I think Mitchel, Owens, and all the other Union players would tell everyone that it is not about who the best player is on the team, its the team that counts.  To this day I don't see the letter "i" in the word team.  They are outstanding players on this team, but what has got Union this far is the team effort, and that is what will win this game, TEAM EFFORT!!

    GO BEARS!!!1

Union has been playing as a team too. While James is the most talented player on the team, he is very clearly not the whole team as some want to believe.

I love how Union is playing as a team. Owens, Zirkle, Jenkins, and Mitchell are very good weapons to use.

  2. Appomattox seems like a great community. The way they came together when tragedy struck was very inspiring.

However, there seems to be a great degree of arrogance and pettiness among the fan base. I think the fan base is a bit spoiled from recent success and it seems as if there is a sense of entitlement.

On the Facebook feed, I read messages that Glenvar’s Band was too loud. Appomattox didn’t even bring their band, which I heard would have been missing a lot of members due to Thanksgiving. I didn’t hear the Glenvar band in the feed. They may have been noisy. Nothing wrong with that. If you cannot handle Glenvar’s band, then you are going to be in for it at Bullitt Park. You also haven’t been to Legion Field when Gate City has been a powerhouse.

Also on Facebook, I read where people were complaining that area fan bases were coming to make noise and that it was bullying. Noisy fans don’t come anywhere close to bullying. You clearly haven’t watched most SEC games or even some ACC games like Virginia Tech, though I don’t like Tech.

I predict Union wins 28-21. I stand by my prediction. Union may very well lose. After all, this is Appomattox. The difference between this year and last year is:

    1. Union has what it takes to win.

    2. It is at Bullitt Park. Union has a 28 game home win streak. Yes streaks can be broken. That clearly includes Appo’s reign. That can be broken.

I hope you are right! However I keep thinking about a 4-7 Team that held the bears to 6 points through almost 4 quarters. 13 points won’t win this game!

    That was ONE game.

    This 4-6 team lost to:

Union TWICE. Union is playing in the state semifinals, are undefeated and going by VHSL average alone, are tied for number 1 in 2a.  The other 2a team with a 27.0 rating lost in the playoffs.

Blacksburg: 9-1 in regular season. Just lost to TWICE defending 4A champions, Salem, a team they thumped 49-12 in regular season.

Bluefield WV: undefeated currently I do believe. They are about to play for an 11th State Championship?

William Byrd: a 4A team. 8-2 in regular season? Not sure which round they lost.

Marion: who lost to VA High, who wasn’t a bad team and a great Graham team. They also got beat down by undefeated Union second round 49-15, who is playing in the state semifinals.

Graham: Lost to undefeated Bluefield, who is undefeated and playing for an 11th State title. It was the first game and was controversial. Got beat down by Union in Region 2D finals 37-0.

13 points will not beat Appomattox UNLESS Appomattox only scores 12 or fewer points.

I hope you have it memorized because there will be a test on Saturday! haha

I was at the band’s first practice as Union helping out. That was the first tune they practiced if I remember correctly.

It is is an original one like Appalachia’s was. They had a catchy one.

  5. It seems as if Appomattox hates noise from the other crowd. That was the case with what I saw on the live stream the other day.

SWVA has some very noisy stadiums. This may be obvious but in your opinion, as a fellow bandie, what role do crowd noise and bands playing in giving their team an advantage?

I’ve never seen some folks that can’t stand the truth. Have to be ‘RUDE’. One dimensional isn’t hard to stop with some speed. Maybe I’m wrong but I’ll how my crowing until after the game. 13 points won’t beat Appo.

Dude, give it up! You have been bashing Union the entire postseason. You said Union didn’t play anybody before the Richlands game and that they would have a quick exit. It is true that some of Union’s opponents didn’t win a lot  Richlands had 7 losses to teams that lost no more than 2 or 3 games in the entire season. Two of those losses came to Union.

5 of Union’s regular season opponents had a .500 record or greater.

Keep doubting Union. We Union fans along with nearly every other poster on here will keep proving you wrong with facts.

Perhaps Union doesn’t beat Appomattox. Appomattox is the twice defending state champions, after all. And they are still alive.

But if Union’s one-dimensional offense happens to win, will you finally show common sense or will you finally shut up? I vote for the latter.

Bottom line: Union’s one-dimensional approach has netted them a 10-0 regular season record, FIRST seed, HIGHEST average in 2A in the STATE, the Region D championship in the first year return of the Region format from the past (much improved version), home field advantage all the way through the State Semis, a berth in the Final Four, and quite possibly a spot in the championship if they keep up the good work.

I am sorry you think we are rude but if being rude is what it takes then we will do it.

Just a thought or two, some on the other “Yankee Board” are crying now about “travel” they are saying it’s not fair for Poquoson to have to drive all the way to Salem if they win out......suck it up buttercup, it could be worse “ if we still had cross bracketing you could be driving to Big Stone Gap, but no worries you will not win next week. They wanted to put the state game halfway between the two finalist....again just the Yankees trying to screw SW Va

    Oh b**** please, Poquoson!

In 1995, an undefeated PV team had to travel to the eastern shore to play Northampton in the championship and kicked their tails.

Just check the  scores in our games with Union v Graham .

Richlands has a strong rivalry with us. Both Union and Richlands step up to play against each other. Throw out the records. It’s one of those things.

In Union’s first season Richlands should have won by about 3-4 TDs. But Union came to play and just about pulled off the upset.

I have a lotta respect for G-Men as well. People rumbled about the potential for a chippy game and nothing like that happened. Neither team did anything dirty or out of line from what I saw, both teams played a clean, hard game.

Coach Palmer did seem to have control of his team. You G Men have a keeper in that guy. He’ll get you a ring one day or close to it.

Why don’t these two teams play in regular season?!

  10. I am back in Roanoke. I didn’t expect that type at all. At the half, though Union had a firm lead, a comeback from Graham was very realistic. Union ended any hope of that on the pick 6.

We left at 6 Minutes to go in the game. Union had put what seemed like the final nail in the coffin and made it 31-0. We had a 3 hour drive back to Roanoke and I was not fighting the traffic. Before I got out of Big Stone the Twitter feed informed me of the fumble return for TD.

I really did like how Graham carried the police flag.

I have Faith.  We can do it. Good luck to both teams tomorrow.  I do have a question.  A bunch of us are following Graham's bus down tomorrow.  I'm hearing about how hard it is to get a seat and standing room only for some.  Is there anywhere for fans to set up folding chairs?

    You probably could find somewhere.

26-14 Appo 1:43 to go.  Looks like Graham / Union knows their opponent next week.  I'm surprised Glenvar played them this close.  Appo still busted a few big plays, but they had a definite speed advantage.  Line of scrimmage was a wash.

Region D champ will have to play very well next week.

Watching Appo and Glenvar.  I think whoever comes out on top between Graham and Union can play with that team.  They're good.  But I believe region C is down this year.  Glenvar looks slow.  I may be a bit presumptuous but I think Region D can hang with them this year.

I watched for a few minutes and thought the same thing.
