Just under an hour away from kickoff at Mitchell and the rain has begun.

Richlands should dominate girls basketball in the SWD and will make noise in the region. I think Wise-Central will be deeper which will cause them to win the region, and probably state. However, Richlands has the best player on this side of the state. If you haven't seen the Trivett girl play just wait. She's a Freshman and in my opinion is the best player in SWVA (yes that's including McCamis from Wise). She'll be going to a D1 college no doubt. She would have won SWD player of the year last year as an 8th grader. She's the best player I've seen on this side of the state in a very long time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the VHSL take home 100% of those ticket sales as well? If I remember correctly when it gets to this point of the season the schools themselves see very little money come in, which is sad considering how many more fans come out this time of the season and how much money some of these high schools miss out on.

That was the best turnout of the year for the visiting side by far, not including the Bluefield game. And they stayed until the final whistle. Big shout out to Gate City fans for making that drive and hanging out in the cold. I got to talk to a few Gate City fans today. I think Gate City folks love sports in general more than other areas. It doesn't matter if its football or volleyball or softball. I feel like every time I see a game at Gate City, male sport or female sport, they have their bleachers filled. I love seeing that support for the school and the students/players.
