  1. I wouldn't go so far as to say that, cuz some lessons I learned from the game itself, games I played in, and games I coached molded my future, helped me overcome some problems in my life, and really enabled me to be successful as an adult. To the casual onlooker, the games are not a force which should impact their lives...but for the participants, they do.
  2. Appy has a pretty good pasing game this year...they haven't used it extensively yet tho.
  3. Compton isn't a bad coach...it comes down to what ya have to work with. When you come into a school that has a program that is down, like he did, I know from experience that it usually takes 3 years minimum to really turn it around. Trying to change a losing culture back into a winning culture is the toughest job he has in front of him. But, IMO, with his knowledge of the game, PH will be respectable again in a couple years.
  4. Appy only has 35 players or so...So as far as being outnumbered, that shouldn't be a problem for PH...as far as beating Appy, that should be a problem for PH.
  5. The thing that always got me about Ervinton was in the back of one end zone there was a creek that you had to fish your extra point kicks out of and the other end zone smelled like a septic tank was leaking into it....not to mention the bleachers...
  6. Ya gotta be tough when ya visit Appy...I always loved playing on that field though...Seriously though, none of y'all ever been to Ervinton?..that is one piss poor place to play football.
  7. IMO Appy easily...they hung with GC til the half..and I don't think PH could hang with a team of that caliber until half way through the 1st Qtr...
  8. Kelly is yet to be tested...so we don't know if that is the case or not...BUT, any team that runs straight at Burton in between the tackles should beat them.
  9. Somethin I've always wondered....Who is buried in that big ol hill in the cemetary in Abingdon?
  10. Oh hell....that was funny. Seems like the Falcon groupies are leavin early this year...they usually at least whine and raise hell till week 8...anyways... AMEN, BROTHER...
  11. I've seen both of these teams play this year, and here's my take. Gate City and Appy run pretty much the same offense. IMO, Appy doesn't match up well at all at the LOS on either side of the ball with GC. So, the advantage on both the O-Line and D-Line goes to GC. GC is better in the kicking game as well.As far as backs go, I think one is as good as the other...same for receivers. GC's QB is a better athlete than Appy's BUT IMO Appy's QB is a better passer and has pretty good touch on his passes. As far as DB's go, that's a push as well. GC should win this game by 2 or 3 TDs...the wild card in this game is Appy's speed and tackling. If they use their speed wisely and tackle better, this could be a tight one. I know that sounds crazy but consider that in thier game vs. JI Burton, Appy controlled the game pretty much until mid-3rd Quarter. (Burton only had the ball 4 mins in the 1st half and led 7-6 at halftime) Barring a couple of huge breakdowns on D and a couple of missed opportunities on O, that game could have turned out differently. Still, unless Appy plays flawlessly and GC makes more mistakes than we are accustomed to see them make, GC wins. My prediction: GC 33-Appy 20.
  12. And that wasn't a very good PV team even..
  13. Strange thing it is...but if you take into account how long the PV and GC rivalry has been going on, there has always been a sense of civility amongst the fans of both teams. Guess it's just that when you go to a PV-GC game, you know that regardless of record or implications that both teams are gonna knock the $hiz outta each other for 48 mins, let the chips fall where they may, and then shake hands and go home...
  14. Yep...some people drive like idiots on the road through Nickelsville. If I were coming from Lebanon or Honaker I'd use that road. Coming from anywhere else, I'd prolly go the 81-11-23 route. The Nickelsville route is a lil shorter, but the other is far more convenient and the road is way better.
  15. It's cool...I've read this board for a long time..mostly when I was coaching a few years back. When I post on here I try to be realistic with what I say..and some folks take that as "downing" their team I reckon'. It's all good tho...it's just a message board.
  16. I've been to many a game at Legion both as a player and as a spectator, and the only problem I've ever seen is once or twice a GC student and a fan from another team will argue and get ugly...but it went both ways. Besides that, nothing bad. Certainly nothing to complain endlessly about.
  17. The road through Nickelsville isn't bad...but do the speed limit. Anything more than that and it becomes one of the more deadly roads around here...especially if you aren't accustomed to driving it.
  18. You guys have been asses to me since my first post on this thread...
  19. Kelly has 4 LPD games featuring teams that would wipe the floor with every team in the CD...so, no, there isn't a Cumberland team that has a schedule anywhere near as tough as Kelly's. Now, the non-district games scheduled for Kelly are weak...almost as weak as a CD district slate...
  20. You can talk all u want behind a screen..and unless you have a post grad degree, you don't have my education..lol..you're laughable. One thing I've noticed bout internet big talkers and name callers is when they do meet me in person they change their tune. And Blueballs, I wasn't doggin Hurley til KYJellythunder figured he sling some trash talk my way. Well guess what fellers, I sling it back..and I sling it back with facts.
  21. Do you ever make a post that has any information worth reading?..I've been trying to be nice, but I'll just be blunt. When you talk Hurley football, you are basically building up a team that is capable of beating Twin Valley and most of the Cumberland teams....and in this region, that's it. If you wanna live in a pipe dream and think they are going anywhere that's your perogative..but they aren't. The Cumberland gets a playoff spot and then there's Haysi, Clintwood, Burton, and Appy...3 of those teams will fill out the remaining spots. And when ya wonder why, look at Hurley's schedule. Then you get on here with your lil 3rd grade insults which impress or intimidate me about as much as a piss ant on the sidewalk. But, when your setting behind a computer screen it makes runnin that trap a whole lot easier I reckon.
  22. Exactly...Kelly's schedule up to this point has looked like a Cumberland District Schedule..
  23. If that's the best you can come back at me with, you might as well turn off your computer, climb to the top of the highest tree you have immediate access to, and JUMP.....haha. Before you decide to call someone a prick, make sure you have the brain power to keep up with them, Forrest...
  24. Not haters, just don't care to call a spade a spade...BTW was that "prick" that came out of your mouth?..cuz I was wonderin' when you were gonna spit it out...
