In 1996 the district championship was decided at the Cliff. Haysi beat Hurley 7-6 and Haysi was a big underdog, but the Rebels got them back in a rematch in the first round playoffs 18-6. yeah this is the first time this game has meant anything sice 1996. 1992 was the last time Hurley won the district and the beat Haysi something like 30-6. This will be the first time this game has meant anything to either side since 1996.

I agree with you Lance, but to get the run going hurley will have to be able to throw it. If they put 8 or 9 in the box it would be hard for Barry Sanders to have running room against this defense. Haysi has a very good defense and Hurley must be balanced. Haysi is a very good football team I think they are in the top 5 in southwest virginia. I think for Hurley to win this game they must play great defense. The best team Hurley has played so far is Big Creek so this will be the biggest test by far. Lets Do It

I feel ya on that man. Its definately not been a great week of practice for the Rebels. We also just lost one of our starting linebackers for this week because of a suspension from school. He got into a fight at school. Again when we think things are going well, we are gonna get smacked in the mouth. They never think of the position they put their team in when they do stupid things. 5-0 and they act like they dont even care. They would rather beat somebody up i guess. Its just frustrating when you lose a player and you have to move people out of their original position to fill some gaps. So all I got to say Rebels is you better give it your all this week.

Those scores dont mean nothing.....Castlewood is a tough team. The beat twin valley like a drum. I think the loss of josh childress might be crucial in this game for the rebels

Castlewood will be a tough game for us. It wont be easy. Proabably the best team we have faced so far.

He has played against 5 teams already and averaging nearly 200 yards a game....Hey Hurley is also a small school...Who do you want us to play.....Richlands, graham and gate city. Hurley's opponets included: Unaka: 2-3 Montcalm: 5-1 only loss coming to hurley Ervington: 1-4 Big Creek: 3-2 Thomas Walker: 0-4 All of them have a bigger enrollment than Hurley

they are 4-0. I know but everybody says they havent played anybody but they have played 4 teams. Shane Justice is definately in the top 2 backs around. I think he is leading Southwest virginia. He is averaging about 12 yards a carry. Enough said

the last time hurley started 3-0 was in 1996. Matewan was their fist loss the 4th game. In 1992 the rebels started out 5-0.

Yes they did look good. Hurley was just out manned tonight and lucky they got away without any seriou injuries....Appy was able to perform better in the heat having about 35 or 40 ballplayers to hurley's 21. Appy looked alot stronger than they did last year. The rebels hung in there with them last year but this year they were just too much for hurley....I think appy will give gate city all they can handle.....Look for appy to be contending for that lpd title.

I like marcums's style of running myself but personaly i dont think he is in th top three backs to come out of grundy. I know he might not have the line scammell had but Grundy also plays weaker opponets now. They dont play matewan, Iaeger, mt. view....Competiton was also better in the past in all area teams i think.....Its hard to compare but i think the talent level has gone down in all area schools the past 5 years. 1 Cary perkins 2 David Scammell 3 tim rutherford 4 jason lester 5 garon marcum

Garon is a good running back dont get me wrong but he is not up there with Scammell. I dont know what kind of record he is close too but he will have to get over 2000 to break the single season rushing record and i dont think he has the line for them type of numbers.

One of the best games was between Grundy and Hurley at the Cliff in 1994 in overtime when Crigger hit jonathan keen in the back of the endzone on 4th down and Grundy won 26-20. The Cliff was packed out.
