  1. A few thoughts: Graham will come in to the MED as the team to beat in football. Fort's upstart program will create a quick rilvary. Everyone else is average on a good year. Like it has been posted already on this thread, D2 region C is always up for grabs. Usually 4-6 quality teams year in and year out. If Graham thinks that they will walk through region C every year they will learn fast. That's not to say that they won't win their fair share. Looking back, I think that Graham would have won region C and maybe state in D2 in 2003.....wasn't that Bradshaw's year when they lost to Gretna? Since, I think they would have made the playoffs winning the MED but would not have won the region. Giles, GW, and Floyd were very strong the years they won the region 04-08 and Radford this year. Graham would have won the MED every year until maybe this year battling with Fort if they were in the MED for the last decade.
  2. I think we could easily see a scenario like the Dogwood used to have. Some schools in that district were AA while others were single A. This may appear lopsided as far as the district crown but with the current 6 team playoff format in Region IV and C I think this could work. Travel and money is the main issuses at hand right now so this could be a solution.
  3. Last year yes. The year before, Floyd was 10-0 in regular season play and would have have provided alot of points. Beating pulaski this year would not have been as good as beating them last year. Each year is different.
  4. Not sure why Richlands is so worried about points. The easiest place to make the playoffs is Region IV D3. It will get even easier when G and G drop to single A. If this is going to cause a domino effect, and Abingon ends up in single with numbers over 900, then that is totally unfair. You guys will agree if Abingdon begins to get better in all sports. A school that size "should" dominate schools half their size. This will be very intresting to follow in the weeks/years to come. How the VHSL handles William FLeming and PH's request will be a good indicator how they will handle the larger SWD teams when they apply to play down due to location.
  5. Who's playing 6 A schools? If they are from WV, they are not the same as playing D 6 schools in VA. Will single A teams not play SWD teams? Carroll was playing Floyd but dropped them due to the pioints system. Am I correct when I say that 9 teams are in region IV D3 as it stands now? Losing Graham and Grundy would mean there is only 7. So, every team makes the playoffs except 1????? Here is another thought. If all of the SWD teams drop eventually, What will happen to the currect region IV? What about D 3? Cave is the only D3 school in the River Ridge. That would leave patrick, Tunstall, martinsville, and Cave. Is that all? Like I say, big changes may be on the horizon.
  6. THings are about to get even crazier in VHSL. I think we can all understand that money and traveling is going to be an issue. There needs to be drastic adjustments made. You can't just allow teams with 700-1000 to play schools that are 200-500. This discussion that we are having may very well be what impacts a "new aligment" in vhsl. Again, if Richlands and Marion drop, then Piedmont schools should be allowed to do the same. There would essentially be a new single A that ranges from 0-900 in enrollment. As for the orginial topic of Graham and Grundy, I think they would fit in nicely with the single A schools in swva. Enrollment wise and competition wise.
  7. Hears a couple things to consider. With today's economy, the #1 factor in moving/switching districts is money. The state of VA is making major cuts and teachers are/will be laid of in some counties. Traveling for sports must be under consideration. No way level of competition will be considered by any administration. Therefore, the MED or Hogo is the only choices for Graham. Secondly, if Marion (788) Richlands (781) and Abingdon (960) are allowed to play in single A, then we have alot of problems. How could any of these teams be in a district with schools that have l200 to even 500 stiudents? Radford (439) won region C and the semis in football this year. That's alot less than those schools. If they drop, then why can't patrick (768) and Martisville (781)? I agree with Graham, Gundy, and tazwell dropping. They will be on and keep an even playing field. No way the others should be allowed to drop. At least not without making a major change to the division set up.
  8. Some of these teams could end up in region D. Isn't that a possibility? Lebanon recently moved to region D and aren't they close to Tazwell? I am starting to believe that there would be too many teams in region C. Region IV only has 3 distircts. Region C has 4 and now we are adding even more teams to them?
  9. Please post hear. Internet or airwave.
  10. I have to say that Altavista is probably my favorite in this one. THey are a speedy team and have some impressive wins as well. However, Burton has a real chance here. One thing that always bothers me this time of year it the discrepancy in enrollment at the state finals. Burton 252 Altavista 447. Thats a pretty big difference but not as bad as Buffalo Gap 608 Clintwood 318 from the 2007 finals. Altavista would be D2 in regions C or D.
  11. THis was not the only game canceled in the commonwealth. 5 other games postponed I think. Let one accident happen and not only can people get hurt, but people also can lose jobs. Better safe than sorry. Same thing happen on 03' when Radford traveled to Gate City. Wasn't it played on Sunday as well? Not sure about that.
  12. 3 inches in ther NRV. Traveling is the problem not playing. Football's not worth an accident. Not fond of seeing a game on Sunday but you can 't risk an accident.
  13. Same team that almost beat Gretna last year. Gretna was a single A powerhouse last year. Essex brought alot back . They have rolled everyone. King William, Sussex, and Washington and Lee are traditionally good programs. Radford may could hang with all the speed but I don't know. Interested to see how Essex and Gretna plays out this weekend.
  14. For the record, the winner should lose the state title game to Essex. They are supposively an undefeated juggarnaut. Uncontested all year.
  15. Any internet radio for Radford vs Lebanon? Holston vs. JIB? Nortside vs. Cave SPring?
  16. Radford is loaded with speed.
  17. Radford's passing game isn't that effective. They run the ball with many different speed backs. I am sure that Lebanon is very good and will be the best team Radford has seen since Gretna. Not sure if that will be enough to beat Radford but it will be a great game.
  18. I have in no way dissrespected Richlnads. Richlands has proven their worth over the years. No one can debate that. In fact, I see fans questioning the worth of the River Ridge when questioning why did C-burg do this and CS won because of turnovers and such. Other than Richlands the SWD is viewed as a very weak AA distict right now. Being mostly a D3 district and having teams "play up", will get you that opinion when talking to RR and Seminole fans. Another discussion is the schedule of Richlands. Being a single A fan I know how good Gate City, Powell Velley, and Lebanon can be. I also understand the scheduling difficuties that Richlands must face due to their location. Richlands plays some good smashmouth teams every year. It would be very hard to shedule even 2 RR teams because of traveling. I wish I could go to every region championship this Friday but it's not going to happen.
  19. That's football. Every team left in the playoffs has had some tds called back and some luck along the way. Again, why are you belittling the wins of CS? Are they not a good team? If we are going to discuss CS in that matter, then why shouldn't we ask how did Richlands lose to single A Gate City? How come they only beat a 5-6 single A Powell Valley 19-14? Gave up 32 points to single A Lebanon? Does those things matter when they line up on Friday night? Nope
  20. If each team in the RIver Ridge played their counter part in the SWD then RR would win every game. For instance #1 Salem would beat #1 Richlands IMO. Each district #2 would play each other and so on. On paper I think it's safe to say that the RR would win every game. It must be mentioned that Cave is the only D3 school in the RR. Some of the SWD schools actually have single A numbers. Richlands and Cave will be a great game that could go either way. Richlands experience gives them a great shot in this one. I was surprised when CS beat Northside earlier in the year. I thought Northside was the favorite to win the semis and go to state. Northside has tremendous speed in the backfield so CS has seen and beat speed this year. C-burg also has alot of speed. I must say that I find it interesting that some posters point to a 42-0 CS loss to Salem but ignore their wins over Northside and C-burg. It has also been brought up that C-burg only beat a 3-7 Floyd team by 3 but yet it goes unmentioned that C-burg lost to undefeated Salem in OT. Let's take the Kool Aid glasses off and say that Cave is going to be a tough task. Every game this time of year should be. Correct? We can compare scores all day but how you line up against each other on Friday night is what matters.
  21. I think Richlands and cave will be a good game. However, the River Ridge is year in and year out one of, if not the best AA district in the state. For Cave Spring to come out of there with a 3-2 record, and be the only D3 team in the district says alot. I am not surprised that Cave Spring hasn't beaten anyone by more than 8 points. Every RR team is tough. Not too mention Alleghany and Northside who are both very good D3 teams. Cave's schedule has been brutal and to finish 8-2 tells me they have earned the right to be called the favorite in the region. With all that being said, Roichlands has a shot at winning that game......Graham not so much.
  22. Fort 38 Jr 14 midway 4th
  23. 24-14 Fort over JR late 3rd
  24. 27-0 C-burg over Bassett 3 minutes left in half
