  1. He may have the title of English teacher but how can you "teach" a class when you either (1) walk in, give a reading assignment and walk back out or (2) sit on your cell phone the whole period. Another example of things he is allowed to get away with because he is not accountable to anyone for his actions. As parent of a child who has gone through his class, I could go on and on, but I won't. Bottom line is that he and those persons employed within the Tazewell County School system that are allowing this, all need to go - period!!! I am so looking forward to the next election.
  2. The petitions are in circulation now. I urge everyone that is a Tazewell County resident over the age of 18 to sign this before the 12/13 school board meeting. If you do not know anyone that has one, send me a message and I can put you in contact with someone. Take a stand people for the sake of our children. There is strength in numbers!!!
  3. O'neal was the one that had previously said that Graham had rec'd 60% of the gate for the Princeton game. It was stated in the meeting last night that he was asked to provide proof of that but it never has been shown.
  4. About 30 people showed up tonight and will address the school board at the meeting on 12/13. Alot of things that I was already aware of as well as things that I was not aware of was discussed at the meeting. For instance, it was mentioned that a local buisnessman asked Marrs about giving up the home game to Princeton and he said his family comes first and for the next four years while his son is in college there will be no Saturday games. It was also mentioned that some of the boosters were told by O'Neal that they better not show up at the meeting tonight. So many people in the community are wanting change but dont want their child to have to deal with the consequences of the parents stepping up. We all need to make our voices heard. If we all stand up then the school board will have to eventually listen. They can either listen or we can put someone in there that will. An individual said tonight that the board needs to realize that we are their boss - they are not ours. Everyone in attendance is all in agreement that this is not about the number of wins and losses. It is about the treatment of the kids. It was said that some players on this years undefeated middle school team will not play if Marrs is still around next year. Do we really want a man in a position where he calls all the shots for the athletic programs that does not have the best interest of the kids or the school at heart and do we really want a teacher in our school that gave his class an assignment of writing a suicide letter to their parents??? This man has complete control and he knows it. He is not accountable to anyone - but then again why would you be accountable when you have the principal and the school board in your back pocket. A petition is being drawn up and I urge everyone that is a Tazewell County resident to please sign this once it is circulated. There is power in numbers and our kids deserve better.
  5. This needs to be made public in every way, shape, and form there is. I know I will do my part to get the word out. Our kids deserve better!!!

  8. Congrats G-Men!!!! Way to finish the regular season!!! You guys turned things around and this 4-6 record after an 0-5 start shows the heart and character of the team. Best of luck in the playoffs!!!
  9. Congrats G-Men!!!! Keep up the good work!!!
  10. Fact is there will never be another Coach Carlock - we all can agree on that. He not only "coached" the kids, he "mentored" them. In some cases, he was the father that some kids never had and he is still very much missed by many in this community. I for one was not pleased with the decision to make Marrs coach, simply because I never liked him in school, but I put my opinions of him aside and tried to give him a chance. As we all see though, something has got to change. GHS football is no longer GHS football. The pride that once was there is gone. Someone commented that it is just the talent level of the kids these days and referred to the loss by GMS last week to Bluefield. I have watched some of those GMS kids in little league for years and in my opinion it is not a talent issue. There are also some very talented kids in little league right now. The best of coaches can take the least talented kids, teach them the fundamentals, instill in them the desire to achieve, be proud and give it their all. That doesn't mean that by doing this you create a state championship team year after year, but at least the kids can come away from a loss with their head held high knowing they did their best. Changes need to be made for the sake of our future kids. Wake up TCSB!!!!

  19. http://hamptonroads.com/node/521158 Two Virginia Tech students were found slain Thursday at a Jefferson National Forest campground that is popular among students, authorities said. The killings are hitting a campus still reeling from the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history in 2007 and the beheading of a student earlier this year. Classes for the fall semester began Monday. The bodies of David Lee Metzler, 19, of Lynchburg and Heidi Lynn Childs, 18, of Forest were found by a passerby, Montgomery County Sheriff Lt. Brian Wright said. It appeared both had been shot, he said. Wright said Metzler's body was inside a car in the parking area of the Caldwell Fields campground, and Childs' body was outside the car. The campground is about 15 miles from Virginia Tech's campus in Blacksburg. A suspect had not been identified, and autopsies were being conducted in Roanoke. Metzler was majoring in industrial and systems engineering, and Childs was a biochemistry major. Both were sophomores. In an e-mail to students and staff, Virginia Tech President Charles Steger again was counseling his campus community. Two years ago a student gunman killed 32 students and faculty members and himself. In January, a doctoral student beheaded a fellow graduate student in a campus cafe. "Trauma like this is deeply painful to us all," Steger wrote. "Once again, this community is visited by senseless violence and tragedy upon aspiring young minds from our campus. "I know that many of you likely have complex feelings about now. How can this happen in this area, at this time, to this community?" Steger said the university would post information about memorial services on its Web site
