I've heard both, the good and bad.  I've worked that way before and have experienced both.  I believe it comes down to different circumstances and everyone has their own opinion.  As with everything else, one incident can label a community or program.  People had told me the same thing about Riverview last year but we never seen anything negative, people were nice and respectful.

Yea, I think I'd forfeit if I was Tazewell and just stay home...….lol...😂  Should be a decent game Hurley has a young  team and there great kids...

Murders Row continues this week with Class 4 Byrd coming to Ernie Hicks. For those who don't know much about Byrd, Larry Basham is the man at RB. He's GOOD. Gonna be tough for the Blues again.

Storm coming to Hicks this coming Friday...

Speaking of Hurley, that transfer Richlands got is looking like a full grown man out there this morning. They must grow beards at 12 over there.

He's a beast....look forward to watch him this year.

  4. But its not 11 on 11. Its 22 on 22, except when a really small school plays a school twice their size its 22 v 11.  This years Hurley team could play with any school in SWVA other than Union or Richlands but wouldn't win many of those games. Numbers make a big difference.

Give me 35 vs your 20 with equally talented players and I will beat you 9 times out of 10

11 clean jersey's coming on the field as good as the 11 walking off pays dividends. absolutely agree with you.

  5. I was referring to the other thread that vanished.

I can agree that Hurley might not be on the level of Galax and maybe GW (although I am not completely sold on that). I feel they are a better team than honaker and PH though.

I do think it is great one of the smallest school in the state is having some success though. Legitimately, good for that town! Also, I realize the excitement sometimes fills over onto the board from "fanatics".

No harm no foul my friend I agree...all in fun

Channel 7 in Roanoke did a piece on PH last night just caught the tell end of it.

  6. I am not hating on Hurley... In fact I tip my hat at them. They are a solid team that has the make up of possibly being a team that plays into November/December. I am just mentioning the weak schedule. As a sports fan, it is tough to sit back and watch irrational fans talk about how awesome their team is when they play a schedule like Hurley's. Hurley is good... that is a fact but Hurley also plays a weak schedule. Tough to really gauge where they stand IMO when they are playing weak opponents.

The discussion that pops up from Rebel fans is they will win state or at least inferred they will. It is just tough for me to see that when playing teams that struggle to probably field teams and beating them by 50.

Point out  the post where an irrational fan said Hurley was awesome in this thread....You cant because it didn't happen...Check your facts there Hillary

  7. Yes! More irrational talk about Hurley!

What's irrational about it? I played and pulled for a team that hasn't had a winning season since 1978. There smaller than Hurley actually they showed up and played at Hurley last year with only 13 kids dressed so I guess I pull for the little guys out there. God bless you have a good day.

  8. A "jab" or not.... it is facts there Hilary. I am anxious to see Hurley's combined opponent record at the end of the year.

As of right now Hurley has played teams with a combined 6-19 record. They have left Grundy (6-0), Honaker (2-3), Twin Valley (2-3), Twin Springs (2-3), Phelps, KY (1-4). Grundy will likely be their only challenge until the playoffs.

I don't disagree with either of you about who they've beat or whos left to play nor the quality of opponent. Just wondering why you love hating on a school with probably less than 200 kids and you seem to like it. Grundy is down also in numbers I d like to see all the small schools do well. They put in the work just like the big boys.

  9. Hey Bud, I've been saying this all season that Hurley has a weak schedule! When somebody says Abingdon, Richlands, Graham, Union, Galax and Giles are great teams I agree cause their playing the "cream of the crop" of Southwest VA or legit out of state teams week in and week out!

I agree they haven't played any body yet but I stick to what I said you took a jab at them..

  10. Forgot about 5-0 Grundy. Patrick Henry's bout like Hurley, just with a lot tougher schedule. They use to be one of the worse teams in SWVA, so I'm happy to see that program doing well the past two seasons. They still have Wythe, Chilhowie and Rural Retreat to test them. But yeah I agree Henry could be a dark horse and if Hurley gets hype for beating up weak teams then Henry should be getting some hype too!

I saw you guys ganging up on a guy for tooting Hurleys horn the other night then you come on here and and slight them..Your no better.

  11. Grundy had 2 or 3 TD's called back tonight. Also had the ball twice more inside the 10 and penalties or honakers D killed the drive. Last offensive play for Grundy should have just been a QB sneak but they tried to run up the gut and got stuffed. Jackson also caught a pass in double coverage in the end zone that was out with his foot on the line on 4th down that could have been another TD. Score could have easily been a lot more in Grundy's favor.

Hubbard got tossed, what happens to him now? Does he miss the next game?

Honaker's kicker nailed a 45 yard+ FG tonight to score the only points for them. Good looking kid, he's legit.

Was not a fan of the refs tonight...white hat in particular was an asshole. Threw a flag for unsportsmanlike on a kid for yelling after a key stop. Gave Honaker a fresh set of downs and 15 yards instead of Grundy's ball and them punting from the goal line. End of the game they were holding up the game basically giving honaker almost a free timeout and stopping the clock on every play. Even put 4 seconds back on the clock at one point. Hate to see the refs hav the potential to change the outcome of a game like this.

First time Grundy has beaten Honaker in 20 years.

Fun game to watch, good luck to Honaker going forward. Looks like they have a lot of young kids playing and should be back to the usual strength soon.

Hubbard is use to having his way with the Buchanan County teams. This year it's his turn to be took to the wood shed.. Grundy should have beat them much worse your correct on that Lance and I also agree the Refs done there best to keep them in it. If a 7-3 loss unravels him that bad he better medicate before he goes to Hurley because unless he can bring Heath Miller out of retirement I feel he's in for a good spanking.... Congratulations Grundy on your win and Honaker will be back in a year or so.
