I agree i think the playoffs are going to be good this year...some really good teams in 2A West this year...i still think it's absolutely a joke to cross bracket in the semifinals....just plain out dumb as hell...too much travel that isn't needed...but what can you do
It might be a lot of travel, but it doesn't fresh it up a little to have the ability to play teams that you might not have played before, also it give a chance to have two teams from this side of the state to play for a championship, like Richlands and Union.
Nope! As good of a rivalry as it is Richlands doesnt give AHS anymore help in points as it would if AHS had played Union. It is basically because RHS is AA. Whis isnt near as bad as the lack of points you get for playing the single A schools. Reality is that Blacksburg and Christiansburg, being 3A count more. Now if Richlands beats the Falcons it definitely helps their case in points for winning against a 3A school. Someone correct me if Im wrong, but the only way AHS breaks into the top 5 in any year would be to drop all the 2A and 1A schools off its schedule and travel 2, 3, or 4 hours to play strictly 3A and 4A schools. We all know that isn't going to be reality. It certainly isnt optimal being the only 3A in SWVA.
As someone said, It would definitely suck if you happend to be a 1 loss team and still didnt get a home playoff game. But if we have to run the table, so be it.
I don't think you are correct, If they are part of your district you get 3A points - which would be 20 if won and 8 if you lost. I was readying on VA Preps about this, if this wasn't the case Giles and Glenvar would lose a lot of points because of all the 1A teams they play. NOw saying this - if you play a 1A or 2A team out of district they count has normal, just within district.
Ryan is right, if AHS loses to RHS they could drop out of top 8. So, Abingdon loses 2 games last year and barely misses a home playoff game. They didn't play a single Virginia 3A team last year and lost to GC and Marion. This year they play and beat two 3A teams, may lose 1 game and could still miss a home playoff game. So, that blows the whole "play some some 3A teams to get respect" argument up. I realize AHS could lose more than one game because the season isn't over.....I'm speaking in terms of how they will be favored. They just have to beat Richlands to secure a home playoff game. Of course other teams ranked above them could lose some more games and help solidify a home game. But it's always better to control your own fate. The Richlands game will be a good one.....I'm setting the over/under on points at 102....lol.
Now doesn't RHS count as 3A points because they are in the same district ?
Richlands will have some points they can make up also.
If they beat Abingdon - they will only be a 1 loss team
Giles and Glenvar - 1 will have a loss by the end of the season - they also beat up on the same teams which several are 1A
Appomattox - If they beat their remaining schedule they will be #1 because of Amherst County (I don't believe they will beat them)
Only thing that hurts Union is having Eastside on their schedule - but i think they have the best chance to be #1 or definitely #2 if Appomattox doesn't lose
Richlands / Union halftime summary.....Richlands is playing tackle and Union is playing flag....with the referees believing Richlands is playing to hard.... Richlands turnovers and referees are the only way Union has scored...
