  1. Tech is also bringing in a solid recruiting class again...I dont think ADV will be missed that much honestly...I think Delaney steps into that last second shot guy and Dom Dom Jones, if given the opportunity, can do some things as a freshman IMO.
  2. Duke should be the 1, Clemson has the talent, but not the depth IMO to be 2. If UNC lands John Wall (Roy is meeting with him tomarrow) then UNC jumps to 2 and pushing 1 without a doubt. Even without Wall, UNC could still be ahead of Clemson. Tech at 4 is right for them I think. Wake will still competitive and could compete for the 5. The rest of the league is up for grabs.... I think Bennett was a very strange hire at UVA. He turned away from the Indiana and Marquette jobs a year earlier, only to accept at UVA the very next year. They need players, bottom line, and if he hires one of the Boo Williams coaches as is rumored (may have already happened, not sure) then that should help that process.....
  3. It is my understanding that the plan at Grundy was to wait until the next cycle then revisit the idea of dropping to A. That seems to still be what will happen but is being made more complicated by due the impatience of some to wait....
  4. If Grundy drops, im going to say that no current SWD team will play them in football. Not so sure about the other sports.....
  5. Like I said in the beginning...Cal is your next UK coach...No doubt about it IMO...Fans are dying to have him and so is the administration...I have heard everything from 6 yrs 40 mil to 8 yrs 35 mil.... He says he is going to sleep on it tonight before making a decision....He is crazy if he turns down the money UK is throwing around....
  6. Travel to the schools that have been mentioned is no shorter than the games Grundy played in the SWD.* Some actually even worse.* Travel cost was also listed I believe as a reason for the drop.* Will the wrestling team be participating in more "local" tournaments against teams that have the same problems fielding a full team instead of traveling to places such as Reno?* Seems to defeat the purpose of dropping if we take our boys to these major tournaments that they cant win. We should be competing against schools our own size!
  7. I dont really think Tony Bennett is that much of an upgrade IMO....His grind it out O may not go over well in the ACC...
  8. He's got an offer and its being said UK is willing to go as high as 7 mil per to get Cal in Lexington.* I told you guys, he's UK bound.....Unless Memphis really empties their pockets....and I dont see that happening...
  9. The majority of the UK fanbase DOES NOT want Ford. They want Calipari. If the job doesnt go to him then they will turn to Sean Miller if all other older, established coaches pass. I personally think Calipari will end up in Lexington.
  10. Not a chance Izzo goes....If it isnt Calipari I think it will fall to Sean Miller at Xavier....
  11. How will moving to A help Grundy fill the empty weight classes? Is it a reach to suspect that some schools with much larger enrollments than Grundy still fail to field a full team?
  12. In basketball, you have to put 5 out on the floor to compete with the other teams best 5. Enrollment plays a part because with greater numbers the other team has a better chance to have bigger, stronger, faster kids because they have more to choose from. Football is the same way, except with 11 kids.... Wrestling, while your wrestling room may not be full kids 4 and 5 deep at every weight, is set up so the competition is EQUAL. They do not say in basketball that your center cannot be over 6'3 and your point guard must be 6'0 or under. In football they do not say that your QB must be no more than 6'3. Your WR cannot be over 6'4 and run faster than 4.5 in the 40. Wrestling says that if you are to compete at a certain weight class, everybody you compete against has to be the same weight! That makes everybody equal, size wize, in that weight class and allows the best kid to win because his skills are better than anybody elses in that equal weight class. There is no blaming numbers in wrestling. Its 1 on 1 with people that are the same weight as you. You are either better than the rest or you arent. People need to worry about being better than the rest, instead of worrying about how many kids the other school has. There is only 1 from each on the mat at a time..... Does not having 4 people to wrestle off and compete against in the wrestling room hurt them? Probably. Should it keep them from working their hardest to become the best wrestler they can be? No....Life isnt fair, or equal. Sometimes you are going to be behind the 8ball so to speak and have things go against you. That doesnt mean you tuck tail and run away. Grundy has been rising to the challenge for years now, some groups better than others, and enrollment problems are MUCH more evident sports such as Bball and football. Wrestling leaves it up to the kids and if they win or lose the kid only faced people that are equal to him. Its up to them to develop their skill and nobody else on their team can hold them back from an individual title. The majority of my closest friends were wrestlers and I have absolutley nothing against the GWC or anybody involved. I just think wrestling sets it up so that everybody is on an equal level when they step on the mat and its up to the kid and coaches to make sure the intangibles are better than everyone else regardless of size of school.
  13. Whether you have 5 or 1, when they step on the mat it is completely even in wrestling no matter what class the school is. They both weigh the exact same. It is 1 on 1. The other 4 103 lbs. wrestlers that the AAA school has cant do anything because only 1 is allowed on the mat. People put way too much into enrollment. It matters in some cases yes, but if it was the deciding factor, AAA schools would never lose to AA schools in anything....AA schools would never lose to A schools in anything....
  14. I dont see why its going to matter at all for wrestling...If you wrestle 103, both kids weigh 103 whether its A or AA....Its still 1 on 1, same weights no matter what class....better kid wins no matter how many people are in his school...
  15. Bob Knight has 3 NCAA titles, 1 NIT title, and coached the USA to a Gold Medal in 1984. Thats a coach who has a very good postseason record. Horrible choice to prove your point.
  16. I hope you arent referring to Bob, I have more wins than any other men's division 1 coach EVER, Knight and his 5 final fours and 3 National Championships including the last undefeated season?
  17. Coaches put players in the position to make a play. Its up to the player to execute and make the play. That goes in all sports.
  18. Really?* Are you going to bring that in here too?* Is every post I make on this site from now on going to be inspected by the few WVU homers that cant grasp the factual information that was discussed in the other thread?* I understand that JJ and the_truth have done no wrong in this thread and have nothing to do with it, but you wvuraiders are trying to stir a pot that doesnt need it. If you can go back and try to read it again, im talking about what was said in the article.* Never said I was impressed with anybody, or unimpressed with anybody.* THE ARTICLE uses the Pac 10 playing close games as being "competitive" and the ACC playing close games or advancing as "overachieving".* So dont even try to start that in this thread.*If you have a comment about something pertaining to the other thread, please post it there.* Otherwise, show me where I stated MY OWN OPINION that I was impressed with anybody in my message?
  19. Yeah....The Pac 10 portion says Arizona playing well speaks to how underrated their conference really was?* Really?* 1 out of 6 teams advance to the Sweet 16?* By beating 2 mid majors at that....It also states about he Pac 10 that all the teams played close but when it comes to describing ACC teams they "overachieved".....Seems somebody that wrote this article has some sour grapes towards the ACC IMO...
  20. JJ and the_truth: It seems im not the only one that has heard the nickname Thuggins. It also seems im not the only one that can take an unbiased look at the stats and see Coach Huggins' tournament situation up to this point in his career. Why no rude/degrading slang terms for any of them? I suppose im the only one that is worthy of such labeling from you guys. Thanks for showing what WVU homers you really are and showing your class as posters as well. So much for intelligent conversation I suppose. The way you treat posters, mainly me, on this thread shows that maybe you arent that far removed from Bob Huggins. Makes since that you'd have such a stong reaction to someone talking about those character issues, since they may hit a little too close to home for you guys. What was intended to be an informative debate, including facts and statistics, articles, etc, you've managed to turn it into a mud slinging contest with people from your own area and on your own local board. Thanks again!
  21. K.T. Vandyke > Garrett Horne (KT had a crossover that was almost impossible to stop and was the one that took a backseat and stepped up when they needed him. His quickness was unbelievable. Garrett was asked to do more for his team from a scoring standpoint, but KT was every bit as capable of putting up numbers just like the rest of these guys.) Kent Goodman > Lucas Shortridge Logan Shortridge vs Hunter Simpson (This one is hard. Logan was more athletic and a better slasher with a good shot, Hunter isnt as athletic and wasnt as good off the dribble but probably shoots the ball a little better. Push if anything) Jeramiah Lester > Josh Smith (Lester got his team to the finals was was voted Single A player of the year BEFORE there were divisions.) Matt Baldwin > Beefy The 2005-2006 TV Panthers consisted of 4 1000 pt scorers. Not to mention Alex Vandyke coming off the bench. This debate isnt even close. This years team was a very good team but the 2005-2006 team was on a different level.
  22. I'd like for anybody to tell me where I ever said the man cant coach. I said that you better get used to early exits in the tournament because thats what Huggins is known for UP TO THIS POINT. Stats show that and back that statement up so you can get mad all you want. Its a fact UP TO THIS POINT. Do you think I made up the nickname "Thuggins" for Bob Huggins? He has carried that nickname for as long as I remember. It was given to him while he coached at Cincinnati due to his players "run ins" with the law and their extremely low gradutation rates. Sorry that I cant take credit for that but if you plan on trying to insult every person who has ever called the man "Thuggins" then you are in for a long long journey. Am I just here to stir it up? Is that really what you think? Should we all just agree with everything that is said, contribute no insight unless its supportive of WVU and their employees, or contribute comments that are supported by hard facts? Nobody has said Bob Huggins WONT turn things around and win at WVU. He just simply isnt going to win a title there IF HE DOES THE SAME THINGS THERE THAT HE DID AT CINCINNATI. Plain and simple. If you are happy graduating 25% of your players in a 10 year span, winning 25 games, and making the tournament every year then STATISTICS SHOW that he is the man for your program. But up to this point he DOES NOT have a good track record in MANY aspects of what a coach is responsible for. Arugue facts if you must but everyone that has read this thread that IS NOT a WVU fan is able to see that it isnt an attack on anybody. Its FACTUAL INFORMATION.
  23. Thats what I was thinking, but I wanted to make sure it wasnt just me seeing it.....
  24. I will be there with bells on! Unless I forget between now and then...which is very possible..lol
  25. Im still missing the point behind the Grungy comments? Should it bother me that I am from there? Is there any relation to Grundy and Coach Huggins? What is it? Since it keeps coming up, i'd really like to understand it. But just for good measure i'll add this article. It is from his KSU days, but pretty much portrays what WVU will be in for UNLESS Coach Huggins has a change of heart. http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/story/bob_huggins_just_win_baby
