  1. What a nice post. That's really what it's all about. They can close the doors, but the memories in your heart remain.
  2. I tried to tell folks that this year's edition was different. Folks said after the PV loss that we'd fold again. We go to Clintwood and almost pull the upset,go to Appy and win 62-6,and go to Norton and shock the Raiders tonight.
  3. J.I.Burton's 30-game home win streak at Lawson-Fitchko goes by the boards,as the J.J. Kelly Indians spoil Senior Night, and pull a stunning upset 14-7. Defense wins championships, and the Kelly defense was stout. To hold Martinez Miles and his explosive Raiders to 7 is impressive. Instead of waiting on someone to figure out power points, the TRIBE punches their playoff spot the old-fashioned way-by earning it on the field. Best of luck to all the LPD teams next week. Way to go BIG RED!!!
  4. Let's go Haysi Tigers. Torch those Honaker Tigers and claim the BDD crown! Normally I'd be indifferent, but a Honaker win would hurt us. GO RED TIGERS!!!!
  5. LET'S GO HAYSI!!! No disrespect Hurley friends, but being a JJK fan (like PV as well),I gotta pull for Haysi to enhance our playoff chances. I was hoping for Hurley to win the BDD,but that's the brakes. How is the Blankenship kid? Thoughts and prayers headed his way for a speedy recovery.

    Grundy..

Riding back from my TRIBE's 62-6 beatdown of Appy at Riggs, and I heard this score, and my smile got wider. Congrats to the kids from Grundy. We know what it's like snapping a long losing streak from years past. I knew you had it in ya! Great job Golden Wave.
  7. Let's not forget that 1 Wave TD was set up via short field after a JJK costly turnover(countering the pick 6) Your own coach admitted that JJK whipped 'em up front most of the game. The powerful Wave rushing attack had less yards (just 85) than ours. As for the call? That depends on who you are. Green will see it one way,and red another. One thing we can agree on though: It was a war between 2 good teams, and neither deserved to lose (but somebody had to) Article in the Coalfield Progress by Quinn Reynolds Clintwood emerges with win from LPD thriller By: Quinn Reynolds/Sports Writer CLINTWOOD — The Clintwood Greenwave remained on top of the Lonesome Pine District standings Friday night with a hard-fought 17-13 victory that was not decided until the final seconds of the game against a very tough J.J. Kelly team at Ralph Cummins Stadium. Clintwood's victory came after Kelly's Indians went to the air late and had an apparent 70-yard, go-ahead touchdown erased by a block-in-the-back penalty on a pass play with three minutes remaining in the game. The Indians could not recover. “Wow! That was one heck of a game against a very good J.J. Kelly football team,” said a relieved Clintwood head coach Rick Mullins. “They whipped us up front most of the game. But our defense kept us in the game and we made enough plays offensively to win the game.” The Wave defense was the first to flex its muscles as Cameron Vanover picked off a pass from his linebacker position to give the home club great field position. The Greenwave (7-1, 3-0) started the possession from J.J. Kelly’s 15-yard line. After a short gain by Justin Reed, Clintwood went to its big fullback Austin Dotson. Dotson took the hand-off from the 9-yard line and carried tacklers into the end zone for the touchdown. Nick Lewis split the uprights to give the Wave a 7-0 lead with 4:20 remaining in the first quarter. J.J. Kelly (6-2, 1-2) made some noise with its defense on Clintwood’s next possession by forcing and recovering a fumble at the Wave’s 33-yard line. Running backs Lucas Kerns and Alex McArthur made nice runs down the Wave’s 5-yard line. Kerns took care of it from there as he followed his blockers to perfection and went over the right side for the score. Weston Mullins split the uprights to knot the score at 7-7. Kelly coach B.I. Salyers gambled on fourth-and-one on his own 41-yard line on the Indians' next possession. The Wave defense stiffened and stopped the Indians for no gain. Clintwood went straight to the air to try to catch the Indians thinking run. However, J.J. Kelly’s Cody Williams blitzed from his linebacker position and nailed the quarterback as he threw, causing the ball to sail over the receiver's head. Defensive back Brandon Osborne was there to intercept the errant throw and race 80 yards down the sideline for the defensive touchdown. The kick was blocked as the visitors took the lead 13-7 with 5:35 remaining in the second quarter. The Wave responded by going into a hurry-up offense as they moved the ball down the field to the Indians' 17-yard line. With 19 seconds on the clock, Lewis lined up and nailed a 34-yard field goal to cut into the Indian lead to 13-10 at halftime. “This is a very tough loss, but I am very proud of my kids,” said Kelly's Salyers. “We really played very hard tonight and I thought that we played good enough to get the win.” After an Austin Dotson interception gave Clintwood the ball at the Indians 24 in the third quarter, Greenwave quarterback Trey Meade found J.T. Fleming in the flat and Fleming scampered 24-yards for the touchdown with two minutes left in the third quarter which ended up being the decisive touchdown
  8. I think last Friday showed JJK deserving. We outplayed Clintwood, and lost a nail-biter on the road via a call that many question. The TRIBE lost a slop-bowl vs PV in one of those games where anything can happen. Most consider Clintwood one of the best in the area. If JJK wins at Appy and at Norton, they deserve to be in at 8-2.
  9. I don't recall the Falcons playing us in football. You may be a bit delusional. I do recall playing them in baseball a few times. As for Pound? By FAR the weakest team in the LPD (every distric has one). Pound doesn't stay within 3-4 TDs of anybody in the LPD. You need to get a clue, not me "partner". The LPD is indeed down from what it used to be,but it's still stronger than the others (CMD being only distric in his area that is comparable)
  10. Dude Burton is as down this year as you'll ever see and they still won by 2 TDs in your house. The LPD is a rugged distric, and they prove that when they play out of conference opponents. That's not bragging. You can look up the W-L records, and it bears itself out. The LPD and CMD are the two toughest districs in our area.
  11. Eating crow would have meant picking JJK to beat PV. I never called that one. What I did say was that we were picked 4th in the LPD,but prhaps we could surprise somebody. If we lose out, then we finish where we were picked to finish. I do however feel that we have some winnable games left on the schedule. PV beat us,and I gave them their props. There's no crow to be eaten here. You have the definition wrong this time. Sportsman siad the Vikes were in decline. That cannot be disputed. Granted PV was better than us Friday, but it has been forever since that program has been at the top. What he said was accurate, and even you have to acknowledge that the program is down (great example being that Norton had owned PV for years until this one. Back in the day PV blew Norton out year after year).
  12. I dealt with the loss ,showed alot of class on the LPD board after it. It is what it is,and it's moving on time.
  13. Holston is still undefeated true (will see what they have when they meet Clintwood if that pans out). I have grown up,but it seemed funny to me that someone from Abingdon commented on it. PV did indeed beat us,and deserved the win Friday night, but I'd wager the Falcons would have fared worse. You guys have played an LPD squad this year (one that is down somewhat this year ,one who lost to PV as well btw). How'd that work out fer ya?
  14. What is funny is someone from Abingdon laughing about it. When's the last time you guys were 6-0 going into any football game? You all haven't exactly struck fear in folks hearts over the years.
  15. What's a pass? (insert sarcasm here). A JJK QB will never lead the LPD in passing yds or TDs
  16. Should be interesting. BDD front-runner vs LPD cellar-dwellar. It will be a tight one IMO.
  17. My thoughts from the LPD board: I told folks that this was a trap game, that we'd get caught looking ahead. When I met up with my buddies tonight and said the same, they thought I was crazy. By halftime, they figured out I was right. We made enough mistakes to last a season tonight. Lee's first score was from a fumble, and their 2nd TD came via a short field from another miscue. Take nothing away from the Generals though. Those guys played inspired football. The conditions/variables tonight were perfect for an upset. As bad as it was in the first half,a little motivation and some adjusting (Graham is a dandy back who gashed us in the first half, but we shut him down in the 2nd),and JJK played a much better 2nd (the long, punishing drive to grab the lead was as nice as it gets). If we do not play 2 solid halves next week,PV will wax us-simple as that. I will say though that our kids showed tons of heart, character, and poise after falling behind 14-0. Many JJK teams in the past would have laid down (a testament to this bunch). I'm sure this will be a rough week of practice, but I really believe that tonight may have been exactly what we needed. At the end of the day though,we are 6-0. Best of luck to Lee the rest of the way. The Generals earned my respect tonight.
  18. From the BHC Lee High at J.J. Kelly One of just three unbeaten teams in Southwest Virginia, J.J. Kelly has posted a 5-0 record thanks to a physical defense and power running game. Alex McArthur and Lucas Kerns starred in last week’s 50-8 victory over Rye Cove. The Indians should remain unbeaten but they can’t be caught looking ahead against the Generals. Prediction: J.J. Kelly 32, Lee High 16 Hoople's pick: LEE 19, J.J. KELLY 13 — The chalk talk is over. It’s time to perform. Pay no attention to menacing looks, Generals. The bigger they are, the louder they bawl. Hak-kaff!
  19. Seems to me that we've been winning a few LPD games as of late as well (and rest assured that'll go up with the crew coming up behind the current edition).
  20. You just got your witness from the congregation brother! Great post
  21. Guess an intelligent rundown is above your head. At least Counts pulled it off. I asked you for a rundown,as you had seen Lee when your Vikes played them. Simple task really.
  22. 5-0 vs 0-5? Yeah, pretty sure that is the epitome of a trap game.
  23. Instead of doing what you do best, which is bitch and gripe about our schedule, hows about a rundown on Lee,an intelligent breakdown if you can pull it off, considering that your Vikes have played Lee this year.
