I think you answered your own question to a certain extent. Most teams try to fill up their schedule with teams that are within a reasonable traveling distance. Sometimes that means scheduling schools that are much larger than you. Even schools in the same district sometimes vary alot in their enrollments. If you only have 5 or 6 teams in your district then that means scheduling a half dozen non district games. Sometimes filling up your schedule is difficult and that can lead to some long distance mis-matches. Maybe someone else will explain things alot better than I have. Good luck on getting a better answer. I've found out that if it doesn't involve Graham then you want get much response on this board.

With Fieldale Collinsville merging into Bassett High School the combined enrollment is over 1200 students. My question is, how can Bassett be a division 3 team? In my opinion the VHSL needs to quit letting all these schools dictate what division they want to play. They need to lay down some solid guidlines and enforce them. Some schools in our area have gone from 3A to 2A, back and forth numerous times. The VHSL needs to tell these schools that your enrollment is this,and so you will play in this 'A' grouping and in this division.

I guess the Graham, Magna Vista match up was just a big rumor. Ahh..... I am from the Martinsville area, just who are the Tigers?

Henry County usually does a good job a policing high school sporting events. They have plenty of experience at dealing with roudy people because of the Martinsville Speedway that sets only a few miles from Magna Vista. If they can handle 90,000 drunks at the speedway then a few thousand fans at a football game must be a piece of cake. I guess I should add that the guys who were fighting at the GW,MV were in handcuffs surrounded by Henry County deputies when we drove out of the parking lot. What you said about "enjoy the game and keep your mouth shut", is good advice for any game.

[/ QUOTE ] I went with a friend to a Magna Vista, GW Danville football game played at Magna V.. It was on a rainy foggy night and I didn't find their stadium to be very visitor friendly. Their stadium is down in a hole and you basicly had to walk down through their stands to get to the visitors side. They whipped GW Dan. 18 to nothing. On the way out a fight broke out in the parking lot between to boys! What it was over I don't know but I was glad to get the heck out of there. Death Valley would be a fitting name for MV's stadium. If Graham does play Magna Vista be sure and bring alot of fans because yall will need each other!

Maybe Graham is just too good of a team and nobody wants to play them! Sometimes having a powerhouse football program has its drawbacks. Martinsville was kicked out of the Piedmont District back in the late 70's early 80's because nobody in the district wanted to play them. Today Martinsville no longer has those back to back strong teams and its not to hard to fill up their schedule.

If the VHSL goes ahead and dumps the current 6 division setup for a 4A system, does anyone know what the school enrollment limits will be for each classification? I know North Carolina has a 4A system but I don't know the enrollment figures for each class. I wonder if VA's 4A system might be similar to Carolina's? Does anyone have any insight on this subject?

I read on another board that football schedules will be released by the VHSL around the first of July. I guess some teams are still in the process of completing their schedules for this coming season. I'm a Martinsville fan and I wondering who will replace FC and Laurel Park, who will be lost to consolidation. <font color="blue"> </font>

GW has replaced Graham with Magna Vista for this coming season. Probably because MV and GW are only about 30 miles apart. Laurel Park will merge with MV this coming year so the warriors should be even tougher. MV and GW should be a good match up.

I know the VHSL 'A' rating system has probably been dicussed at length on this board. But what are the chances that the VHSL might go to a 4A system instead of the current 3A 6 Div. setup they have now? Is the current system good are is there something better? Just curious for anyones thoughts on this. XDOG

With Laurel Park and FC High schools closing,I wonder if this could be the begining of the end for the Piedmont District? With only 6 teams left Tunstall and Dan River might descide to go back to the Dogwood District and maybe take Martinsville and Patrick Co. with them?
