  2. [ QUOTE ] that would be even worse than the high school. Theres no room at the high school and even less at the police station [/ QUOTE ] The good part is the police station is closer to the action. The drunks, carnies, pillpushers, tatoo artists, and pervs don't have as far to go to get locked-up.

  6. [ QUOTE ] Where is the old coach from Patrick Henry going to coach now? [/ QUOTE ] Itchy Ritchy Thomas is the personnel director for Wythe County Public Schools. Word is he is assembling a team of Pulaski / Wythe / Smyth / Carroll ex football players / thugs / bikers / roughnecks / parolees to compete against the Bluefield Barons.
  7. [ QUOTE ] Actually he won more games in 5 years than Battle did, so I guess he is an improvement. So was the administration just trying to raise the bar from 1 in. to 1 7/8 in. I like it, a little improvement at a time. Just think when they have to hire another coach in 4-5 years they can get a guy that's won 20 games in 5 years. [/ QUOTE ] I heard that Target is going to rent the Johnny Bottle football field this fall for storage for their Christmas inventory.
  8. [ QUOTE ] What does a line coach have to do with eating at a park outside? Bring back Keene. Or why cant Good Luck Chuck Coach Line [/ QUOTE ] Tommy Keene owns Keene Kone. He will be slamming frozen custards out at $2.50 a shot next summer while those football coaches are sweating blood in the 100 degree heat.

  11. [ QUOTE ] Twin Valley got Tommy gun!! PH got Compton!!! Compton Takes Over Patrick Henry Football Tuesday, Mar 04, 2008 - 11:20 PM BY Tim Hayes Sports Reporter Send e-mail Email to a Friend Printer Friendly A two-time Super Bowl champion is the new head football coach at Patrick Henry High School. Richlands native and former NFL offensive lineman Mike Compton was approved as Patrick Henry’s new coach at the Washington County school board meeting on Monday night. Compton replaces Tim Johnson, who resigned after six seasons at the Hogoheegee District school. The 37-year-old Compton spent the two previous seasons as an assistant at Tazewell. He began thinking about becoming a head coach following last season. "It just so happened the Patrick Henry job came available," Compton said. "I’ve been over there several times to watch my youngest daughter play in some basketball tournaments. I have a cousin that teaches over there as well. It’s a nice area … I just felt it was a good time to turn my application in and at worse get an interview and see how the process went. Luckily, I was able to get the job." Compton’s background is impressive. After a standout career at Richlands High School, he became an All-American at West Virginia University. He parlayed that into a successful professional career that lasted from 1993-2004. He spent time with the Detroit Lions, New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars. He won Super Bowl titles with the Patriots in 2002 and 2004. He was a starter on New England’s Super Bowl XXXVI squad and was on the field for the game-winning field goal that beat the St. Louis Rams that year in the championship game. After retiring, Compton turned his focus to coaching. "Part of the reason I went into education in college was to be a coach and work with kids at the high school or college level," Compton said. "Coaches I had growing up, in college and the NFL, I wanted to take what I learned from all those philosophies and mold them into my own philosophy. Being on the field and competing as a player is one thing, but now I’m taking the step to compete and be in competition as a head coach." He got his first coaching experience last year at Tazewell. He taught health and physical education there and will do the same at Patrick Henry. "I owe a lot to [Tazewell principal] Keith Hovis, [Tazewell football coach] Bobby Wyatt and [Tazewell athletic director] Tom Keene," Compton said. "I learned a lot working and coaching under them both. They’ve been very valuable assets in helping me." Meanwhile, PH went 4-6 this past season and the team has not qualified for the postseason since 2000. Compton will go about the process of turning the Rebels into a serious Region C contender. "We are very excited to add Mike Compton to our staff," PH principal Keith Perrigan said. "He will bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and excitement to our program. Aside from Coach Compton’s NCAA and NFL experience, he is a good role model and is dedicated to building a successful program at PHHS, from Midget League through Varsity. "Our players have a desire to take our program to the next level, and I believe that Coach Compton is the right person to lead that process." [/ QUOTE ] Who got the better deal ?
  12. [ QUOTE ] Mad Jack Compton [/ QUOTE ] Mad Jack has a pair of boxer shorts made out of a rebel flag; hire him on!
  13. [ QUOTE ] Sorry that you will have to go down to Abingdon now and watch coach carlock pull another upset. Gas is over $3.00 a Gal maybe coach Carlock will let you ride the bus and be the water boy. [/ QUOTE ] Cornflake, They selling women for $3 in Abingdon now?
  14. [ QUOTE ] Tommy Crigger is no sleeper even though he likes to sleep alot. He will bring alot of coaching experience and has coached with alot of great coaches. People like Beckleheimer(?) at Magna Vista and Esp. Terry Smith from Virginia High who Crigger gives alot of credit to for his knowledge for the game of football. He will bring the true Wing T to Southwest Virginia [/ QUOTE ] Crigger could only bring chicken wings and iced tea.
  15. [ QUOTE ] Mulkey Player of the Year [/ QUOTE ] It would have to be the tall lanky official known as "Wurst" Hurst. He has called every SWD game I have seen this year, and has had a bigger role in deciding who wins than anyone wearing shorts or shooting the three ball.
  16. [ QUOTE ] Maybe I didn't make the question clear, I'm not saying that D1 C or D are as good as D1 A or B, that's not the point of the question. I gave the illustration of Twin Valley. They have a good chance of winning the Region D D1. In that illustration, would they be there if they had not split the divisions? Which LOCAL team benefits the most from the divisional splits. I get it--Regions A or B are better than C or D. I get it--that whoever makes it to Richmond probably won't win the championship. I get that. But that's not the point of the question. Which LOCAL team benefits the most from the divisional splits? In other words, who can win and do well in a season when, in any other year, they wouldn't win? [/ QUOTE ] My guess is the concession stands since every school that fields a girls and boys team will be in Regional competition.
  17. [ QUOTE ] You have to give Golden Oldie credit he knows basketball. He learned from the best Roll and Bill Cecil [/ QUOTE ] The onliest basketball he knows is the one he keeps under his XXXL T-shirt
  18. I would love to see Tailback Scammell, Shotgun Crigger, Hairy Compton, ProBowl Compton, and Arm Strong all end up on the same coaching staff. There wouldn't be enough honey buns, Falstaff beer, and McRib sandwiches in the world to take care of these pot bellied playcallers.
  19. must be wanting to preserve everyone left in Grundy based on the amount of salt they dumped on the popcorn Thursday night
  20. [ QUOTE ] You could not combine every team in Buchanan County and win the Black dianmod district more less the state...lol [/ QUOTE ] Let's play Bucko chinese checkers and move each coach to a different school every week. The fans and players won't have a clue who they are getting from week to week. That way the Buchanan County mafia won't have to provide protection to the head coaches 24/7.
  21. [ QUOTE ] you know what basically what u are saying just like your other little wv buddys is that the schools with 4598453895739578957894578375 people in it can beat school such as us with 437 and richlands and stuff so man who cares u need to pick a different topic cause to be honest with ya playboy not one of cares who the beavers can beat so get over urself i bet u dont even play u are probabally some high school graduate that lives in his glory days man just go to the y or whatever and stay there cause we are all tired of hearing how much better wv teams are WE DONT CARE [/ QUOTE ] Man all that is one long sentence......... but from what I have seen, except for the occasional genetic abnormalities (O.J. Mayo, Dell Curry, Alonzo Morning, Allen Iverson, David Robinson, among few others) neither the whole states of West Virginia or Virginia are much of a basketball paradise, much less this region and especially high school. An evening of local high school hoops watching is more painful than a lobotomy.
  22. How did Johnny Walker in a Bottle do against Mountain Mission last night in their tourney?
  23. [ QUOTE ] Fatback after staying a week with Aunt Bee and KW in a tent you will want to Worsh with WA WA. I just hope Blue Allinums old lady has learnt to make bisquits and gravy better than last year. That gravy was awful lumppy. maybe her inlaws or older sister got her a country cook book fur christmas last year. And if anyone talks to blue allinum tell him not to pump the sewer tank I got a buddy of mine bringing 6 port o potties to place on the fromt lawn. [/ QUOTE ] I made my reservations with Big Blue Aluminum last night. I will be in the third pick-up truck on the left (the one with the rebel flag) beside the persimmon tree where Aluminum has been taking the engine out of his'73 Pinto. For all you comin up next week, don't let your coon dogs run free because some anti-freeze from the Pinto had run out on the ground and might pizzen um. Aluminum has taken the radiator out of the Pinto and is brewing up some blue lightenin for the home boys as well. He said he had done kilt 3 turkeys and 5 deers so he will have all the vittles we need. You won't need them portypotties either; he said the red oaks still had plenty of good leaves still hanging on the branches.
  24. [ QUOTE ] Yep that is the game Palmer was going to whip some Fat guy in the bleachers the yelled at him to get them DB playing better. Who was that fat guy? [/ QUOTE ] It was Palmer
