  1. My system: 1. 16-team playoff. 2. 12-game regular season. 3. Eliminate 1 bye week. 4. Uniform start in August (that means you, Pac-10) and end in November (that means you, Big 10/Big East). 5. Conference title games-last Saturday in November. 6. Automatic bids to the Big 6 conferences and all undefeated teams. 7. Use the BCS points system for seeding at-larges.
  2. If any league can come back, I think the AFL will do it. The AFL's developmental league's still up-and-running, so the infrastructure's still there. I hate to see them fold this season, but I think they'll be back next season. I really do. And BTW, this should be a MUCH bigger story than it is.
  3. To be fair, the BCS represents about 12.5% of the bowl games the ACC is in, given that the ACC averages 8 bowl-eligible teams. I'm not kidding. But regardless, if we had people like BTail working at the BDT, I might actually not line the bottom of the birdcage with it.
  4. Two answers: 1. If there is a tie within the division, it goes to head-to-head first, then best winning percentage within the division second. Third would be best winning percentage in common games. 2. Miami is in that 3-way tie at 9-5 with the Jets and the Patriots. Miami has a head-to-head matchup with the Jets to knock them down a peg, so that's not too bad. The interesting scenario is with New England. Miami and New England split, so then we go to better records within the division. Assuming the Patriots beat the Bills, the Patriots would have a record of 4-2 against in-division foes. Miami would be 4-2 if they could beat the Jets. It would come down to their record against common opponents, and I'm not sure what that'd be.
  5. I've wondered this often myself. There were 3 years with 24''+ snowfalls in a row: '96, '97, '98. None since. Wouldn't you guys say we're overdue for one? ;)
  6. Bush handled it pretty well, all things considered. Whoever threw the shoes should be ashamed of themselves. That's a pathetic display.
  7. GREAT point! People often forget this. And all things considered, I think it was the right choice. Even though Tebow got the most 1st-place votes. That's an oddity.
  8. That's a fireable offense. Groh should be canned for that. I'm dead serious. You don't do that with a record-setting QB, absolutely no justification.
  9. Basically, this cures the symptoms and not the disease. Poindexter should've been the secondary coach all along, though, and I'm finally glad they got that one right. I'm a bit surprised at Belin's dismissal as well; certainly it can't be his idea to cling to the 3-4 system that's made our run defense look as soft as cotton candy. Also, I'm surprised at Pruett's "promotion" to associate head coach. He was finally starting to make some strides near the end of the season at DC. Do you realize that UVA didn't give up more than 30 the entire second half of the season? Just a series of random moves that delays the inevitable. It's all on Al Groh now. 1 more bad season, and it's his head next. I would've posted on this much earlier, but I'm right in the middle of exams. 2 down, 3 to go, at least!
  10. If you want to get down to the nuts and bolts of it, the BCS is on shaky ground with the Dormant Commerce Clause. You can make an argument, one that's not all too-farfetched that the effect of the BCS is discriminatory to certain states and prefers some states over others. Generally, this wouldn't be an issue. But when you throw in the $17M payday...
  11. The thing is, Bradford's had plenty of opportunities to get that "deer-in-the-headlights" feeling, and he hasn't done it yet. Even in the Texas loss, he played very admirably. He certainly didn't show it against Texas Tech, and he certainly didn't show it against Missouri. And I truly believe he won't show it against Florida.
  12. I believe this board seriously, seriously underestimates the power of Oklahoma's offense. Arguably the most prolific NCAA Division I offense of all-time, as it currently stands.
  13. I love it! And I'm SO glad the Braves got him over the Yankees.
  14. Agreed with this. It's a program UVA openly strives to emulate. And we're closing the gap. But a well-deserved congratulations to them.
  15. I'm sure flying 8+ hours the day before that game had nothing to do with it. ;)
  16. Not only did the make a statement, they're beating Florida. You heard it here first: Oklahoma Sooners, your 2008-2009 BCS National Champions. My early prediction: OU 38, UF 27.
  17. For the Hokie contingency here, I wouldn't mind it if it came down to this. ;) I believe a matchup with Cincinnati is the best shot the Hokies have. If not Cincinnati, then it would be an at large, and those would be: Texas, Alabama, Utah, Boise/OSU. I'd give them about a 5% chance at beating Texas or Alabama, a 10% chance of beating OSU, and about a 25% chance of beating Utah or Boise. I'd put the odds right around 40% for Cincinnati. I can't wait to see the spread for that game, though. I think it'd be around Cincinnati -4.5.
  18. It had to have been. I really think Cincinnati's going to win it. VT's record in bowl games has been less than impressive lately. 4-7 in their last 11. VT won the 2005 Gator Bowl, and that's been it since 2003. 1-4 in their last 5, not a very spiffy record. Winless in BCS games this decade, too, and it's not for a lack of getting there. Cincinnati-21 VT-17 That is, if it's actually Cincinnati/VT.
  19. The Tide sure rolled...right into a brick wall. I said Florida by 10, it was Florida by 11. Sue me. ;)
