  1. Lawsuit is latest woe for Seth Greenberg April 11th, 2011 · No Comments · Virginia Tech The Virginia Tech basketball coach has more to worry about than his team’s snub by the NCAA. A $2.5-million lawsuit filed last month names Greenberg and his “Seth Greenberg Basketball Camp†at Virginia Tech. The suit claims 15-year-old Austin Schuler of Augusta County was severely injured when his head hit a cinder block wall around a basketball court in Tech’s War Memorial Gym. The suit alleges the wall was too close to the court and the padding failed to cover the lower portion of the wall. Schuler, a student at Fishersville’s Woodrow Wilson Memorial High School, was participating in the Seth Greenberg Basketball Camp in June 2009 when the accident occurred. The lawsuit alleges the defendants - Greenberg, the camp and Virginia Tech - owed Schuler a duty of “utmost care†because of the special relationship between the camp and its participants. The suit was filed March 28 in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Schuler is represented by Marks & Harrison.
  2. The way I always remembered the difference between slander and liable in law school was to associate slander with "Sanders Henderson" the old RHS football coach, Tazewell Asst. Principal, who knows where he is now. If you know the man, he talks often--some may say too much. People who talk too much are more likely to slander; thus Slander/Sanders Henderson.
  3. Slander is spoken. Liable is written. Truth is an absolute defense to either. No case.
  4. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. What a phoney.
  5. Lou Holtz said it best when he said that Tech is like a bunch of bullies who beat up on the little guys until they face someone as tough as they are. Absent JMU, Tech didn't play down to their competition this year, nor do they usually. However, as per usual (1-25 vs. top 5 teams), they didn't play up to their competition either. Some of Tech's players seemed to roll over, throw mouthpieces, hands in the air, etc. after they started to get beat. Stanford seemed to be a more class operation than the Hokies. That being said, Tech had their typical year--they win their conference and get mauled in the big game.
  6. The latest rumor is that Rich Rodriguez may end up there if he's let go at Michigan.
  7. If you take the Virginia bar and pass, we could use you a bright young attorney like yourself in one of our 11 offices. More sarcasm.
  8. Actually, young law school graduate, assault is the imminent apprehension of harm. The only applicable assault in this scenario whould be when the player charged at the official or before he shoved the official. Once the player touches the official, a battery has occurred in both tort and criminal law. This is a simple battery. You better get this straight before you take the bar.
  9. I'd like to see somebody try and do that to George Brown or one of the Richlands crew. Johnny Altizer would have probably put that kid in a figure four leg lock.
  10. He played football at Virginia Tech when Mance was there playing baseball--both scholarship, both good athletes. He used to be the head football coach at Poqouson; he is now the assistant principal there. When he was at Richlands he was an assistant football coach--DBs and Running Backs. His nickname, jokingly amongst the team, was "Acid" because he always had a dazed, distant, really mellow look about him and he talked really slowly--kind of like he used to take to much acid. He was a very nice guy though; never talked down to students; always helpful. If anybody ever wrestled or has attended an Agie Skeens Tournament in Grundy, Poqouson used to bring cheerleaders to their wrestling matches. Hard nose group; good wrestlers.
  11. I don't live in the area anymore and occasionally come on here to check out high school sports in the area. After reading this diatribe of vitriole and myopic postings, I'm glad I'm not there anymore. Please turn off Fox and think for yourself.
  12. Since Tech and Miami went to the ACC: Big East=3 BCS wins ACC=0 BCS wins Boise State=1 BCS win Since the inception of the BCS: Big East--6 wins and 4 losses (No wins by VT) ACC-- 1 win and 9 losses (VT did chip in for two of those losses)
  13. What do Boise State and the ACC have in common? ONE BCS WIN
