  1. Ahmad Bradshaw (Graham)...Virginia Brandon Holland (Northside)...Virginia Tech Jordan Johnson (Abingdon)...Concord Maurice Kitchens (William Fleming)...Marshall Doug Legursky (Woodrow Wilson)...Marshall Franklin Martin (Martinsville)...James Madison Jacob Phillips (Bath Co.)...William & Mary T.J. Slagle (Virginia High)...Carson-Newman Joe Thomas (Mount View)...Concord Greg Vineyard (Mount View)...Hofstra Sam Wheeler (Blacksburg)...Virginia Tech Anthony Hayes (Princeton)...Marshall (partial scholarship) Adam Hughes (Princeton)...WVU (invited walk-on) I will continue to update the list as more names/schools come in.
  2. In-state recruiting??? WVU and Marshall both signed more players from VA than WV. WVU's only WV signee was Brandon Barrett, a 4-star player from Martinsburg. Marshall signed two WV kids...Doug Legursky from Beckley and Joe Bragg from Morgantown. WVU picked up two players from Virginia, massive OL John Bradshaw from Fredricksburg and extremely exciting QB Terry Mitchell from Virginia Beach. Marshall landed three signees from the Old Dominion...LB Jason Kaminski, LB Maurice Kitchens, and DE Floyd Wright. Marshall was also in the running for the VA AAA Offensive Player of the Year and the #2 rated player in the state Eddie Royal from Chantilly, VA. Royal, whose brother is currently on the Thundering Herd squad, signed with VT and will continue playing with his high school QB Sean Glennon, who also inked with VT during a joint press conference/LOI signing at Westfield HS. Virginia Tech signed a total of 12 kids from Virginia, including 4 of the top 10 players. UVA has signed 11 in-state kids, includes 4 of the top 10 players and the #1 rated player in Virginia, Olu Hall.

  4. Show me the link! I can't find anything on the VHSL site that says anything about "strength of schedule"...I can't find any rankings of "strength of schedule" either. HELP ME!!! Show me where you found this...
  5. "3rd hardest schedule ranked in the VHSL System" Where do you come up with this???? Give me a link...I'd love to see those kinds of numbers from the VHSL!!!
  6. Listening to it on the radio, it sounded as if the announcer and the two teams were the only ones in the gym...I know that's not true because the parking lot at the HS was full when I drove by.
  7. Bradshaw scores 42.

  10. Belcher 8 pts. Braxton 8 pts. Remines 7 pts. Jones 7 pts. Goodson 5 pts. Bovenizer 2 pts. Graham falls to 9-2.
  11. Give me the link to where 10+ people pick Glenvar as a Region C contender.
  12. VaPreps has you ranked 2nd in what in Region C??? Definitely not football! There are three teams in your own district, in Division 2, that you can't beat in football...not to mention George Wythe and Lebanon from the Hogo. Heck, I'm not sure you guys can beat James River or Grayson Co., two other D2 schools from two of the weakest Class A districts in the state. You may have all your starters coming back from a 2-8 team but that only means you've got a team that is experienced at losing. If you had finished 6-4 or better, then I might feel differently about your outlook for next season!
  13. Looks like it could be a LONG night for the G-Men. I found this article from 11/20/03...these guys are scary!!! Prep School Countdown: No. 1 Laurinburg By Jeff Goodman TheInsiders.com Laurinburg (N.C.) may not be quite as loaded as last year when they claimed the first-ever prep school national crown, but these guys are still right there - and that's why we've given them the top spot to start the season - until proven otherwise. We’re unveiling the most extensive and only prep school poll of its kind and we’re finally down to the top-ranked team in the land – No. 1 Laurinburg (N.C.). These guys finished on top last season with just a pair of losses and while we have them as our preseason numero uno, this year will be much tougher. Don’t get us wrong. These guys have plenty of talent, but there is more parity this season among the prep school ranks. "It’s just a matter of putting everything together,” Chaney said. “Right now we’re at the stage where we’re changing a lot of things up and we haven’t gotten a solid rotation.” ``Last year we kind of developed an “us against everyone else” mentality,” he added. “The players believed in that and that got us to number one. This year’s team is the all-name team. We have an opportunity to do it, but it’s a lot different because everybody’s juiced for us.” Up front, it’ll be 6-11, 220-pound center Longar Longar, a terrific athlete who will play at Oklahoma next season that can run the floor and block shots. Baltimore native Richard Dorsey, a chiseled, 6-9, 225-pound power forward who signed with Memphis, is a man-child who gives the team an intimidator in the paint. It’s likely that Chris Chaney will go with a three-guard offense that includes Vincent Banks, C.J. Anderson and Joe McCray. The 6-3, 190-pound Banks is a scoring point guard from Georgia who will play for Bob Huggins at Cincinnati. Anderson is a versatile 6-6, 200-pound swingman who could also see some time at the point and is being recruited by Virginia Tech and McCray is a former two-sport star at Ft. Lauderdale Dillard (Fla.) who is a deadly outside shooter headed to Nebraska. Senior big man Benny Songondo is still recovering from a knee injury, but is expected to play this weekend at the War on the Shore. The 6-11, 245-pound Central Africa Republic native is getting plenty of early looks from high-majors who want to see him in action since he’s been injured for much of his time since arriving in the U.S. Former Las Vegas Cheyenne (Nev.) stars Chad Ferguson and Chris Fuller will both play vital roles coming off the bench. Ferguson is a 6-7 ½, 220-pound forward who can bury the outside shot and has committed to Coastal Carolina while Fuller is a 6-5, 205-pound swingman who will play at Loyola (Ill.) next year. Other players who will provide depth for Chaney’s squad this year are Kiwan Smith (6-7), Kelvin Davis (6-4) Justin Holland (6-3, 180), Kris Clark (6-4, 175), Chance McGrady (6-3, 180), Eric Howard (5-11, 145) and Bruce Royal (6-0, 155). Laurinburg also expects 6-9, 215-pound Cameroon junior Stephon Belindea after the holidays. ``Our strength is definitely our athletic ability and our depth,” Chaney said. “We can run out a lot of different lineups, big or small. We don’t have trouble scoring, but it’ll be interesting to see if we get better as we go on.”
  14. It was off and now its back on according to a post on VAPreps from a PD fan...don't remember if it was mhsalum or piedmontfan or someone else...
  15. He was a good man and will be missed by many in the Graham family!
  16. Lance...the verbal committment is a done deal! Its been in several major VA newpapers and on several websites. Unfortunately, our local media has missed out on yet another story! I'm sure they will have some sort of coverage on signing day though (Feb 4th).

  19. 2001...I guess you are right...I don't go to many HS basketball games (can't stand the always horrible officiating) and sometimes I lose track of time. I did make it to the Bluefield-WW game last year at BHS...the one where Bluefield came back from a 20+ point deficit and almost won the game.
  20. Graham opened with a 13-0 run and never looked back. Bradshaw had 34 and Belcher added 21 as the G-Men defeat their cross-town rivals for the third consecutive year (including the last two Princeton Christmas Tourneys).
  21. Thanks for clearing that up! I've heard SO MANY rumors (most of it wishful thinking) that its getting stupid! Folks don't understand that hiring a HS coach is MUCH different than a college or pro team hiring a coach...there are no "contract negotiations" (I heard that one the other day) over salary and such (that is something that is set by the school board - take it or leave it). Hopefully Tazewell will receive some quality applicants for the position and hopefully the school board will hire the right person!
  22. The days of Grundy's dominance in wrestling are history...
  23. per Mike Farrell...more to come....
