  1. Have you forgot about Richie Thomas.

I would have to agree with you.  Coach Thomas was a much better coach.  He coached at Holston and did a good job.  At that time, PH football needed an identity and Coach Thomas really brought that to them.  Much like Matlock did for Holston.  Some of  the best years of Holston were the Matlock years.  I feel for our Cavs this year.  Coach Patterson is doing a good job with what he has.

  2. I'm not attacking the kid and glad he has found a place where he can compete.  I never understood the transfer thing and it was a known fact in this county that they shopped around looking for a place to go because of the competition level at Abingdon.  Tried here but couldn't beat our Seth Thomas, so went to PH.  I apologize if stating the truth appears to be attacking, it is not.  I will say that if PH had not had four transfers (three from Abingdon) they would not be where they are today.  With that said, the Wright kid has helped them but for FALCON to elude or even hint that he dominated Holston the past two years is just plain wrong.  I included the stats from that game and said my peace.  Thank You

  3. He may not be great but he has thrown for well over 1000 yds the last 2 years and definitely lit you guys up. PHs JV would have probably beaten you all. I know Abingdons JV would have. Mark Palmer is a very good person, he called off the dogs early. You really shouldn't disrespect kids that way. I understand that you are a sad man but the Cavs will be back.....one day.

He has not lit up the Cavs in the past 2 years.

The stats show he got his yards when we had our JV kids in there.  It was 49-0 before they scored on us last year.  The stats don't lie.  I don't understand why you are defending him FALCON  he left your school and went to another school for "football" reasons?

  4. I kinda side with Counts here, how does a team with a "great QB", "one of the better tight ends in the area" a " Very, Very good MLB" and "3 or 4 really good receivers" lose to TW?

I know a lot can change over the course of a season but TW? really?

This is my point.  I've seen PH this year.  They do not have a great QB but do have a good running back.  If they didn't have the running back they wouldn't have beat the Cavs.  I just know how Clintwood is the standard in 1A football and PH can't match that.  One and done.

  5. I have to admit I have been waiting as well.  I thought Richlands was going to come back after half time.  They seem to do that, but I guess being down by 2 scores really made it tough.  I guess Falconman is still recovering from his victory tacos. Lol  I can only imagine his response will be.  On a personal note, proud of Holston finally getting in the win column this week beating Rural Retreat.  Congratulations to Coach Patterson and kids.

  6. I can't stop chuckling from this thread.

    Points of emphasis -

    Falconman had speed, lol

Southbound's dad actually coaching somewhere besides the bleachers - lol

Sneaking in a cat to urinate on a helmet - lol

And whomever came up with the "Randy Reid" angle was just plain hilarious.

You two clowns really do make me laugh.  On a serious note, I do think Abingdon has a chance this year.  AHS 21  RHS 17

  7. I think not having him there for the day to day preparations hurts.  However, Holston is rebuilding now after a long successful stint under The Coach.  You can't argue with his success.  Two region titles.

  8. I was really hoping Northwood would've beat George Wythe.  Still a good story for that size of a school to have that record.  It was so nice to see Holston finally get the job done last year against George Wythe.  We miss that coach and team this year!

  9. Big win for Northwood High School.  It's good to see a small school taking it to the larger schools.  Looking at their remaining schedule, I think they go undefeated this year which would make them out point Honaker for the number 1 spot.  Just my analysis.

  10. I hope that Tazewell wins this match up.  I am appalled of the lack of sportsmanship shown by Marion's Head Coach this past Friday Night.  Everyone knows its been a tough transition for our club this year.  We are struggling to find traction.  After having a comfortable lead and a score, Marion chose to onside kick it so they can get another score.  This to me is their head coach's way of padding their stats.  It was certainly uncalled for and I think they will get whats coming to them.  Another reason why they can't win in the playoffs.  Overrated stats from beating up smaller schools and a classless coach.  I certainly hope Tazewell wins this game.

  11. When I tell Southy to up his game THIS is what im talking about!  Falconboy always brings it! Fresh, bold and completly rediculious

They say confession is good for the soul. Well, I must confess that there was a time I checked this message board for local high school sports news (still do) and to read Leonard's Losers (I miss that, but do think these two have replaced it).  Yes there was a time that the two chirping birds got on my nerves.  But friends, today has been a challenging day.  What do I do when I need to escape?  I read this board because I know I am going to get a chuckle out of something.  Today was no different.  I read through this "amazing" ridiculous thread and literally laughed out loud.  I want to thank you Falconboy and Southy for amusing me.

  12. It could be worse. We could be two games into the season and already have 113 points scored on us. Must be cause THE COACH isn't there.

Its fine.  Go ahead and take your shots at the smallest school in our county.  But, Holston is still trying to find their identity.  Its tough replacing a top notch coach like Jason Matlock.  I applaud our current coach in his efforts.  Word spreads fast here in Damascus.  Lets just say that there are some pieces of the puzzle being put in this week.  Nevertheless, its still tough to go the distance without THE COACH.

  13.

Things were problematic from the start.  It began with channel 11, waking us up early and getting us hyped.  If we had played the game last Friday morning it would have been different. Everyone knows that Falcons hunt better in the morning. By the time our students left there, they had no voices to cheer on our Falcons.  The only cheering doneFriday night was from me and Southy.  I ask Southbound whats wrong with the student section, his dad replied its that dam news channel 11, they lost their voices this morning showboating for freaking tv!! Even though we were at home, it was like the referees thought we were playing away, several times I watched our sideline try to get in a fresh ball, only to be turned away?  Who wants to play with wet balls?? Finally,  its also obvious that Gate City had a team who were hold backs. We played some young kids.  Its well known that a 19 year old is stronger than a 16 year old!  I call upon the VHSL to investigate their birth cards because its a known fact that they hold back.  Anyways, thank goodness we have the braves, I mean the warriors this week.   They come in 1-1 just like us; however, we didn't lose to the candy canes new "baseball"team, they did!! Falcons recover and win putting us back on track for state!

Maybe its because those students had nothing to cheer for?  Its my understanding that Gate City really put it on your Falcons.  However, I must admit that I do enjoy reading you and your sidekick's excuses.  It really makes me chuckle.  One of the reasons I even look at the message board.

  14. While I agree Coach Lee should have finished out the season the Principal did try to force him to hire Baker and possibly Wright back after the Abingdon game because Briscoe quit the program (he has since returned). The principal has no business getting involved with the football program once a coach has been hired and I don't blame Lee for wanting to distance himself from those two so he could run his own program. Now Battle is back in the same boat they were last year with a lame duck head coach. What qualifed coach will put in for the job next year after seeing how the principal treats the head football coach?

Yet another example of Jeff Hawkins not making good decisions.  Briscoe quit the previous Abingdon football staff as well in the middle of the season if I remember correctly?  So, he quits Battle and now you let him back on the staff?  Who is holding the Principal accountable?  Sorry, I just think when you are in leadership, you lead.  Poor example of leadership.

  15. I think you guys are selling Coach Reed short.  Yes, Coach Colobro is a tremendous coach.  I am not taking anything away from him.  But I challenge you to examine the good book, there you will find the prophet Elijah who had an understudy named Elisha.  Did you know that Elisha followed Elijah and when the two parted, Elisha ended up performing more miracles than Elijah?  Some food for thought.  He has definitely changed my opinion of him.  Give the young coach a chance.  It reminds me of our previous coach's first year.  Don't sell the young coach short so quickly.

  16. Any success Abingdon has this year won't be because of Reed. The best coaching decision he has ever made was to bring Colobro up to Abingdon.

  17. I am really disappointed in this whole situation.  I think the Principal is the first to blame due to his lack of discernment in hiring an unproven coach.  It was easy to hire Steve Wright in the beginning because he was a honorable candidate.  Nevertheless, when the time came to replace Coach Wright with quality coach, Principal Hawkins failed both the kids and fans of John Battle High School.  Second, I blame Coach Lee.  How can you leave those boys?  No matter the situation, you finish what you start.  My prayers are with those kids and Coach Wright for saving this season.  Steve Wright is a great man.

  18. Really excited about these boys this year.  We've suffered some injuries but the young guns have stepped up.  Hard to replace our qb but the Seymore boy has stepped up. Proud of him.   After a complete blow out by our JV over Holston last night the change has finally came.  Dont sleep on the Rebels. Excited to see whats next.

I understand that your team really struggled against Northwood and you didn't score until they put in their JV?  With regards to Holston, I haven't been following as close but will be able to see the home games. PH is one of them and I will be there.  With that said, Holston is rebuilding and are trying to find their identity now that "The Coach" has moved on.

Wright will be back by Twin Springs. Maybe TW if they need him. The Seymore kid is a special athlete. They have looked good during scrimmages.

I hope the young man is doing better.  Hate to see a kid hurt.

  19. Its official. . . . and it is bitter sweet. The Cavs will not be the same without "The Coach" being at the helm. From the beginning to the end, Coach Matlock was a family man and tremendous role model for our community. In our parts, small school and small town, Coach Matlock was Holston. He brought this school back to being relevant in football. During his tenure, we wore our Cavalier t-shirts with pride. I personally enjoyed the fine folks from the surrounding areas who would pat you on the back and say good luck Friday. This was not heard of before "The Coach" came here. The fantastic and exceptional job by Coach Matlock was evident on the field as well by winning two regional titles. Titles aside, the family man, role model, and of course The Coach will be missed. As Santana said "there's never one sunrise the same or one sunset the same," and for sure there will never be another Cavalier coach the same.
