  1. Sounds like Graham hit a homerun with this hire. He's young, he's experienced at a high-level, and he comes from winning traditions. BUT, I cannot believe they hired a former Salem Spartan as head coach.... ;)
  2. This is a very poor decision; it's like throwing gasoline on a burning fire. I can see something really, really bad coming of this and by then it'll be too late. What does it say about institutions that demand a "dry campus," but yet they exploit alcohol for their own financial gain? It's like the police telling a crackhead they cannot have crack unless it's purchased from the police dept.
  3. They do it every year this early, so it isn't anything new. Besides all of this is meaningless because barring injuries the trophy will be heading to Chapel Hill next April. :)
  4. Teheran did fine for his first major league start against, what many consider, the best team in baseball. He's 20-years old and today will do nothing, but provide as a learning tool moving forward.
  5. Huge, huge, huge news! http://www.talkingchop.com/2011/5/6/2157798/majors-top-pitching-prospect-julio-teheran-to-make-his-debut-with-braves Talk about throwing the kid to the wolves; let's get it young buck!
  6. So we should be happy this team has underachieved, but is better than last year's overachieving team to this point? There's a lot of baseball to be played, but you don't want to bury yourself in a hole in the spring that you spend the entire summer trying to fight out of.
  7. A terrible amount of inconsistency across the board. I also question some of the in-game management decisions through the first month, both pitching and hitting. Another month like April and the Braves could very well be double-digit games out of first place in the East.
  8. Well someone woke up the offense for tonight's game and better yet, Hanson is pitching his best game of the year.
  9. Wow, sounds like a parent trying to get rich off an unfortunate accident. I've played at War Memorial several times and the walls are no closer to the court than at most other places.
  10. It's still early, but I'd like see batting order adjusted to something more like this: 1. Prado 2. Heyward 3. Jones 4. Uggla 5. McCann 6. Gonzalez 7. Freeman 8. McLouth I just think such a lineup would be more consistent with putting runs on the board. We have great pitching, but that doesn't mean squat without run support. Lowe pitched wonderfully last night, but got the loss b/c the offense was non-existent.
  11. Very strong outing from Beachy; 6-innings, 88 pitches (61 strikes), one run, and seven strikeouts. And the bullpen was lights out once again...
  12. They've got the pitching depth in the farm system to score a proven starter. I just don't want to see them part with any of the big names such as Teheran, Vizcaino, Minor, or Delgado.
  13. Tommy Hanson's first start of the season and he's still the same pitcher he has been, inconsistent and unreliable. If Atlanta is going to make a serious run at the postseason and beyond Hanson has to get it together and become more consistent.
  14. There should be someway to change it from requiring a vote to change the draft date; examine all of you commissioner tools/options. If not, then I assume this league is toast?
  15. No doubt. If something doesn't happen soon with getting the draft together I'm pulling out of the league.
  16. Don't know the order or dates, but you're missing Oak Hill from the schedule; the Beavers have 10 games for 2011.
  17. I must say, the jealousy and envy dripping from this thread is comical. Keep it coming fellas; best thread since football season ended. Congrats to Shawn and his boys for their win today over E.C. Glass.
  18. I think it should be noted that C'burg is in fact on the same side of the bracket as Potomac Falls. If they defeat Glass on Saturday they would face Falls in the semifinals. Hidden Valley, the winner of the region, is in the opposite bracket and would play the winner of King George/Liberty-B. http://www.vhsl.org/athletics/basketball_boys/basketball_tournament_information
  19. Gotta agree with 73's sentiment; though I would have approached it in a more civil manner. I think it's absurd for someone to make such a claim, especially sitting an hour plus away. I think the loss had more to do with the team getting a little big-headed and Hidden Valley getting tired of losing to C'burg. I'm sure Shawn will have the team's full attention now. It'll be interesting to see what he has to say about this one when I talk to him this week. Regardless, what the coaching staff has accomplished at C'burg is very impressive considering the state of the program when the current staff took over before last season.
  20. Great start to spring training for Freddie Freeman. He went 3 for 3 today against the Mets with three doubles against three different pitchers.
  21. I'm really excited about this season and coming seasons for the Braves. The young talent, especially in the pitching ranks is among the best in baseball. There's no doubt that the Phillies are the best team in the N.L. East and N.L. altogether, but Atlanta has the parts to make a serious run at them. It's going to be a fun, exciting season in the Dirty South.
  22. I didn't think this would happen until Beamer left as coach or a new A.D. forced Beamer's hand. Although, I don't believe O'Cain will be that much of an upgrade. One thing is certain, Beamer getting his butt handed to him in recruiting for 2011 seems to have woken him up somewhat.
  23. I have a question for the VT fans after watching the recruiting game play-out over the past several weeks. Are you concerned about the number of high profile targets that spurned the Hokies for the likes of UNC and even UVa.? Despite the fact that Tech's program has been substantially more stable and successful for well over a decade. Is the fact that Carolina and Virginia (with London) out-gunned you for several big-timers a concern moving forward, especially if those programs start becoming regularly successful. We'll see how things play out over the next three years or so, but on-paper Tech's class is very, very disappointing considering a number of their top prospects picked the likes of UNC and UVa. And yes, I've been awhile for several months, but there hasn't been anything worth talking about really on the high school level in that time. I hope everyone is well and the New Year has gotten off to a good start.
  24. Until next year fellas, I bid you adieu and season greetings...
