I’m just giving them the benefit of the doubt. Most of these teams (if not all) were not at all impressive during their first couple of games. Maybe they can turn the ship around

If I’m not mistaken I’m pretty sure that everyone has beaten and been beat by a 1-8 team. Gate city is the only team to not have played one of these 8 and Graham has yet to beat one of these 8 ( only played v high)

Lots of games this coming week that could determine seeding for region play in 2D 1. Gate City 2. Lebanon 3. Graham 4. Union 5. Virginia High 6. Central 7. Honaker 8. Abingdon 9. Marion 10. Ridgeview I believe 1-8 could beat anyone on any given night

They played in the wise tourney with central getting the win in OT (doesn’t count towards their district records)

I know it didn’t count but they did get beat by Central in the wise tourney

I wasn’t basing their team off the tourney. Even if they did show up and play their best ball I still didn’t really expect them to beat Graham that badly. One of the games against abingdon they won due to poor officiating (not saying abingdon still would have won with 0.1 seconds left but we will never know). And abingdon is only good when their big is playing good. They’ve beat Lebanon and TN High when he’s scored 15+ points. Granted Marion has a decent team compared to recent years but steam rolling them still isn’t that impressive. Played an ugly game against the M7 3 seed and lost by two. Then beat a subpar Shelby Valley team 41-39 (a team which Lebanon put 79 points on). So I wasn’t really basing them off one tournament game I was just basing them off their season as a whole. But it looks to be that my assumption could be wrong. Great win for the cats

Shew I feel bad for you if you’re going to make the trip to Lebanon. Pretty sure that their baseball team is having their ring ceremony before the boys game. Ain’t gonna get home til late

Incredibly weird. The Virginia High team that showed up at the Wise tourney looked like they would have been the 4 seed in the swd. Who stood out for V high? My guess was probably one of their two bigs considering Graham doesn’t really have as much size

Good lord. Did V High play good or did Graham just play bad. Or both

Interestingly enough max preps classifies Paul VI (Chantilly, Va.) as a public school (even though I’m 99% sure it’s private) and says that they are the #1 public school in the nation. I think they have JM ranked in the top 15 not too sure tho.

Valid arguments. I’d just rather see competitive games between teams from our area. One of the other major differences between the two tourneys is the fans. Just feels like there’s no atmosphere at the Arby’s compared to what it used to be. Personally I enjoy all the fans yelling at the refs or when someone’s grandpa starts talking crap to the student section. Nothing like swva basketball

I’ll agree that battle could throw a wrench in the bracket but they definitely don’t have a shot of making it to the state tourney

And central also lost in ot to honaker and beat Union in ot and he has them at 7. Not saying they are better than either of those teams I just feel like they are definitely better than marion

Idk abt basketball but he was on the football team. Went on to play at uva wise as a lineman.

Was anyone at the south shore game today? Did their coach genuinely have an argument or he just being a sore loser? I feel like something must have happened for him to tell Tim Hayes that it was “bullsh!t.” He was also rambling on about something to do with the officials calling his players boys? Seems like he is just a cry baby if he gets that upset over the word boy. Would he prefer his players get called they/them?

Completely understand where you’re coming from. Does it make sense to play teams in a tourney that you might have to end up playing in the playoffs? Nope not at all. But personally that’s what I find entertaining about it. Watching multiple rivalry games in one day only for 10 dollars is a sports fan dream

it’s not just their basketball program that does this. There are superb football and baseball players in this area and they just refuse to recruit from our area from some reason. It is quite a shame

What makes you say that? Personally I’d much rather pay 10 dollars to watch decent teams in our area play compared to paying 15 dollars to watch decent teams not from our area play. Just felt more boring watching the Arby’s this year compared to recent years (only games that I thought that were entertaining were the GW games).
