  1. I'll say I was very impressed with Cole this year. He and Lilly (Lilly more so on defense) were the 2 leaders of that team. Does anyone know where Cole might play in college. I'd like to see him take a stab at D1, he's one of the best High School QB's I've seen in this area.
  2. I did. Haven't been this right about a game in a long time. Bluefield couldn't stop the run, Wayne couldn't stop the pass. Still a nice comeback from Bluefield, and just being in the playoffs, most teams don't recover from an 0-3 start. Wayne's a good squad, I knew that after they beat JM by 21 points, it'll be a very good game with them and Grafton next week.
  3. No surprise there, especially from James Monroe fans. Magnolia was outragiously young last year and would've beaten us if not for 3 Magnolia turnovers inside our 10 yd line and a blocked punt we scored off of. They'll be a very hard game for either Weir or hopefully James Monroe next week.
  4. No, I'm not going to make it up there this week, I'll be relying on the radio guys I suppose. Hopefully they win, if they do and play in Morgantown next week I'm going to try and make it up there, and I'll definetly go to the one after that if they get there. Have a good trip though, bundle up and I'm looking forward to seeing the photos of the game.
  5. You said it all right there. A month ago we struggles to beat Narrows at homecoming, now they're 2 games away from a return to the title game, and if the boys continue to play like they did last week, that's not an unrealistic goal at this point. Time to take care of Weir for now.
  6. Not making any preditions on the winner of this one, but I can see it as being high scoring. Wayne hasn't seen a passing attack like Bluefileld's, and Wayne may well have the best O-line the Beavers have seen as well. I think Wayne will have to score more than the 22 points they put on Shay Spring, I believe the loser of this game may score over 30.
  7. Well, a little north of it anyway. Awesome games for the Mavs last night at Chapmanville. Like I said before the game, JM's playing their best football of the season, and it couldn't be at a better time. Next week James Monroe goes to play at a team which came into Lindside 4 years ago and absolutely humiliated us 63-22, I know none af the players will be the same, but a win against this team will help put some bad memories to rest. Once again I like our chances in this one. I don't care if you were "looking ahead" or what, when you only beat Independence 23-14, your eaither not playing your best, or you might be a little overrated. Either way, definetly looking forward to the game next week.
  8. 2 days from gametime I'm still undecided whether or not I'm going to this one, I've got alot to due at home, and it's a long drive, but we'll see. James Monroe has a good chance to win this one. Despite the loss to Bluefield, the Mavs played much better the last 4 games of the seaso than they were earlier in the year, meanwhile Chapmanville enters with a 2 game losing streak. Looking at their scores it appears they're not the best offensive team around (in other words they're alot like us). 2 big factors lately are we're getting some guys healthy again, and our offensive line is finely getting it together. I expect a fairly low scoring game, and I like the chances of a big defensive or special teams play to win it for the Mavericks, I think I've seen more blocked punts and int and kickoff returns for scores for JM this year than for Virginia Tech on a good year!

  10. I hope that what's being said about the series ending is wrong. It's a great game most of the time, and both teams usually end up better because of it.
  11. Floyd 20 Giles 14-from last week Martinsville 21 Bassett 14 Bland 29 FT Chiswell 13 George Wythe 28 Chihowie 21 Gate City 31 JI Burton 28 Bath Co 26 James River 14 Norhtwood 17 John Battle 14 By the way, I know most of these games are Virginia, but Bluefield at James Monroe didn't make it on here ? W.T.F!?
  12. The James Monroe-Bluefield game is pretty simple-winner is in the playoffs, loser is most likely in a must win situation the final week. I, REALLY!!! hate to say this, but Bluefield's obviously playing much better right now. It'll be intereting to see if we can answer the air attack of Bluefield.
  13. At this point in the season we've got a pretty good idea of who's going to have a good year and who won't just want to hear who everyone thinks exceeded expectations or ended up being way overrated. For me, I'm realsurprised with Pocahontas Co. and Chapmanville 10 years ago both were about the sorriest excuses for a team in the state, now both are currently undeafeated and Pocahontas has yet to score under 40 points yet this year. Still alot of football left to be played, but still an impressive turnaround. Don't know why I got my hopes up about either 1 of these teams, but Princeton and Greenbrier East just aren't getting it done. Princeton got off to a very promising start and have done jack squat lately and without a monumental performance from here-on out, will be listening to someone else in the playoffs-again. I thought that East had started to turn it around last year, but I think Coach Mike Michaels is now officially on the hot seat.
  14. They certainly can, but not without some adjustments in their pass defense, Radford burnt them up, and from my understanding Floyd throws the ball every much as they did. I've told some people at Giles that their 5-3 formation would leave them vulnerable to the pass sooner or later, and it did in the Radford loss. Either way this is a must-win if Giles is to get to the playoffs, they won't get in with 2 district losses. Injuries to any of Giles' players will hurt too, because they have NO depth with 23 players.
  15. Alot will depend on if Scott self-destructs like they did against JM. They actually shut down us completely, of course they aren't the only ones who have done that this year. If Scott avoids the turnowvers this will be alot closer than most people think, if not, Bluefield wins be 21+.
  16. On paper JM should win big, but if MV has the speed they usually do, I'm concerned, especially with our pass coverage. Overall I thought we had our best game of the year against G. East, especially after some cheap shots (from both sides) got our guys fired up in the second half. I could be wrong, but I'm not expecting a 10-6 score. In the 4 games we've played these guys, 2 under Jackson, and 2 under Witt, the least we've scored is 30 points. I wouldn't be surprised to see the full-house backfield look in this one, and trying to control the clock running. This is a big game for the Mavs, a win Friday and we'll probably only need to win 1 of the remaining 2 games to get into the playoffs, a loss, and we'll pretty much be in a must-win situation against Bluefield and Summers.

  18. I think the rebuilding is the major thing. As far as emotion that someone mentioned, last year's team wasn't that emotional either, at least I didn't think, so the coach didn't have that much to do with it. 1998 & 99 were by far the most "fired up" teams we've had and those were under most of the same coaches. What's missed in all this is the defense has had a pretty good year, especially with the interceptions, just the offense isn't scoring 40 ppg. We're in a rebuilding year, no doubt about that, may be next year too, but the boys will eventually come around, hopefully sooner than later.
  19. They usually aren't right. I remember when "Remember the Titans" came out. Remember the 9-7 win the the movie championship, it was actually 27-0 I found out, but that's a minor discrepency compared to what their doing in the Davis movie. WVU needs to raise a stink on this one. If it had happended, that's one thing, if not, get your facts strait.
  20. The danger for Rodriguez is with Ohio St and Penn St doing well right now, big-time recruits in the region aren't going to be especially attracted to a team that just lost to Toledo. Most recruits aren't going to play for a team that they think a coach will either leave or be fired from. Should Michigan get similar results next year, I can see him being fired as a real possibility. The powers-that-be in Ann Arbor are far less forgiving then Morgantown. Unfortunatly, that situation is the same for WVU. West Virginia bady needs to finish strong, and avoid any more embarrasments like with ECU. Unless the offense gets better, recruits will lose faith with Stewart, some have already.
  21. Hopefully we've improved a little by them. Last year it probably would've been a good game, we'll just see how we are then. I don't look for LSU to be down though, that hasn't happended since before I can remember, but only time will tell.
  22. Depends how Narrows responds to the tough loss at JM last week, (Which if not for a couple at critical mistakes, Narrows would have won by 2 scores). If Narrows plays to potential, they "should" cream Bland, and run the table to the playoffs, the Green Wave is a much improved team over last year.

  24. Narrows is definetly a better team, talked to Coach Jackson a bit before Mel King's funeral yesterday, he felt Narrows out-played us and want it more, he's probably right. Turnovers and the procedure penalty on the goal ine did Narrows in or they probably would've pulled it off. Coach thinks alot of the problem is most of our guys just got used as human tackling dummies buy the last couple of teams we've had, and it's hard to actually get them excited about anything. Offensively the only thing I liked was the drive that got the FG at the end of the half, we exicuted the 2-min drill real good and the 10-15 yd passes worked real well, maybe that's something we can build on. Defensively, real good against the run, C- against the pass. Not going to mention names but we've still got at least 1 DB that's killing us, and our back-up DE in the other night seemed half-hearted rushing the passer, he could've had at least 3-4 sacks if he'd wanted them. Gotta start playing with some fire boys, it doesn't get any easier from here.
  25. http://www.legacy.com/bdtonline/Obituaries.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=118653002 Thought it appropriate to say something about Mel on here. If there has been a bigger Peterstown and James Monroe football fan, I haven't meet them. In all seriousness Mel was one of the best peaople to be around I knew of, and he'll definetly be missed. Thankfully, I know he's in a much better place, he actually made the statement about 5 years ago "Lord don't take me in the fall, love that football, love that turkey hunting". Well, God saw fit to take him in the fall, fortunetly though Mel didn't have to suffer very long at all with the cancer he had, and died in his chair, not in a hosptial or nursing home. Interestingly enough one of the more knowledgeable Narrows fans I knew, Lilburn Craig passed away about 2 weeks ago, these 2 knew eachother well and both would've probably been in Lindside tonight if they could've been. Do remember Mel's family in your prayers, they knew this was coming, but Mel's daughter passed away less than a year ago, so they've had it pretty rough as of late, and they are good folks as well.
