Giles hasnt been playing very good ball since their win over Blacksburg. They need to pull it together this week. GW will be a tough team for us.Our defense will be the best they have seen. This will be an interesting game.

C-burg outplayed us. Hats off to them. They usually come nowhere near stopping our offense. The have a fine team this year, and jumped on us early. I dont blame the single wing for that. Our defense gave up 43 points.

The single wing has been good to us as well. Its concept is completely opposite of the new formations. Its all about being physical and good blocking. A lot of people dont realize is that the way the single wing draws the whole defense up to the line, is exactly what its designed to do. If you are where you should be in you blocking schemes, and the team works well as a team, and gets there job done, you will have big play after big play. The single wing can be beutiful when it is clicking. You line up to a defense, that looks like there is no way you'll get a yard, and then its like you just bust whole in that defense. But if you play a real good team that feeds off momentum, the SW can be your enemy as well. Its usually not a comeback offense.

The reason I say that is because the defense can equal last years, and the backfield is much more explosive.Last year we had 2 solid backs, and 1 great back in Tanner. It made us more 1 dimentional. Sure we pushed most people around, and ran 5 plays over and over and still had our way, but in the state game we needed a little more. The line isnt as good, but is still very solid. We can strike the distance out of all 3 backfield spots this year, and that makes us more dangerous. Douthat(our starting TB,and fastest) can pass as good as I've seen in a while. He didnt dress out Friday, and we need him to be healthy. Beating Blacksburg was huge, and for us to be able to even do that says a lot about this team. The potential is there, but the chemestry hasnt gelled yet. Narrows is a little young yet, but we will know where we stand after the George Wythe game. C-Burg was excited, well prepared, and they just handed us our butts. Its probably good for us. It will make us tougher.

Christiansburg will suprise people this year. They have good speed, and their coach knows how to exploit a defense. We couldnt get anything going. Fumbled the ball on the 1st play of the game. At least 3 other snaps went out in space too. Missed tackles, blown assignments. You cant do things like this against good teams. We still have work to do. This team has potential to be better than last year.Good luck to both B-Burg and C-Burg the rest of the year. I still say B-Burg is the better team.

This is a toss up.I reaaly dont think there will be a tougher team than Blacksburg in the RiverRidge this year, but this is still a very dangerous game for us. The have nearly as much speed, and usually play hard. Blacksburg plays better Defense. Hopefully we can make it 2-0 against our AA rivals. We have to play even better this week, and have a better 1st half. We have to be the aggresser and set the tempo. C-Burg is too dangerous to have to play catch up.

That game nearly did us all in. These Blacksburg games are tough for us, and they have you on the edge of your seat. It really makes us a better football team. They had a lot more speed than us, and they know how to use it, but our attitude really impressed me. Hopefully this big win wont affect our attitude in preparing for C-burg. They are dangerous as well. Good luck Friday. Campbell and Richlands both may be down a mark from normal, but its early yet. Thats why it has to be proven on the field.

Cody Journell is a junior. He also did well at wingback, and as a DB in the secondary. An all around athlete. The heart that this team has really showed in this game. Blacksburg was striking early and often. Their speed was awsome. They were playing great defense, and were as good as advertised. I dont know what Ragsdale did, but after halftime, we found a few weaknesses, and tweaked some blocking schemes, and pounded the football. Our offense was only slowed down once in the second half, and that was self inflicted. Our backfield is hard to contain with several backs with big play capability. We will be a little more versitile this year. Our defense did well after they settled down. Its a shame someone had to lose this game. A real classic. Blacksburg has the team this year. They could win the title if they contiue to improve. This game with us only makes them better. They have a great coaching staff. We will be routing for you the rest of the year.

Good luck with Campbell next week. They are very fast, but what impresses me most about them is their dissapline. They have a very well coached program. Their coach is a little cocky, and has been contoversial at times, but he still knows his stuff. Should be a good game. Yall have a tough schedule, just like us. That makes you get better fast.

Gavin Lee did good for Giles. He and Sheldon Douthat alternate at Tailback. Lee also had some wicked hits on defense. The single wing has promise if its coached right. It all comes down to blocking, and tough backs. Ragsdale is one of the best coaches in Va, and Giles has beaten many teams with far more talent, by just playing good sound smashmouth football. JM is doing the same. They usually lose to far superior teams, Weir, Bluefield 04, 05, but lookat their record over the last 4 or 5 years. It would help if the coaches all pulled together and worked as a team, and the little league, and middle schools would do the same, but it will never happen. Our kids know single wing from pee wee ball on up. And all the coaches in the whole system wouldnt run anything else.

They were running mostly a 5-3, but thats not going to be their typical defense. That was probably just for Giles. Robertson was Tailback, Mann was Blocking Back, Tincher might be hurt, I'm not sure, and I dont know the fullbacks. The line is big, but they need to work on their speed, and staying on their blocks. You'll have a better idea after the Narrows game. We have several issues as well, but I thought we looked good, for only having 1 week of practice in pads. We scrimmage Hidden Valley, and Chatham Friday, so we'll see. That should help us try an get ready for possibly the biggest, baddest, Blacksburg team ever.

I think Richlands looked like the best team. You can see they have. Its early, and they were a little sloppy, but with a defense like they have, and the talent on offense, when it all comes together they will be a force.

I wouldnt say that. Giles very well could be the best you see all year. They have a veteran defense that is going to be hard for anyone to run against. The offence looks like we have several weapons, including a deep passing threat for those 7 and 8 man fronts. I watch a lot of football, I saw Bluefield today, fast, and talented, but not overly impressive (yet). Graham, to me looked pretty good. Lots of heart. Mt View looked bad, and their players didnt seem intersted in the game at all. JM should be okay. Maybe not like last year, but trust me you wont run into another defense like this years Giles defense.

Its hard to tell what level the 2 teams are at. JM had trouble moving the football today, but Giles returns nearly the whole defense from last year. Giles Offense is a little rusty, but overall they looked good. The power running game was good, the reverse was good, and the passing was good. The score was 21-0, but I think JM will still be okay after a few games.
