  1. That article was written by Chris Lowe (SEC) not Heather Dinich (ACC).
  2. I have disagreed with everyone about the VT/UT matchup and finally someone sees the possibility I have stated. I think the Chick-Fil-A committee would droul even more at the possibility of a Georgia/Clemson game given the bowl location in Atlanta. Read on through to the 5th bullet of the document below: http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/i...-to-take-shape

  6. Is a New Mex. St. upset of Boise St. VA Tech's only hope of a BCS? It isn't likely for the Aggies to win though, since they have only won three games by three points each. One of those wins is against Prarie View A&M - Other two are Utah St. & New Mex.
  7. Why wouldn't they take the GA Bulldogs then since they beat the Yellow Jackets (even though that wasn't an SEC win) and Auburn? A Clemson / GA matchup would be good also...the two schools are neighbors but don't usually play.
  8. If Clemson can upset Georgia Tech, do you think the Chick-Fil-A committee would choose the Yellow Jackets over the Hokies since it is in Atlanta and GA Tech won head to head? From what I understand, VA Tech's only hope of a BCS is that New Mexico St. would have to upset Boise St...is there any other way that would send the Hokies to the BCS? Also, why would the Outback pass on the Volunteers?
  9. I thought VT didn't want to ever schedule JMU again after the deliberate attempt (on behalf of the Dukes) to injure key VT players when they last played back on (9-6-03). I was at that game and remember VT star tailback, Kevin Jones being hit out of bounds on the Tech sideline and slung past the Hokie bench into the concrete barrier where the bleachers are. From what I recall, KJ was injured on the play (maybe his wrist). This was foolish on behalf of the JMU player and the game was a 43-0 Tech thrashing.
  10. Anyone know the times & dates for next week? Also, will Region C still play Fri night & Region D on Sat (@ UVA Wise again??)
  11. Thanks for the input VHSLHelper...I have asked that very same thing concerning the Region C Playoffs on multiple threads on this board over and over, about if the #1 was "LOCKED IN" to play 4/5 and #2 was "LOCKED IN" to play 3/6. I had heard back over the summer that in the 2nd round the #1 would play the "LOWEST REMAINING SEED" after Round #1 and I don't think anyone else had a clue what I was talking about.
  12. General...I have asked that very question 10 different times and received 10 different answers. I still don't understand if #1 is Locked in to play the 5/4 Winner. I keep hearing that #1 will play the "LOWEST REMAINING SEED" which means they would host the #6 in round two if there is an upset., but Nobody can provide any "evidence" that this is the case. @ (vhsl.org) they don't mention anything about it, just list the pairings for the Reigons in Round # 1 (Excluding Region D since the two Lee Co. schools still have to play each other)
  13. THUNDERCLOUD... Are you ""POSITIVE"" that the #1 seed is locked in to play the 5@4 winner? I still have heard it from """SEVERAL""" people that #1 will host the "LOWEST REMAINING SEED" for round two. For instance in Region "C"-DII - If James River(#6) upsets Ft. Chiswell (#3) then the Knights will play the #1 seed George Wythe. So GW therefore not "LOCKED" into playing the winner of the (5@4 seed) - Giles/Radford contest.
  14. GMAN It is still my understanding that the #1 Plays the "Lowest Remaining Seed", so they are not locked into the winner of the 5@4 Game if the #6 upsets a #3 then #1 would play #6
  15. I am still confused (have heard two different versions) of the new six team format for Region C. #1 & #2 get the "byes" with (6@3) & (5@4). Round TWO is where I have the question. Does the number ONE seed host the winner of the 5/4 game or do they play the LOWEST REMAINING SEED which could be a #6 if they upset #3. I have asked several people and EXACTLY HALF say that #1 is LOCKED in to host the winner of 5/4 and #2 is LOCKED in to host the winner of 6/3. Of course the other HALF say that #1 will host the lowest remaining seed which could be a #6 if there is an upset OF THE #3 in Round One.
  16. I was just curious, because he calculates with the VHSL formula so it is accurate. It shows how the playoffs are shaping up with 3-4 weeks remaining.
  17. I have noticed on (virginiapreps.com) that "glennrivers" posts an updated power point list each week: http://virginiapreps.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=2539&mid=127066697&sid=914&tid=127066697&style=2&Override=1 He has listed both Clintwood & J.I. Burton with TWO Losses each instead of one under the Region D Chart for the last three weeks. Can someone with an account on that site pass the error on to him?
  18. GW over Chilhowie 28-14 Holston over Northwood 42-7 Rural Retreat over Pat Henry 26-20
  19. According to the front page sports story in today's Bristol Herald, the St. Paul quarterback will not be able to play in their opener with Holston this Friday. The article leads you to believe that he may return at some point later in the season, but does anyone know the extent of his injury and when he can return. He has put up some great career numbers as a 3 yr starter, so this will obviously be a tough blow for the Deacons who obviously have aspirations at winning the Cumberland.
  20. For Grayson Co, I guess you are talking about either Mt. Rogers or Oak Hill. Mt. Rogers I think only had a JV girls basketball team at one time, but not sure if they still do. Oak Hill does play many Hogo schools in varsity baseball and volleyball and their "red" team also plays against teams from SWVA in basketball. Of course everyone knows how the "gold" team travels the country for Basketball to compete with some of the best teams in the nation. Since Oak Hill is a private Academy, that shouldn't have any connection to the public HS in Grayson.
  21. Thanks for the explanation bucfan64 & VHSLhelper
  22. What I concur about the criteria of using "County" in the official High School name is determined by whether or not there is another HS in that county (who competes in athletics). Therefore it is incorrect to say Lee County HS since Tom Walker is also located there., just like it is incorrect to say Giles County HS, since Narrows is also there. Like VHSLhelper discussed, Rocky Gap High combines with Bland High for athletics, so it is then okay to say Bland County when they participate as a merged team. Bath, Floyd, Grayson, Highland, Carroll, Pulaski, Craig, and Patrick all have "County" in their official title since there are not any other VHSL participating high schools in their county. The exception to this rule might be Alleghany High, which I don't think uses the official title Alleghany County High School - I do know that Covington HS is a city school that is completely surrounded by the county, so I am not sure if this has any bearing, but Galax city is sandwiched between Grayson and Carroll counties, and it does not change either of their titles.
  23. An earlier thread brought up a discussion about schools combining for athletics. For example, Rocky Gap students can travel to Bland High (Not Bland COUNTY High) and play for the Bears. If I am correct Council High students are given the option to combine with Twin Valley (Garden & Whitewood) for football (Don't know how many Council students actually play football @ TV - given their rivalry on the basketball court), but do any of the elders on here know if the Cobras ever had a football team of their own?
  24. On the subject of schools combining for sports. I am pretty sure that Council High combines with Twin Valley (Garden & Whitewood) for football, but have the Cobras ever had a football team of their own?
  25. GMAN...Aren't Grayson and Bland (Grayson County High School) and (Bland County High School)? -- Along with Bath, Craig, and Highland
