  1. I'm not familiar with the situation, but this is good, universally-true speak.
  2. Voted! #4's getting far too much love, I believe.
  3. For UVA, the time to put loyalty aside and fire Groh was 2006. UVA had just come off a 5-7 season. The Hoos were exactly 12-12 in the previous two seasons, and had lost 4 games with a team that should've won the conference in the year before that. Al Golden and Ron Prince had left, like many assistant coaches before them. Any program worth its salt would've cut Groh right here, a coach in the 6th year of his contract who had done no better (and worse, if you look at career winning percentages) than his predecessor with FAR more than Welsh had when he got there. Especially with the donor base we have at UVA. I wrote a considerable amount more on this topic before the VT game, and I'll link it here for you guys: http://www.swvasports.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13641. This goes into bloody, laborious detail why UVA's in the shape it's in with regards to the revenue sports.
  4. Heck, were it me, I'd be grateful VT basketball's at least somewhat relevant again. That doesn't mean that Greenburg is the coach to take VT to the next level. However, he's given you a good place to start. He's a good Xs and Os guy, he shows a lot of fire, and he can recruit fairly well. Much of "playing to the level of their competition" rests squarely on the players' shoulders.
  5. Football players have too much machismo to uptake the NFL's offer of free security. Put another way, it's like giving a rich math whiz a TI-83, he "doesn't need it" because it's below his standards. And I'll reserve my full opinion until the evidence comes out as well. Suffice it to say that I wouldn't be at a place of quasi-ill-refute while making more than 99.9% of Americans, especially while on the NFL's version of sick leave.
  6. Same, from someone who played for him in two sports.
  7. Rosenhaus was the original slimeball. He was Boras before Boras was Boras. ;)
  8. This, exactly. For all those complaining about all the *bad playcalling*, the Hokies will be in Tampa next week. Give Stinespring a bit of a reprieve. It's not like you're 5-7 every other year. Of course, there are better people. But for goodness sakes, there are 5 other teams in the Coastal that'd rather be in your shoes right now. It reminds me of the final scene in "Liar, Liar" where the cheating wife wins $11.6M and still wants to fight over the custody of the kids. In short, it comes across as ingrateful.
  9. I was about 95% sure he was running. I don't think Stinespring's nuts enough to have him pass on 4th-and-1. *Add insult here*. Mike Groh, on the other hand, maybe.
  10. Obviously, he wasn't going to throw 20 times out of the Wildcat formation. UVA didn't throw 20 times the entire game. Hall threw twice. One resulted in pass interference. 1/2 isn't too bad, really, considering the circumstances. That's 50%... And to another point above me, it was debatable whether he'd play CB or QB. Sadly, UVA picked wrong. But UVA has had TWO DC changes since Hall came in. Golden-London-Pruett. That's not exactly the point you'd like to make, either. Really, it bolsters mine. It's a coaching carousel in Charlottesville. And Hall had a lot of fortitude putting up with it.
  11. Some people respond well to this sort of criticism. Not all, and not most, but some. That's just quibbling. But many aren't going to bottle up their opinions just for the sake of bottling them up. Especially when many are trying to predict the outcome of the game knowing absolutely nothing or next to it about Brookville, claiming that "experience" was enough. That's my point. Using rational data to counter questionable opinions was the reason most stated it in public, and it was the right thing to do, IMO. Agree to disagree, if we must.
  12. Perhaps because he committed to a program that had Bill Musgrave as its OC, not Mike Groh. Not only that, he signed very early, his junior year. There's a lot to be said for honoring your commitment, especially when the coaching staff's always a-changin' and even when they don't use you like you deserve to be used. He's got more integrity and heart than the vast majority of people, that's for sure.
  13. Both Grohs should be fired for that. That in itself is a fireable offense. Keep Pruett and Poindexter, fire the rest of them. And I apologize for 3 straight posts. I just have to get it of my chest.
  14. Yes, 0 passes, but the one was a TD without the pass interference...
  15. I screamed like a kid at Christmas when I saw #4 line up behind center. I literally just about broke down. I'm not freaking kidding you. FOUR LONG YEARS I waited to see that, and it was every bit as good as it should be. And he should be back there on snap 1 of the 2009 opener. Of course, you could slap Mike/Al Groh for putting a young man who hasn't played QB in 4 years behind center in the biggest game of the year, but it was brilliant. And it just about worked. TOTALLY caught the Hokies off-guard in the first drive. On his HUGE run, he was flat out gassed. Of course, Verica threw into double coverage while in FG range for the virtual game-ending INT. *And I even called it.* I saw the Singleback 3-WR set, and I say to my buddies: "Look for Ogletree in the slot, he's going to run a post." Ogletree ran his post. And I knew when Verica released it that it was a surefire INT. Vic Hall deserves every ounce of credit imaginable. Poor guy did everything Saturday. I'd have rather lost 49-0 than lose like that. Less heartbreaking that way.
  16. The token "guy I draft on my fantasy football team that ruins himself". Every year, without fail. ;)
  17. Vic Hall played like a damned hero Saturday. Absolutely put the team on his back. Scored both TDs, a FF/sack, led the team in rushing, etc. I swore that UVA wasn't going to make me believe that they had a chance Saturday. And they did, like usual. And they let it slip away. Usual. The Hokies torched UVA's defense. 390 total yards, and there should've been 10 more points on the board than there were.
  18. And the irony of it all, the cable went out at my parents' house with 3:30 to go in the Hoos/Hokies game.
  19. Tell me about it. :( Add me to the squad that forewarned this beating.
  20. Guys, I'll be away most of tomorrow, as I'll be at the UVA/VT game (near the UVA band, if anyone wants to hit me up; in fact, just ask the tubas, and they'll tell you where I am, haha). I'd just like to wish the Hokie contingency, and may the better team win. And safe travels, for those of you on the road.
  21. Best team ranking: 1. Florida 2. Oklahoma 3. Texas 4. Penn State 5. Alabama Where they should be now: 1. Alabama 2. Florida 3. Oklahoma 4. Texas 5. Penn State
