I'd say Lebanon baseball has a shot at winning state, as does the winner of Rye Cove or Eastside softball. Eastside hasn't been able to beat the Eagles yet though the past two seasons.

I don't see any of our regional 2A teams winning a title this year, and I think the teams above are better than the 2A teams in our region.

Lebanon moved back up to 2a. It will definitely be more of a challenge for them this year but I still think they have a decent chance to win it all again

Have you ever actually met him? Had a conversation with him? Or is your opinion of him 100% defined by a sport?

Feel like we had a similar conversation about this last year when gobble said he felt that they were the better team when they got beat by abingdon. There are two types of baseball people in swva, the ones who are complete total suck ups and treat him like he’s the best thing since sliced bread. Then there’s the ones who have seen his bs for years, if you have a kid that’s around the same age as his kids and you’ve spent numerous weekends at Domtar then I’m sure you’ll have plenty of reasons to not like jimmy gobble

This entire incident could have been avoided if the VHS coach wouldn't have ran to home like a crazy person.  His runner was clearly out and he (the coach) should have been immediately ejected for his actions.

I agree. However, if you notice the kid who was on deck you can see that he also reacted like he also seen the ball come out. There was still zero need for him to run and stand over the runner yelling at him to touch the plate

  4. Update: just caught wind that the regional umpire commissioner has started an investigation on this incident. Apparently up to 8 v high players can receive a three game suspension for leaving the dugout with the one who threw a punch and was pushing everyone likely receiving more of a penalty. I’d doubt anything would happen to most of the players though

  5. If you get a chance go to the top of the seventh inning of the Leb and v high game. V High has bases loaded, Leb has a pass ball, catcher throws the ball to the pitcher in time to get the out, then the batters pro hitter (white piece of rubber) goes flying into the air (resembles a baseball for a split second). So the third base coach comes sprinting out of the coaches box and into the dirt at home plate screaming at the runner to touch home plate, runner tries to start clawing towards home plate and then the Leb pitcher falls on the runner to get the tag because there’s a vhs player standing right in the way. Looks like vhs player tries to swing at the pitcher on the ground and then they get up and then pushes the pitcher again. No ejections because the umpire couldn’t watch what was going on bc the vhs coach was alr in his face. Intrigued to see what you guys think

I’m not sure why? SWD has Lebanon who will be competitive but how competitive will Tazewell be without the Compton girl? Richlands might be pretty good but unless things have changed Marion & Graham shouldn’t be contenders and well, VA High isn’t even fielding a team.

Sorry for the lack of clarification. Every thing I said before “on the softball side” was referring to baseball. And to answer the other question yes they brought her in later and I don’t exactly know how much of the damage was done off her except for the “home run”

On the softball side, you seem to be discounting the Mountain 7 teams awfully early in the season

Wasn’t discounting them early I was just going off of what Info I’ve had available. Lee is supposed to be a front runner and got no hit by Richlands. Lebanon run ruled a 4a team and then beat another 4a school 10-2. Also would have beat a very very good tn high team if they would have touched the plate

  8. After a couple of games in the season here are some of my thoughts. If abingdon and Lebanon can both clean up their game a little bit I feel like they are state contenders. Battle should make it to the state tourney. Marion is solid, tazewell is solid, Virginia high is decent but they should get better as the season goes on, Central is decent, and Richlands could probably beat just about anyone in the region if hale is having a good day on the mound. On the softball side i feel like Lebanon and Richlands are competing for the region and then everyone else is playing for 3rd place

A D1 pitching duel in lebanon this evening,  Abingdon wins 16-15.  somewhere around 6 or 7 home runs hit in this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lebanon didn’t throw their d1 guy and didn’t throw their #2 pitcher. Lebanon hit two grand slams off of both of abingdons d1 pitchers unfortunately it was ruled that a runner on the second grand slam didn’t touch home and resulted in a 3 run homer. Abingdon hit one grand slam, three run homer, and a solo shot (may have been a 2 run can’t exactly remember). Super fun game to watch between two powerhouse programs and each should make pretty deep playoff runs in their respective class

Funny how the 2 teams played for region finals only 2 kids on 1st and 2nd team when others have more lol

I don’t agree with it either but just like how we were talking on another thread that it’s all just politics. Upperclassmen always get put on over the talented underclassmen (which Graham and V high both have large amounts of underclassmen)
