  1. here's the latest : half & half, like R36 said, which you can't do in 50 minutes, so : 5:00 : Twin Valley - Jenkins 6:30 : Hurley - Phelps 8:15 : Grundy - East Ridge
  2. Oh, I LOVE the Div. 1-AA guys who did this. Check out the headline, read the last 4 bold paragraphs, and look at the vote. http://i-aa.org
  3. depends on who you ask. Last I heard was 5:30, but I also heard it was 3 VA vs. 3 KY. Seems Grundy & Hurley have heard diff. things. Check back Friday and maybe we'll know for sure.
  4. The Martinsville Bulletin said Bassett's Tim Miller, the AA runner-up at 189, took Dresser's scholorship offer to wrestle 197. He was also first-team Center in Region IV football last season.
  5. Stadium is on the WV side (saw somewhere one time that the state line runs through the tennis courts)... that's why the Beavers get first pick when both teams have home games the same weekend.
  6. Herald-Courier reports that JJ Kelly will also have a new coach http://www.tricities.com/tristate/tri/sports.apx.-content-articles-TRI-2006-08-01-0004.html
  7. The Herald-Courier says the Shepherds are going back down to the Highlands http://www.tricities.com/tristate/tri/sports.apx.-content-articles-TRI-2006-08-01-0006.html
  8. A SW VA high school coach was on TV at 6 talking about Summer practice and safety (water breaks, to be specific). About an hour later, Foxsports posts a story about one of his former players (now in the NFL) getting hurt while taking his physical and being placed on the "physically unable to perform" list. Guys, let me introduce you to a saying from a before-you-were-born cop show : "Let's be CAREFUL out there!" http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5822250
  9. Can't say as I have. Hard to get to games when you work on Friday nights. Come to think of it, I believe the last game I went to was up there - the 2003 Martinsville spanking. Had to see Bradshaw at least once. At the Bassett Jam, all the teams (except Bassett) play back-to-back.
  10. Taze. Co. could "tweak" the boundries and make all 3 SWD schools Group A sized.
  11. at least the fans will have a chance avoid concession-stand food ;-)
  12. Only heard of 1 other car hit before - it was parked near the Cassell 6 years ago.
  13. Don Ashby takes over at Pikeville College http://news.pc.edu/default.asp?mode=shownews&id=848 http://people.pc.edu/photos/ashby_don.jpg
  14. First draft has been posted (Adobe needed). Some discrepencies (like location, date) exist. 2nd version should be avail. in a couple of weeks. http://www.vhsl.org/fbratings.htm
  15. That's how it looks for 2007 & 8.
  16. Here's the deal : The 2 current Div. 2 teams that were approved to drop to Div. 1 (TW & Pound) will BECOME Div. 1 next year, giving then 11 (again). Div. 2 gains Lee, Va. High, Battle & Lebanon, giving them 11 also. But Lee's entry puts Coeburn, Clintwood, Haysi & Honaker in the "can petition down" catagory. So Div. 2 will have between 7 & 11, Div. 1 between 11 & 15. Dropping gets you out of having to play PV, Gate, Lee or Va. High in the playoffs, so I would go that route.
  17. Under the new realignment plan, both are staying AA. I'd have to think that's because both petitioned last year to "play up", meaning they'll be AA at least until Summer, 2009. But I'm not 100% sure on that. Honaker is Div. 2 in the new alignment - however, they are 1 of 4 schools that can petition to go to Div. 1 because they're less than half the size of Lee. The deadline to petition isn't until next Spring, so nothing can be said for sure until then.
  18. Martinsville Bulletin says Magna Vista hired Jacqulene Greene from Grayson County & Bassett "promoted" a PE teacher, Melissa Blair, who was an asst. at Laurel Park in the 90's.
  19. boys soccer team finished 19-2, but baseball (22-1) and softball (23-2) teams looking towards Radford. Guess some of the other kids wanted some attention, too.
  20. Softball coach sounded a bit bitter, but that rule that could be modified for the post-season. http://www.dailynews-record.com/sports_details.php?AID=4664&CHID=20
  21. Man, I about fell over when I read the M'neer today! First, Council has more Seniors this year than Hurley. Then I saw that Grundy's total is down to double digits! And the total for ALL of the county's public schools is almost exactly the size of my Sr. class... 226 this year. Unreal!
  22. Fowler Apts. fell today. Rife's looks like Monday - they're still working on the inside.
  23. Salem & Pulaski : welcome to Region IV! When you move in next Summer, you'll notice that 5 of the other 7 Reg. 4, Div. 4 teams played at least 1 Div. 1 or 2 team this season (only Hidden Valley & Bassett aren't)
  24. Cue up John Cougar - the walls are tumblin' (and crumblin') down! Central Auto fell yesterday, the Combs (Mountaineer) Bldg. today. Next up : Dr. Arnold's old office (CMCS), Dr. Berry's old house & Rife's Chevrolet.
  25. Go down past Shelbiana to 119 (the 4-lane), turn left towards Hazard, and go about 5 miles. The community is Robinson Creek.
