  1. Thanks and keep it comming St. Charles closing in the 70s explains why I missed them. Where were GW Carver and Drewry mason located and what became of them? Closed Consolidated and what schools did they merge with? Im really into local history and I find the way our current schools developed to be espicially interesting. Schools just mean so much to the local communities and are the face of the community. I know in Dickenson county the town police cars had school colors and mascots on them.
  2. Could have thrown seam to the TE to back the OB off but your right the power option would have worked
  3. I really look forward to seeing what Palmer can do with more kids to work w/
  4. Oh yeah, I never get those schools right. Any Idea on mascot or colors?
  5. I was curious about what schools are former consolidations, I know if you go far enough back all high schools were formed from the consolidation of old 1-2 room school houses. Im concerned with the "modern"(I guess that is the right way to put it) schools that were consolidated. I know Powell Valley, Northwood, Lee High, Twin Valley and Carroll County are consolidated schools but are there any others locally. Also what were the mascots and colors of the schools that were closed? Any general info would also be nice, i.e. what sport were they known for, any state titles or anything interesting. Also schools that were just closed i.e. Pocahontas. And please designate between Yellow and Gold(pet peeve of mine) if applicable, thanks I know some info, Powell Valley - Big Stone Gap Buccaneers and East Stone Gap Tigers(I think) but I dont know school colors. I think East Stone Gap was a Black school and Big Stone was a White school Twin Valley - Garden Green Dragons Green/yellow, Whitewood Indians maroon/white(I think) Northwood - Saltville Shakers, Rich Valley Lee High - Keokee Mountaineers(?), Dryden Crusaders(?), Jonesville Bulldogs blue/yellow, Pennington Gap Wildcats(?), Flatwoods Pocahontas Indians Black/Orange
  6. Lee was still in the Highlands at that time. You may be thinking of Gate City, they dropped in '01 I think Those big splits of the split veer are killer
  7. Yeah I was agreeing w/ you. The kid did celebrate excessively and it was a legit call but he didnt taunt and was just really excited, that call completly changed the game and wasnt necessary. Now that I think about it wasnt really that excessive
  8. Burton got screwed, no need to make that call
  9. It sounds almost to incredible to be real, a really great story. The trick play by Jonesville to score to send the game to OT, the stopped 2-pt conversion to win the game, incredible. "Maybe, Jonesville was just a team of destiny"
  10. When Richlands and Tazewell drop down I hope they dont join the BDD because the current BDD schools would be screwed! I think that when that happens the districts will be realigned between big/small schools, I dont know where Hurley, Council and TV are gonna go? Im assuming Grundy will wanna be in the same district w/ the TC schools and Honaker wont want to stay in the BDD or maybe they will who knows?
  11. TS does have some really good transfers come in but that is beside the point, a Cumberland team wins region pretty regularly. TS has had some very good teams(even if the transfer is their star player), Castlewood has produced some really good teams and the rest of the district is solid except Ervinton which is Ervinton. I agree tho it has to be the worst overall district in VA. Not to doubt you but I thought Rye Cove won region in '00? Haysi beat both Garden and Pound that season but lost to RC? I thought Pounds last good season was '99(we beat them that season also)?
  12. What he is trying to say is acting like a idiot(even if you are joking) doesent help you look less like an idiot. If you mean something then say it, dont just spurt off w/ some jerk b.s. I dont think youre an idiot or some stupid jerk but sometimes you come off that way.
  13. Very true, but it is often seen that way. I think it is important when doing anything that is possibly controversial(such as waving a Confederate flag) to be mindful of your behavior. I have 0 problem w/ the Hurley fans waving a flag, but if someone else has a problem with it or says something try to educate them on your position and not just say "by God its my right"
  14. The Civil War initially weakened the country but in the long term made it stronger. After the CW the states were w/o a doubt subordinate to the federal government. Not to mention the USA and CSA would have both been economicially weak and depended on the other for trade and not very efficient. Its Americas economic might that made it a strong country. I do understand some people not being comftorable w/ the Confederate flag, I would be nervous if I saw a bunch of black guys waving a white flag w/ a black panther on it
  15. That would be my guess, their dad is a big b-ball fan and Hurley is really close to WV and KY and so close to some good b-ball teams
  16. Richmond doesent seem to shy away from its Civil War past. I wouldnt think it would be a big deal. A good example is for years I hung a flag in my bedroom but wouldnt put a flag bumper sticker on my truck I do see the point about the flag having some negative associations (hate groups, idiots) but to me it stands for a group of people(my ancestors) standing up against people that knew little about their lives (northern politicians in D.C.)trying to tell them how to live(they were wrong in their arguement but I respect the idea). Its also often forgotten that the Northern states made alot of money from slavery while they were speaking against it, but thats neither here nor there
  17. Way to go Rebels! The whole BDD is proud
  18. So Abingdon has been getting their @$$ beat since '92? hahaha That makes everything said by Bigmouth and Falconboy that much funnier! I knew Abingdon didnt exactly have a "rich" football history but I didnt know it was that bad
  19. I was kinda wondering which. I never thought RCs field was in that bad of shape(I know its not the nicest in the world but who cares?), it may have been the seating issue
  20. Where is the game at? Thats a long trip from EM to Hurley. The way I understand it some EM fans were talking pretty bad about all the hicks and rednecks in Clintwood, they havent seen Rednecks until they go to Hurley and I mean that in the best way! Give 'em hell Rebels
  21. Rye Cove was solid in 2000 but that was the last descent Cumberland team. I think that was the last Cumberland team to beat Haysi until this past season. Why did RC host the Reg C champ at GC and not at RC? I think we were pretty much talking football, the Cumberland is a very good basketball district and baseball is ok for this area (the area as a whole is pretty weak in Baseball) You Abingdon guys talk alot of crap but ive said it before, the last 4 times the mighty falcons played Honaker they got beat! Not much room to brag there! And no Honaker is in the BDD not the Cumberland
  22. The past 5 or so years have been really hard. Befor that the team that won the Cumberland was at least pretty good, as of late the whole district has been terrible.
  23. I understand the point of people got in WAY over their heads, I blame them for biting off more than they could chew and the banks for loaning them huge ammounts of money knowing that they probably would have to default later(bank makes money off of the payments and gets the home back later). But I know alot of people who plan on keeping their homes for the rest of their lives and are stressing because their homes value went down, I dont understant that?
