  1. I don't understand why everyone uses Morgantown as an example of a team that has been dominant forever. They have built a dynasty but that is because of great coaching and dedication in the weightroom. Princeton has the athletes to have a good team but the coaching is terrible. I remember a few years back when they had Will Albin and Anthony Hayes and defeated Parkersburg South who was #1 at the time in AAA and then lost early in the playoffs.
  2. The state of WV does not need 4 divisions for football. They hardly have enough schools to have 3 divisions. Bluefield would have had a chance to win the AAA state championship in 97 because that was one of the best football teams I've ever seen in AA along with the 98 Weir team. However, the 2004 team would not have won a state title in AAA. Morgantown was statistically one of the most dominating team in WV HS football history winning every game by at least 24 points. I'll even admit that Weir wouldn't have been able to beat Morgantown in 2004 and Weir and Bluefield were evenly matched and the two best teams in AA that year.
  3. Weir and Bluefield will be on the Island in December.
  4. 1. Bluefield 2. Weir 3. James Monroe 4. Wayne 5. Grafton 6. Mt. View 7. Tolsia 8. Magnolia 9. Keyser 10. Logan Bluefield is the preseason #1 team, because most of their team is back from last year where they made it to the state title game. However, I think Weir has a great shot at winning another state championship in 2006. They return Taflan, Perri, Flinn, Frankos, Buffo, Rasicci, Brogdon, and Davidson from last year's team. They also have a lot of sophomores that have only lost one game in three years and their defense didn't give up any touchdown's last season as 9th graders. James Monroe should also have a good football team next year and Wayne will make the playoffs again.
  5. Yeah I did have a lot of friends on the 2004 team, and two of them are here at WVU playing football. You say that Bluefield fans have class, but you talk about kids in HS having their dreams taken away because of a coach. I guarantee that the Bluefield seniors would have been acting the same way if they would have lost. The funniest thing I've ever seen was the look that Coach Simon had in the second half when they couldn't stop Weir from scoring TD after TD.
  6. Because two of my best friends were on the team and I'm proud that they won a state championship. I was mad when they lost in 2004, but the loss had no effect on me because I wasn't a player on the team.
  7. What don't you understand. Saying wide left doesn't bother me because I was a freshman in college in 2004. Who is the 2005 State Champions? That's right, Weir.
  8. Weir caught a couple of bad breaks and lost both games in 2 OT's in 2003 and in an OT in 2004. Weir might have lost to Bluefield, but they are still the 2005 State Champions in football and until next December, they will be the defending State Champions after a 40-0 win over Bluefield.
  9. BluefieldRocks, you don't own anyone and I'm just about tired of you running your mouth. I didn't start anything on here but you continue to talk smack. Bluefield didn't show their rings? That's funny because last year when I went to the Bluefield/Westside game, I saw all the Bluefield football players with their jerseys on and most of them were showing their rings off. A couple of the football players saw that I had a Weir shirt on and made it known that they had won a state championship. BluefieldPT, did you win a state championship? The funny thing is that people from Bluefield say when the Bluefield football team wins a state title, the whole city and school wins a state title. Then you say I'm trying to live through the accomplishments of my friends. Well considering they were former teammates of mine and I am a resident of the city of Weirton, I guess I can celebrate them winning a state title.
  10. Who is us? Did you play football from 03-05. Do you have a state title ring. I'm happy my friends won it this year, but don't act like you guys smacked us in either 03 or 04. Like I said, Weir could have easily won the state title in either year.
  11. The only time I was ever really mad about a loss was in 03. In 04, it just bothered me that Weir was the better team and they had the state title taken away from them by a coach. Weir athletics has just as much success as Bluefield athletics. When was the last time you won a baseball state title, or even made it to Charleston? I don't want to hear Bluefield isn't a baseball school either.
  12. He said that Bluefield was tied for the most AAA state titles. I stated that Parkersburg has the most AAA state titles. Weir's athletic accomplishments aren't close to Bluefield's athletic accomplishments? Football State Titles Bluefield-8 Weir-7
  13. You are going to base your opinion of Weir from two coaches that aren't even from Weirton? I am not trying to start a fight or even argue, but all I'm going to say is that the Bluefield student section is lucky they didn't say anything back to Josh Smith and I'm being serious. I'm not trying to say Weir kids are tougher than kids from Bluefield, but noone in that student section would have been able to do anything about him talking smack. I'm not mad anymore that I didn't win a state championship in high school. I just don't like Bluefield, other than a few friends that I know from there. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you're not tied for the most state titles in football in AAA. Parkersburg has the most AAA football titles in the state of WV.
  14. I didn't say Weir would make it back to the state title game, but you have to admit you got lucky this year. You were in a much weaker bracket. Herbert Hoover lost, and you had to play James Monroe to get to the state title game. I mean, that isn't much of a challenge. Just remember it could have just as easily been Weir in the state title game from 03-05.
  15. He lost once against Bluefield in 2004 where he rushed for over 100 yards and he won a state title against Bluefield in 2005. He's a great RB who had Quincy Wilson in shock with such a great game on the Island. Also, you can run your mouth on here but I know for a fact that it wouldn't be a good idea for you to say anything to Smitty in person. Why would he still be worried about losing in 2004. He got a chance to win a state title in 2005 and accomplished that goal and went out with a win over Bluefield. If everyone from Bluefield is so tough, why didn't anyone say anything to him when he was in their student section? I know that the Weir student section wouldn't have let that happen if someone from another school came over talking smack.
  16. I really could care less about Bluefield anymore. When they won in the basketball game last week, I was upset because I had friends on Weir's team but most of those guys got their state championship in football this past year. After we lost in 2003, I was upset for a long time because I thought we could win the state championship and it sucked to lose as a senior like that. Last year, I was mad because I think Weir should have won against Bluefield but some of the Weir coaches made a mistake that cost them a state title and I thought that the seniors on that team deserved a state title. Now, I've gotten over Bluefield winning at football in 03 and 04, but it bothers me that most of their fans think they are the most dominant football program in WV HS football history and their basketball team only loses because of the officials.
  17. Herbert Hoover will be the team to beat in AA next year. I do respect Bluefield but you act like you are so dominant. Weir has one less state title then you do in both football and basketball and has four more state titles than you in baseball. This year, Weir would have done a lot better against Morgantown then Bluefield did and I think they would have gave Morgantown a better game in 2004 too. Don't you also lose Payne due to ineligibility? Powell and Ponder you do return along with the FB but that's pretty much it. Weir might not be back next year, but they will be a great team the two years after that. This freshmen class is one of the best in recent years at Weir. They have only lost one game since they've been together as a team with the Weirton Steelers through middle school and freshman football.
  18. "Yea I thought it was pretty funny...Some players walked up to us in the mall and flashed there ring and we were with 4 players from last year that flashed ours back" You showed "your" rings or the football players you were with showed "their" rings? I like how students at Bluefield think they wins when the team wins the state title.
  19. Let me just say this, Bluefield fans don't have all this class as you say and I know plenty of kids from Bluefield and Princeton at WVU and they all say that the Steptoes were constantly in trouble. They think they're intimidating but when the one walked by me and tried to stare at me last year at the state tournament with Perdue and I was by myself, he definitely wasn't scaring me. Bluefield didn't know who Smitty was? I hope they would because he ran for 200+ yards and 2 TD's against them. Also, noone in Bluefield's student section would want anything to do with Smitty in a fight. He's a good friend of mine and he says what he wants basically because he can. Powell would have been in some trouble if he would have went after him, which I know he didn't so don't lie. And beaverbaseball, you are lucky you didn't go after him. That's all I'm going to say.
  20. With Thompson and Stepheson at UNC next year, will either of them start. I know Wright, Ellington, and Lawson will probably all start, but what about Thompson and Stepheson?
  21. Wheeling Central only has about 300-400 less kids than Weir and they recruit. Also, Bluefield's domination? I wouldn't call one state title since 1997 domination. Morgantown has 4 state titles since 2000 and is something like 78-4 since then. You have gotten to the Island four straight times, but you've only won the state title once. Don't forget, Weir was one of the teams that beat you and it was 40-0. You act like Bluefield dominated Weir when they played. When Weir lost to Bluefield in 03 and 04, it was by a combined score of 8 points in 3 OT's. I'm just stating a fact that Bluefield can't hang with Morgantown.
  22. "Yeh, you're right to, VA isn't a HS football hotbed...I guess that's why guys like Paterno, Bowden, etc..., waste their time recruiting the state. I guess we should email them directions to Morgantown HS, it would save them a lot of time and trouble..." When did I say there wasn't D1 talent in VA? I said the teams aren't as good as you think they are. Washington, DC has a lot of individual talent, but their teams aren't good at all. Also, Bowden has Morgantown's address. They're recruiting a player from Morgantown. So you're suggesting bluefield, with so many returning players who are going to be a year more experienced and not sophomores aren't going to be as strong, or am I misreading that somehow? That said, I was serious. "As for morgantown and what they've accomplished in wv aaa, while they've had a strong program, aaa in wv is much the way a is in wv, hardly any real contenders for the title and only a few strong teams, aa is really the only overall competitive classification in wv sports, for football and basketball. They have a very respectable program, but not the caliber it is in your opinion. Besides, bluefield doesn't simply schedule according to what teams they're certain they could defeat, the way so many other teams in wv aa does. And va is actually a known high school football state more so than you obviously know, you might read up on the # of college prospects and pro players from eastern va.." Bluefield wasn't that good this year to begin with, so after losing a lot of their best players to graduation or ineligibility for next year, no I don't think they'll be a better team. There's only a few strong teams in AAA every year? Are you serious? Someone said that the 2004 Bluefield team was the best in WV in any division. That's definitely a false statement. They shoudln't have even been in the AA state championship game. Morgantown beat the same Martinsburg team you struggled with by 25 points or so and that's after taking out their starters early in the fourth quarter. Like I said, Morgantown is ranked in the nation and in the northeast so they should get more respect then they're getting on this board. After this year, they will have had 11 football players sign D1 LOI and for a WV HS that's pretty good. But again, getting back to the original topic, Bluefield couldn't stay within 30 points of Morgantown next year and that's a fact.
  23. "Yeah yeah yeah, you finally beat us on your third try with umpteen seniors after we lost 18 starters off our championship squad. Congrats. But you have a ways to go before you can claim any bragging rights on us. If you look at this nice little rivalry that has developed between us, you have to admit we have the upper hand. We beat you in the tournament, and now 3 out of 4 times. So accept that we have the bragging rights for the time being with class." Yeah, Bluefield has beaten Weir in football more times than we have beaten you guys but I'll never change my mind about this, in 2004 Weir was 14 points better than Bluefield. If Weir would have had Eric Meek as their head coach, Weir would have three peated from 03-05. "I liked upstate how after we beat Weir every Weir fan at the mall walked by me and said 40-0...My only response was "wide left" and look who's in the championship game..They can brag about there championship this year..but we still have the overall bragging rights" I highly doubt you said anything, and even if you did I don't know why you would. Your sport is baseball and Weir would smack Bluefield in baseball any year they played. Also, where were you when Smitty(#33) came over and stood in front of the Bluefield student section talking smack and showing everyone his ring? I know for a fact noone said a word to him and that was smart of you guys.
  24. "BTW, if that kid that got T'd up is a senior this year, he's 1-3 vs. Bluefield for his career...all three of those losses were bigger heartbreakers than his one victory over Bluefield...he'll have to live with that fact the rest of his life..." Actually, you're wrong. He didn't play football in 03. That's what makes him being selected First Team All-State in football so impressive. He totally embarrassed everyone in Bluefield's secondary, much like Eric Turner did in 03 only this time Weir smacked Bluefield. He is a state champion in two different sports and a First Team All-State Selection in both football and baseball and a First Team All-Tournament selection for baseball, so I don't think he's worried about the losses to Bluefield. "Agreed, he just got OWNED!!" I know you're not talking again. You don't play sports so you can't talk smack. You got owned plenty of times over on TSP.
  25. What Morgantown has to do is beat every AAA team in the state of WV, which they do on a yearly basis. They haven't lost a game since 2003. They could compete with those teams. VA is not a state you usually think of when you talk about HS football. The states that are at the top of HS football are CA, TX, FL, OH, and PA. All those teams you listed couldn't compete with De LaSalle, Long Beach Poly, Cincinatti Colerain, Canton McKinley, Massilon, St. Thomas Aquinas from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Dallas Carter, etc. Getting back to the topic though, Bluefield would get thoroughly embarrassed by Morgantown. Like I said, they should stick to scheduling someone else because they would get smacked.
