  1. What happened in 1991.....don't remember.
  2. If I were a coach applying for any position at a school board/school and info is being "leaked" prior to the position being filled from the source/company to which one applied (I would withdraw my name)...that school system has more of a "major" problem than just filling a job opening. Applications for any job should be confidential.... any HR (human resources) dept. head or whomever is in charge of accepting job applications MUST postively keep all material from unauthorized eyes. If "names" are getting out to the public....how much more confidential info on the application is being exposed for ill. IF ......what was stated is the case.....then this school system needs to do some "internal" housecleaning.
  3. OK ppl don't let this turn into a "whose better thread"....these are two distinct different players ....they both got D1 schollys....and they're both from Tazewell County. Fuller proved his "worth" by getting to the VA state championship game 3 yrs. in a row and being a big factor in that happening (especially the last 2 trips.) Fuller was redshirted last year and this coming season will be his time to show his skills. Muncy gets all the headlines this year b/c he was recruited this year.....he attended the camps, combines and was a difference maker on his team.....let's ALL be happy/proud for him and hope that in the coming years both players are playmakers on their respective college teams. Nuff said.
  4. Congrats to Coach Pat Summitt.....she also signed an ext. through yr. 2014 and got an extra $200,000 bonus. She only has 1 sr. on the team, no juniors, 4 sophs and 7 freshmen....a very young team. Bjorklund, a soph. (SEC freshman of the yr. last year) is the most "seniored" member w/playing time. According to Coach Summitt their goal this yr. is to make it to the Final Four with such a young team......and she just might do it. See link w/article on her 1000th win last night http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2009/feb/05/summitt-1000-and-climbing/

  6. Article in NY Times ....see following excerpt: "Sharing the spotlight and the drama of the decision is Brian Butler, who identifies himself as the Brown brothers’ trainer and manager. To get to Bryce Brown, coaches must go through Butler. He handles Brown’s workouts, recruiting and news media requests. On a Web site, Butler sells updates of Brown’s recruitment for $9.99 a month or $59 a year. He also seeks contributions that he says are used to take players on a tour of colleges each summer." Butler, a former rapper and cellphone call-center manager, is among a new breed of entrepreneurs inserting themselves into college football recruiting. Some say he is navigating gray areas of N.C.A.A. rules and brokering his clients’ futures for personal gain. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/04/sports/ncaafootball/04recruit.html

  8. It's "sad" that it takes a tragedy for "common sense" to be applied....(good payment record, elderly, extreme weather).....hopefully, things are in place in "that" community that something as this will not occur again.
  9. .....just can't get good "help" nowadays. lol Ppl in GA only think of one location......Jacksonville (Gators and Dawgs brawl)..... and apparently the AJC is in the same mindset.

  11. I'm a HUGE VT fan but living in the state of GA....... I do pull for the dawgs as a second favorite. I went the other day and heard Mark Richt speak at the dedication of the Long Forum at Greater ATL Christian. (It's a 3500 stadium seat arena for basketball and other events.) Coach Richt was asked to speak b/c he had 3 former GAC players on his team last year. Caleb King, RB; Brannon Sutherland, FB and Christian Robinson WR, I believe. Christian's dad, Ken Robinson is the head fb coach at GAC and formerly played for the WA Redskins. The #3 WR in the nation, Marlon Brown from Memphis committed to GA today.....and with A.J. Green lined up on the other side at WR.....GA is gonna have some tandem. GA had already enrolled last month 2 elite 11 QB's..... Murray from FL and Mettenberger from Oconee Co. close to Athens. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- See below AJC article on Marlon Brown: WR Marlon Brown commits to Georgia over Tennessee and Ohio State By Michael Carvell | Wednesday, February 4, 2009, 04:10 PM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Georgia ended an 0-for-4 skid as finalists for prospects on signing day when wide receiver Marlon Brown of Memphis committed to the Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon. Brown made his announcement at Harding Academy, surrounded by friends wearing the hats of his finalists: Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio State and Mississippi. Brown didn’t waste any time, immediately grabbing the Georgia hat, and putting it on. “The reason why I chose the Bulldogs … they have a good head coach and they have a good system for receivers to come in and play early … that’s why I picked Georgia,†Brown told ESPNU. Georgia had missed earlier in the day on safety Jawanza Starling of Tallahasee, Fla., (Southern Cal), Columbus-Carver linebacker Jarvis Jones (Southern Cal), offensive lineman Bobby Massie of Hargrave, Va., (Ole Miss), and Miller Grove wide receiver Stephen Hill (Georgia Tech). Hill was the only of the foursome committed to another school while considering switching to the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-5, Brown, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 3 wide receiver by ESPN, said he picked Georgia on Monday, and then stuck with the decision. “[Georgia coach Mark Richt] told me I was going to come in and have the chance to play as a freshman, and I bought into it,†Brown told ESPNU. There was a tremendous amount of pressure for Brown to stay at home and play for the Volunteers. New Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin had made Brown his No. 1 recruiting priority, flying to Memphis to visit with Brown on the same day he took the job. “It was extremely hard to tell the Tennessee Vols ‘No’ … it was real hard,â€
  12. Johnson: ‘No hard feelings’ toward Dontae Aycock By Todd Holcomb | Wednesday, February 4, 2009, 09:51 AM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson says he has no hard feelings toward Dontae Aycock, the quarterback from Jacksonville who committed to Georgia Tech but wound up with Auburn this week. Johnson pulled Aycock’s scholarship offer last month when Aycock told the coach he was planning to take a visit to two other visits. â€We recruited Dontae for almost a year and felt like we bent over backward for him, and when guys commit to me, which he did, they understand the rules,†Johnson said. “He got some bad advice. Dontae is a good kid, and I think he’ll be a good player. But when you build a program, you better mean what you say and say what you mean. That’s what happened.†Johnson said he didn’t blame Auburn for pursuing Aycock. â€I have no hard feelings toward Dontae, none toward Auburn,†Johnson said. “I’d do the same thing [as Auburn did]. If I walk out in the hall and someone asks my wife to dinner and she says yes, my issue is with her.â€
  13. Georgia Tech rescinds scholarship offer to Florida QB after Auburn trip By Jeff Hood | Monday, February 2, 2009, 11:52 PM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Quarterback Dontae Aycock of Tampa, Fla., who had given a “secret commitment†to Georgia Tech three weeks ago, had his scholarship offer taken away by the Jackets. Aycock was warned by Georgia Tech of the consequences if he took an official visit to Auburn last weekend, according to his coach. “Auburn called him on Thursday and offered him on Friday,†Chamberlain coach Brian Turner said. “He was told [by Georgia Tech coaches] that if he took the trip [to Auburn over the weekend] the scholarship would be pulled. “He went on the trip and, I guess, he’s going in a different direction now.†Turner said he and his staff advised Aycock to keep his word to Tech. “We’re very disappointed. We don’t like our kids to do that. We want our kids to honor their commitments. [Tech] gave him every opportunity to not do it.†Aycock’s decision to visit Auburn (where he is now committed), who is recruiting him as a running back, may have been influenced by his brother Dwight Smith, a safety for the Detroit Lions. “I think what it came down to is he wants to play in the NFL, and people are influencing him,†Turner said. “They’re telling him if he plays running back, he has a better chance of making it to the NFL. “We thought he’d be the perfect quarterback in Georgia Tech’s system. We thought Georgia Tech was a great fit for him. “We think he’s making a mistake, but we’ll support him. With his talent, he would have been a great quarterback there. But we love the kid, and we’ll support him.â€

  16. I know this is a Hokie thread but since Bobby/Bob Knight's name was mentioned.....word is he's interested in the GA Dawgs job w/the firing of Felton. This was written about by Furman Bisher long noted respectable writer in the AJC yesterday. According to Bisher, Knight won't pubicly ask for the job but would probably accept it if GA offered. Take it for what it's worth..... Following is article from AJC today on players reaction: http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/uga/stories/2009/02/01/georgia_players_knight.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab

Played several years w/Lions and Barry Sanders. Started for Patriots and won a SB ring...... also good player at WVU.
  20. By Tim Hayes Sports Writer / Bristol Herald Courier Published: January 29, 2009 BY TIM HAYES Bristol Herald Courier Heath Miller has been here before, but he figures only time will tell exactly what that previous experience might mean this time around. The former Honaker High School and University of Virginia star will start at tight end for the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Fla. It is Miller’s second trip to the biggest spectacle in sports. The last time, he got the chance to hoist the famed Vince Lombardi Trophy. He’d like nothing more than to have an encore performance, but Miller is trying to focus on this game rather than what happened the last time. “It’s kind of hard to compare, because it’s not over yet,†Miller said in a recent telephone interview. “Hopefully, we go down there and take care of business. If we don’t win, there’s really no comparison.†Miller was a 23-year-old rookie when the Steelers beat the Seattle Seahawks, 21-10, in Super Bowl XL at Detroit’s Ford Field three years ago. Nerves might have gotten the best of Miller in the early stages of that game. He didn’t catch a pass and was whistled for two penalties, including a false start on Pittsburgh’s first possession. Later, however, he delivered a block that helped to pave the way for Willie Parker’s 75-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. It was a pivotal play in a game that left an impression on Miller. “It’s an exciting time,†Miller said. “As a player, it’s the game you dream of playing and dream of being a part of. I just know that I was blessed to be a part of it that time, and I’m blessed to be back this time.†Miller continues to entrench himself as one of the NFL’s top tight ends. Though he missed two games because of an ankle injury, Miller had 514 receiving yards and three touchdowns during the regular season. He’s also produced in the postseason, coming up with big catches and blocks in wins over San Diego and Baltimore as Pittsburgh proved itself the class of the AFC. Miller will have plenty of moral support, both in Florida and back home. At least five members of his family are making the trip to Tampa, and plenty of fans will don their No. 83 Steelers jerseys at Super Bowl parties across Southwest Virginia on Sunday. “My family is really excited,†Miller said. “They are anxious for the game. I know that they’ll be either at home watching or at the game rooting me on.†Many experts predict a big game for Miller against Arizona’s suspect pass defense. That would not be a surprise: Miller’s been making a huge impact since his days as an all-state quarterback at Honaker. He made the switch from QB to tight end at Virginia and rewrote the Atlantic Coast Conference record book at his position. His first NFL reception resulted in a touchdown and he’s been doing his job quietly and humbly ever since that rookie season. Now, he’ll try to reach the top for the second time. “I feel like it’s gone pretty well,†Miller said. “Obviously, we strived all year to be in this position and we’re here. Now, we just have to take care of business.â€

  22. .....and what about "Ogreman", "Madnow" ( I think she drinks a qt. of vinegar before going on the air) and "Messthews" .......they constantly mocked, slammed and accused President Bush for every conceivable wrong in the world..... months prior to the election.....and he wasn't even running. Yes, Rush can be off the wall at times (he's railing on the repubs now for their lack of foresight....so, he's not just "dissing" on the dems).....yes, Hannity repeats himself alot on issues.....but they're the only ones in the "medium" that are usually "spot on" (taking Hokie7's words) w/what's going on with the "libs". The mainstream medium was/is "awash in the glow" that everything has now been corrected and all will be right w/the world again. Even if the repubs had won.....most conservatives know that things will never be as they were prior to 9-11. With Princess P and Prince Harry "on the hill" wagging their royal scepters .......I think President Obama will have his hands full. Yes, he is our President and I do respect that .....but it doesn't mean I have to approve of decisions he's made with which I disagree.
  23. I have seen windmills in the flatter farm lands of Illinois that really stood out. Now as far as benefits derived from these windmills I couldn't say....but they were definitely "eyecatching". I have also seen windmills on the ridges in upperstate WI from the 4 lanes below and they were at such a great distance I had to look several times to discern what they were....benefits to the area I couldn't tell you. However, the ones on the ridges were less obtrusive to the eye.
