes. We’ve done pretty good getting hats to the football after the catch.

How does Lee’s offense look?  Are they still throwing the ball pretty frequently?

The offense looks much more comfortable than in week 1, it’s about 50/50 run pass. They moved the ball well running inside, Huff is a tank coming out of the backfield. The passing attack is our most dangerous weapon tho. #21 Hammonds is a stud athlete and #4 Early is a freshman who has made a lot of big plays this year and been one of the main targets on offense. Lee hardly had any negative yardage against PH, and what they did have came from penalties if I remember right. They’re in for a TOUGH test Friday night but I think they’re prepared to bring it and hang with Ridgeview.

Lee high may not be as bad as some are thinking. Didn’t they play with Union for a while before the Bears blew it open?

Im bias but I think they’re being undersold. No doubt Union is the better team but it should have been closer than the final score turned out to be. I think it was a combination of it being the first game of the season, playing at Bullitt Park, and the intimidation factor that Union just carries with them. If they see each other again in the playoffs it’ll be a much more even ball game.

Ridgeview comes to 5 Star Stadium Friday and I think the Generals may hang a bit closer than some expect. They got pressure in the backfield pretty well against PH’s big line, I hope they can recreate that this week and contain O’Quinn so he doesn’t have time to throw or scramble all night. We cover the pass pretty well but we haven’t really played receivers of this caliber. I remember when Lee played at Ridgeview when Beavers was a freshman, he was being guarded hip-to-hip by our best corner and was still making easy catches. I think he had 2 or 3 TDs, and this is when they had Adkins running all over everyone. They’d be state champs 2x over if he was in this years senior class.

  8. Tough road test for the Generals, gonna be a close. Maybe tied at the end of first half but whoever carries momentum into the second will pull away at the end. I think Lee will chew them up in space with the pass game. Hopefully our defense has took the time to work on stopping the run during the bye week or else it might be a long night of the Rebels chewing up the clock. 35-21 Generals!

  9. Union’s backfield can’t get enough praise this year. They’re always solid but they’re a lot better than I expected them to be. The freshman Chandler can block and run the rock. Satterfield and Honeycutt are both hard nosed and get downhill quick. I’d hate to be opposing defensive back having to meet them for a solo tackle! They’ve got some decent depth too, that Lowery boy who scored against Burton has some speed. I only hate the Bears when I play against them, otherwise the folks of Big Stone are good people. I played across from Lomax since middle school when he was on the line, tied with him in a 100m dash back then too lol. Funny guy and a hell of a ball player, not afraid to admit I’ve been on the receiving end of a few of his crushing hits. 😅

  10. Gate City fans are STILL unbearable. When Lee played them at Legion in 2020 they were calling one of our players the n word anytime he would touch the ball. He got pissed at started jawing back at them and ended up getting tossed for it.

Union secondary just got younger too, lost a Sr. starter for a few weeks.  At this points might as well start all freshmen in secondary

I’m hearing good things about one freshman in particular, Keith Chandler. That dude is stocky and runs downhill. I remember him being a beast in little league.

Hoping for a game like that! When Lee/Union games are competitive they are some of the most entertaining. 2013/14 come to mind.

Good year of football for the Generals. When Lee had Houston Sage at QB they were on fire. Union was loaded with talent across the board

  13. I think it will be closer than it has been in the last few years, within 2 scores. Lee could open up the pass game on Unions young secondary. I just don’t think Lee can stop the run so it may come down to who gets the ball last. Whoever controls the defensive and special teams will get the nudge. 35-21 or 42-28 Union says my brain but my bias says Generals 49-42 lol.

Was the 6-6 score with TW with the starters in the whole game or did they get pulled because I actually thought Lee would win comfortably and then was surprised when I see it was a tie.

Starters for both got pulled in the 4th. Lee had a long score called back and dropped a wide open TD in the 2nd qtr. A ton of penalties for the generals too that need to be cleaned up if they want to be marginally close to Union this week. But Thomas walker is much improved than the last few years. #40 Spears is a stud for the Pioneers. I credit coach Hall for running a good offense too. Dude knows how to coach. Not a coincidence that Castlewood had their best season a few years ago when he was at the helm of the offense. Same for Lee last year.

I agree, Lee has dodged this game since the scrimmage scare of 2017. Seems odd that county rival was off the schedule during a dark period.

Without any good reason either. All I had heard as to why they wouldn’t play each other is that someone on the school board didn’t want their baby boy getting hurt, but that could just be bs. It just caused both schools to miss out financially at the end of the day.
