  1. Lets hope their enrollment allows them to drop
  2. Theres not really a central figure. I was in favor of Colley-Mullins. The last names of the countys 2 original settlers Richard Colley and John Mullins, w/ a name like the Trailblazers, just a thought. I kinda like Ridgeview. Pinewiew would have also worked, from where the school will sit it will have a great view of Pine Mtn. I also liked River Ridge, even though it copies the District. That is the geography of DC
  3. Believe it or not that type of thing was a big factor in not calling the school Dickenson County
  4. I completly understand TCSB wanting to keep all of the countys schools together, Dickenson Co has 3 schools in 3 different districts(rediculious) the same is true for Russell Co. What im saying is if Richlands #s arent down to A what if Tazewell droped to open the door for Richlands to drop. And of course TCSB cant say "Tazewell is droping so Richlands can be awarded a travel hardship" Does that make sense? I know they both want to drop at the same time, but what if they cant? Is the TCSB smart enough to manipulate the system to make it happen? I wouldnt consider this sort of move cheating in any way because Richlands is basically an A school
  5. another cool name, Langley Saxons Heritage Pride. I dont know about that one
  6. In the paper yesterday a solution has been worked out for the DCSB to secure the property necessary to build the new HS while allowing the elderly couple to keep their home, although they will have to sell most of their property. The new school is now expected to be opened by the 2014-2015 school year. Im also hearing Ridgeview as the new schools name. I like it mainly because I dislike the County school names (Grayson Co, Carroll Co, etc) and because I hate names like Central. Central where?
  7. Openly Tazewell would be droping w/o Richlands but behind closed doors it would just be done to help Richlands move down. With them being so close(or already there) it shouldnt be hard to secure a hardship. I know alot of people in Tazewell Co wouldnt like it but it would probably work
  8. Ok this is completly hypothetical and probably wont happen. What if the next cycle comes around and Richlands isint down to A numbers, if Tazewell drops to A(their enrollment is 663) that would leave only Richlands, Abingdon, Marion and Carroll in the SWD. Marion could also drop(they are right on the bubble and probably small enough to do it) thus only leaving 3 teams in the SWD. Could Richlands then apply for a travel hardship since they would potientially be moved to the Blue Ridge? This assuming nothing else changes on this end of the state but someone did mentioned Grayson Co(I think) possibly moving up and Pulaski moving to the SWD
  9. My understanding was that Lee didnt want to be involved in a new LPD. Your the authority on Lee athletics so I believe what you say. The 4 districts I outlined would be a very good setup for all of the schools
  10. Leave the Honey off and IMO youve got a great mascot!
  11. Two schools would work, I just dont see the need. I mean Richlands and Graham have pretty centralized student bases, Tazewell is a little more spread out but not really. It just makes more sense to keep 3 schools, provided enrollment doesent drop or the county loses funding
  12. I like it! I just dont see Tazewell Co consolidating
  13. My bad on the misspellings. I knew it was Poca, just a typo. I think I knew it was Musselman, I just got mixed up w/ the school being in Inwood.
  14. Hurley and TV are in a tough position. I would like to see Castlewood join the BDD, I dont know that Castlewood would want that but it would work better for balancing the districts and put them in the same district as Honaker. I dont like DC in the BDD because DC will be around 700 students and thats just not good for competition, DC would be about 3 times the size of TV and Hurley, and about twice the size of Honaker Cumberland - Tom Walker, Rye Cove,Twin Springs, and JI Burton BDD - Castlewood, Honaker, Hurley and TV That would leave the larger schools to form two districts, SWD - Richlands, Grundy, Tazewell, VA High, JS Battle, Graham and Lebanon LPD - Lee, Gate City, WC1, WC2, WC3 and DC. Lee probably wouldnt like that but when faced w/ travel to Richlands, Tazewell and Bluefield the move would almost be forced There are dozens of possibilities and who knows what will eventually work out
  15. The BDD has been doing it with 4. Grundy also may look to join the new LPD, geographically not a great fit but size/sports wise much better than a BDD with Hurley, Honaker and Twin Valley
  16. Leemen is nice! Thats what im talking about, 1 of a kind
  17. I also like Lonesome Pine Trailblazers. I doubt the LPD will break up. It will still have the 3 WC schools and Clintwood, which will become DCHS. Maybe add Lee and thats a very solid district, all around not just football. As I understand it Lee doesent want to change districts so it could work with 4 schools
  18. Just some cool ones from VA Arcadia Firebirds Chincoteague Ponies(named for the wild pomies over there) Colonial Beach Drifters Hampton Crabbers King George Foxes Grafton Clippers Poquson Bull Islanders Bluestone Barons From WV Inwood Applemen (named for the apples grown in the region) Man Hillbillies Paca Dots(greatest mascot ever) Here is a neat website that relates to this topic http://www.tekonsha.k12.mi.us/scaa/teamnames.htm
  19. For Coeburn/St Paul I was in favor of Crusaders or Paladins, formerly the schools were the Knights and Deacons, so just a simple combination of those two I like Cougars, Hawks, Pirates(I know it doesent fit geographically but it is a cool mascot that is easy for a student body to get behind), I really like Wolfpack(DCs new mascot), Black Birds, Highlanders, Trailblazers(a spin on Pioneers), Turtles and Storm(blue, red, scarlet or whatever) Miners gets tossed around alot but I dont like it. Lumberjacks would be apporiate for DC but no one likes it. I also dont like anything that is gender specific i.e. Bucks Bulls. My personal local favorite are the G-Men (1 of a kind). Nobody locally goes w/ a color like The Reds or The Blues(Richlands kinda does but not really) and I really like it

  21. You're right on. Clintwood/JI Burton will have a tougher time earlier in the playoffs, but they will be on a level playing field if they are able to make it to the finals. No more stacked deck. And no offense to GW or Radford but they are no better than the teams from Reg B that C/JIB were playing in the state finals.
  22. Me either, but warriors wont fly because JJ Kelly is the Indians. So they may end up being the Panthers. Is Panthers justt he default mascot for consolidated schools? Atleast be a little different and go w/ Cougars
  23. I like Powell River, Western Valley or something to do with Powell Mountain and Black Mountain(the mountains above the respective towns)
  24. It goes into effect this upcoming season. From what I understand the first Wise County consolidated school has been named; the Coeburn/St Paul school will be Eastside Spartans, Green, Black and Silver The popular name/colors/mascot for JJ Kelly/Pound is Central and either Warriors or Panthers w/ a Red/Black color scheme. No word on Powell Valley/Appalachia
  25. Honaker will do well early in the playoffs but unless they improve back to where they were in the early 2000s then they are no serious contender. GW and Radford on the other hand, well they are the real deal and either could be state champs in the near future! I also cant wait to see the former D1 schools(like Buffalo Gap) have to play schools their own size
