  1. As I said earlier, I was not saying we would have won, just that the game should have been a little more competitive. I think that saying we should beat Graham because we played Richlands close is asking for trouble because each team matches up different. If CC shows up to play like they did last night, I agree, it wouldn't matter where the game was played, we would have lost. I have a lot of respect for the Graham football program because year after year they are right in the middle of things. I think we would have had to play our best to have a chance against Graham, and we obviously didn't last night. If that is the only time you've seen CC play this year, I don't blame you for thinking you're that much better than us. It was hard to watch, and I hope the guys have a chance to get it together and bounce back for the playoffs. As Lance said, chalk it up to a bad game, try to learn from it, and go on. The game has been played, we got our butts handed to us, now we'll just have to see how the guys respond. I think that Graham looked as good as any team we have seen this year. The positive thing is the guys from CC do have a chance to finish on a better note. I would have hated for the game last night to be the last one for a group of guys that have put in so much work. Again, good luck to all the SWD teams in the next few weeks.
  2. I think it was obvious that our guys had not recovered either physically or mentally from the game last week against Richlands. They seemed to be flat from the beginning, and Graham jumped on them early. I know that the guys have to be able to bounce back, the coaches have to get them fired up, etc. but that is easier to say than to accomplish, especially after a game like we had last week. We had several players that were banged up and others that had been sick all week. At the other end of the emotional spectrum, I was listening to the Graham broadcast of the game and heard that earlier in the day they had named the road by the school in honor of their late coach. I'm sure the G-men were fired up, and it showed. I'm not saying we would have won because I was very impressed with Graham, but I do think the game would have been more competitive. I guess you are only as good as your last game, but I do think we are much better than we showed last night. Anyway, good luck to all of the SWD teams in the playoffs.
  3. It looked like he pulled it a little left. I didn't see if there was a problem with the snap, hold, etc. Lance has made a lot of big kicks for us over the last few years. Regardless of why it was missed, I hope the other guys pick him up. I like our chances anytime Lance gets an opportunity to kick, but this one didn't work out.
  4. Just wanted to let our guys know that we are proud of them. They played their hearts out, and played an awesome Richlands team to a virtual draw. I wouldn't have thought the game would have came down to a missed extra point, but that's football. The crowd was great tonight, and there was a lot of noise from both sides. I don't think a lot of folks thought we had a chance tonight, but we've got a good football team as well. Keep your heads up guys, you've got more work to do. Congratulations to Richlands on a hard fought win, and good luck the rest of the season.
  5. Congratulations to Grundy on winning the "pre" tournament. I was thinking about this season's games between the four teams in the tournament, and realized that no one has won a game on an opponent's home court as of yet. The games at Richlands were held at a "neutral" site. This would appear to favor Grundy if everything continues to play out as it has all year. I think all four teams are pretty even, and anyone could beat anyone on a given night. I don't remember a season that the home court was as big a factor as this year's. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Good luck to all of the teams, and we'll see how it goes on Thursday.
  6. Thanks Lance. I have no problem with you. You support your team and are very knowledgable about the entire region. I may run into you next year at CC. I wish we had another week of football, but I guess its on to basketball.
  7. I'll try to be as brief as I can with this, so here goes. I want to thank the coaches and players at Carroll Co. for their hard work this year. We lost to a very good Bassett team last night, but we still think our guys are winners. My son played his last game last night, after four years of varsity football. He has been on teams that finished 0-10, 5-5, 10-2, and this year 6-5. He and the rest of the senior captains played huge roles in making what was labeled a rebuilding year better than anticipated. He and the other guys have gotten to experience good times and bad as a team. These experiences will help all of them later in life. While the won-lost records are important, the lessons learned from playing the game mean a lot too. I think that our program may have turned the corner towards year to year respectability which is what every program strives for. Wanting to be at every game to support my son has reminded me how much fun it is going to the games, being with friends, supporting your school, etc. I plan on going to the games next year although I know it will be different. For all of the parents that read this message board, cherish every play, game, moment, etc. It goes by entirely too fast. I have had the opportunity to watch my son mature, become a leader and a fine football player to boot. I have a lot of great memories that in the words of the credit card commercial, are "priceless". Good luck to Tazewell and Richlands as their season continues. Thanks son for the last four years.
  8. I think the game was moved to Sat. to begin with because Bassett had a game on Monday night. Evidently, there is a conflict with another event on Sat., so the game was moved back to Friday. I just hope word gets to everyone so nobody misses the game that wanted to attend.
  9. I'm sure that Graham will be back in the middle of things soon. I have a lot of respect for their program, because of the year after year consistency they show. That is difficult to acheive in High school football. I am proud of our team and program because this was supposed to be a rebuilding year. It hasn't been that long ago that a rebuilding year at Carroll finished at 0-10. I feel like Coach Hale and the other coaches are doing an excellent job, and that we can continue to be competitive with all of the teams in the SWD. Even though Graham had a down year by their standards, they certainly couldn't be classified as a bad team. I think the SWD was strong from top to bottom this year, and I hope all the teams represent the district well in the playoffs.
  10. That's cool Lance, no problem. It was nice to hear about some "questionable" calls in a game we weren't involved in. Good luck the rest of the season.
  11. I would agree that things are looking good for next year as we only lose a few guys that play much. However, each of the four Senior captains have played major roles in the team's success this year. We will have some other shoes to fill besides our running back. We will lose three other leaders in other key areas. I'm confident others will step up next year, but lets give all of the seniors credit for their contributions to the program. I am proud of all of the guys for their efforts in making what was labeled a rebuilding year a positive one. I hope we can finish the year strong, but regardless of what happens, the CC fans appreciate the effort that has been put forth by both the coaches and players.
  12. I think we will have to play a lot better than we have for the last two weeks to have a chance against the G-Men. We had six turnovers against Richlands plus two special team mistakes. Not exactly "Beamerball". I will be the first to congratulate both Richlands and Grundy on their seasons up to now, and make no excuses for losing either game. I will say that we can play better than we have the last two games, and hope we can get some good momentum going into the playoffs. Both teams played on the same field in both games, and that is a non factor. If we play good football and limit our turnovers, we have a chance to win what will probably be a close game. If we continue to turn the ball over, it would be difficult for us to beat anyone. I don't want to start on the refs topic again, but I will repeat what I said earlier: Fans, coaches, and the players have no control over what may or may not be called during a game. It sounds as if the Grundy/Tazewell game had some "questionable calls" in it as well. I think that is a part of high school football. Good luck to both teams, and I hope it is a well played game free of controversy.
  13. Congratulations on winning the district. Good luck in the playoffs.
  14. I would be the first to admit that there were some questionalbe calls in that game. (not lacking the guts to admit it) My point was a 40 point win was not usually one that you could either credit/blame the officials for. Anyway, that was last year. I was watching the game and did not see what was happening on your sideline with the fans. I don't like to go to other places and deal with the taunting, etc. and I don't expect our fans to do so either. I'm sorry that some of you had a bad experience in CC last year with the fans, and as I said earlier, I do not support that type of behavor in any way. Most of the folks that act like that probably have never had a uniform on. I hope both teams play well (on a level field as you said)without injury.
  15. Nice post. It was a hard fought game that either team had a chance to win. It was certainly not a pillow fight! I think that comment was made about the CC/Abington game on the Va. Preps board last week. Good luck with the rest of your season.
