  1. http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news;_ylt=AvAn8BjhVvO4K_CwEgf1sW85nYcB?slug=txnewyorkhenry Could this be the signing that pushes the MLS to a new level and attracts more players? I don't know. I can't stand to watch an MLS match because it isn't football. It's not like the European leagues, it's not even on the Brazilian and Argentine leagues. In my opinion, Henry has been the best striker of the past decade, and he could very well lead NYRB to a championship this season.
  2. Metal studs are part of the game in soccer though...haha
  3. I just tried it an I got a malware warning.
  4. The sad reality is that in the modern game, diving is a part of the game (not in the rule book for Gman). I've taken dives before in the game. I've gotten the calls. Do I feel bad about it, no? Would I take my yellow card if they gave it to me, yes. Anything that you can do to give your team an advantage is fair play in my book. It's frowned upon, and I can't stand to see it in a game, but at the end of the day, I'm a hypocrite because of it. Best game of the tournament for me was Ghana/Uruguay.
  5. Bucfan...did you leave that first comment? Haha
  6. Tune into a Barcelona/Real Madrid, Chelsea/Manchester United, Brazil/Argentina, ect. and you will not be let down.
  7. Diving is part of the game though.
  8. Spain were resilient. They played their style of football which is actually fun to watch. If you don't have fun watching Barcelona play, which is essentially the way Spain plays, then you don't know exciting football.
  9. Exactly. After the Ireland/France debacle, Irish legend Roy Keane said it was partly due to the fact that the Irish team was not booked. Yellow cards aren't bad. In excess, yes they are. You hear the announcers say a "professional foul," but the Dutch were playing "dirty" football. De Jong should have been off, van Bommel should have been off as well for cumulation of tackles. I was disappointed in the way the game was played, but it was in a way interesting to watch.
  10. Who would have thought that New Zealand would end the tournament as the only unbeaten team? Not I.
  11. Great call Viva..Great call...since I'm 18...I need to get into this sports betting business!
  12. My "NBA know it all friend" said he was staying in Cleveland. I said no way, he's going to Miami, 5-1 odds on that. And he was like, no way is he going to Miami. So I put $10 on those 5-1 odds and it looks like I'm getting $50 tonight! This was about 2 weeks ago.
  13. Considering I have $50 on this decision, I will watch him say the name of the team. =P
  14. I'm thinking CSKA Moscow...
  15. In South and Central American they come out of the womb holding their ankle, only to then be sprayed with the magic spray by the doctor and blossom into a professional soccer player.
  16. In a way, but off a goaltending you automatically get the points. I would compare it to a pass interference in the endzone. You get the ball at the 1 or whatever and you are pretty much going to score, just like a penalty kick. But you think about all this "FIFA Fair Play" and diving and flopping. And know you have this incident. Like I said, I would have done the same thing, but its flirting on stretching the rules.
  17. As a soccer fan, it was the best soccer match I have ever seen.
  18. Me either...I've actually had that situation happen to me before. I wasn't the one to get the red, but another player did.
  19. But see it doesn't give a goal for that infraction, it just gives a chance at a goal.
  20. Well yeah it was a great move, but I've heard it being compared to Henry's hand ball in which I believe he cheated. Yes, Henry cheated. Suarez though got punished and gave Ghana a penalty. So I think it was fair.
  21. For those who are living under a rock (which this applies to most of you and of course I'm kidding) and missed the Uruguay/Ghana ending , let me give a little back story before I pose a question to you guys. With almost no time remaining in the second period of Extra Time, Ghana was awarded a penalty kick due to a handball inside the penalty box. It was blatant as Uruguay's forward swatted the ball off the goal line, denying an obvious goal. Ghana went on to miss the penalty kick, and in the end lost in a penalty kick shootout. The handball can be seen HERE! The infraction comes around the 20-22 second mark. So here is the question I pose to you guys. Handling the ball is a penalty, and he was rightly punished and given a red card. The hand ball basically stole Ghana's victory and was blatant and on purpose. So, the question is...did Suarez (the player who handled the ball) CHEAT? He broke the rules, he didn't bend them, he flat out broke them and it allowed Uruguay to win. In my opinion, he DID NOT cheat. He was punished for his actions, and if I was in his situation, I would have done the same thing. He did what he had to do to help his team win, but broke the rules to do so. Some are calling him a cheat, some are not. Wanted to know what you guys thought about it!
  22. First off, it was a hard red (meaning it was his only card of the game), not his second yellow. Denying a goal scoring opportunity with a handball is a red no matter what. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you are asking that what if the ball was in the goal and he touched it? I could be wrong. But in that case, the goal would have been allowed and no card given. The ball has to be totally over the line for the goal to count. If anyone other than the goalie touches the ball with his hand in the box, it will be a penalty kick. If it denies a clear goal opportunity, it will be a red card.
  23. Why didn't the coach just collect a penny from everyone and call it a camp? That way, it wouldn't have been practice.
  24. I mean...it's not straight up practice like in the fall...its "camp", 7 v 7 practice, "throwing," I mean its really common.
