  1. $2.65 in central PA. FINALLY, the price of oil coming down. The only good thing about this financial situation: when the stocks drop, speculation drops, too.
  2. I felt that McCain was a bit desperate, while Obama was more cool/composed. But again, neither of them are very good orators, so it makes for a boring time, sadly.
  3. He'd really have to fire up those old SC contacts. He'd also be recruiting a different type of player than he would've been at Furman. 4-5* guys rather than 1-2* guys. He should be able to do well, but it'll be interesting to see how much rope Clemson would give him. Again, if Swinney doesn't turn them around. I see them either closing out this season VERY strongly or else spiraling out of control.
  4. I've already signed onto the "Al Groh to PERMANENT RETIREMENT" committee. ;)
  5. I agree with this analysis, but I do have one concern with Bobby Johnson. Clemson's backbone for years has been solid recruiting. Just how well can Johnson recruit? Sure, I'm sure we'd see an upswing when Johnson wins with Bowden's cast. But after that initial period, can he sustain the recruiting level that Bowden has? I have some doubts: it's a whole different world recruiting at Clemson than Vandy.
  6. I wonder if Blank believes in seventh or eighth chances? That's what we're at with Vick. At what point would the free passes Vick's received "in aeternum" be enough for people to leave him well-enough alone? It's all well and good that Vick's bench-pressing 300 pounds and throwing the football well. However, even if is able to come back, how will he readjust to game speed? Will he be able to make those shifty cuts on the fly like he used to? Will he be able to read his progressions properly after more than one season off? Will he even have the same drive to study game film? Far too many intangibles, IMO, for Vick to come back and be anywhere near as good as what he was. If he was even that good in the first place...
  7. Virginia Tech, by 3. It's how the seem to win every other ACC game!
  8. Thanks for digging that one up, my friend. I guess I had just exaggerated it a bit. ;)
  9. May I chair this "Bud Foster for Clemson Head Coach" committee? :D
  10. Didn't Ronnie Lott do this so he'd be able to play in the NFC Championship Game? Or is this just a rumor? Regardless, that's dedication to its highest degree.
  11. More recently than you think: Bo Pelini. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo_Pelini
  12. I thank you kindly! And I hope yours went well, too! I had my family in town for the weekend, and we destroyed Maryland. Was a fun weekend! And I thank you too, BigBlue!
  13. Exactly right. All the coulds-shoulds-woulds aside, Penn State's in if they don't choke their remaining 6 games away.
  14. How come Wade Phillips escapes in all this? I literally did a cartwheel the day Dallas hired him, because he's never proven that he's anything better than a mediocre head coach that drives programs into a downward spiral. In the long term, he's three times as big a problem as T.O. Mark my words.
  15. Virginia Tech Offensive Statistics, per the NCAA: Rushing: 40th; http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2008&rpt=IA_teamrush&site=org Passing: 113th; http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2008&rpt=IA_teampass&site=org Total offense: 107th; http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2008&rpt=IA_teamtotoff&site=org Scoring offense: 66th; http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2008&rpt=IA_teamscoroff&site=org Uh, yes, Virginia Tech doesn't utilize their talented offensive personnel enough compared to other Division I-A programs.
  16. I think you're right here. In fact, I'll go so far as to predict that neither of these teams are undefeated in two weeks. Schedule's too difficult...
  17. *Cough-unrealistic expectations-cough-not 1982 anymore-cough* Clemson fans/administration want and expect national titles. Frankly, had he won the ACC once, I still think this move's coming. But I do agree, with the talent Tommy has had, he should've at least won the conference once. He should've won it this year, frankly. There's a simple solution to this problem: DON'T EXTEND CONTRACTS BASED ON WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN! As long as he's not interposing losing seasons in the mix, let him fulfill the deal, and don't renew it.
  18. One of the litany of problems facing Dallas right now. I do hope Romo recovers, because I know how much it's eating at him. But hey, more time in Cabo, right?
  19. I'm not a big fan of Texas jumping Alabama, because Alabama's had an equally impressive, or perhaps even more impressive, slate of games to start this season. Likewise, I don't agree with USC jumping Texas Tech. USC beat a 2-4 Arizona State team 28-0. Not exactly a blowout, and it's not like Arizona State's been world-beaters this season. A personal preference: I would've bumped Florida over Oklahoma. You have a team that just beat the #3-ranked team in the nation, against a team that lost to the previous #5-ranked team in the nation. These are little quibbles. Below the top 10, everything looks fair.
  20. I must've included the last year of the Nehlen Era with that. My apologies. And I remember that 2002 Continental Tire Bowl well! :)
