  1. Spotswood pressed Altavista. The Colonels did not like being pressed. They had a few easy lay ups but probably had more turnovers than layups. Spotswood beat them that night.
  2. I am glad there is at least another poster with a sense of humor! You probably already know this but I was referring to 2A only when mentioning 4 teams from the area with a chance to advance deep in the playoffs. Honaker has a very, very good team. I will say this about the 2014 Bearcat baseball team, they would have won the state with or without the transfer. He certainly made it easier though. I will send your coach a picture of the 1981 and 1983 championship rings of the Bearcats (I want to keep the real thing so a picture will have to do).
  3. Oh well, it was worth a try. The Blue 'Nadors have been awfully quiet this basketball season. Thought I would throw them a bone.
  4. G-Man...everybody knows VHS will run the table and win the conference, region and state. They would win the ACC, NCAA and possibly the NBA if given the chance. These guys are that good!
  5. Overrated? Maybe. I think most everyone who has posted here acknowledges that there are 4 teams with a chance to go far...VHS being one of them. Very few teams go undefeated. VHS lost 6 games so far this year. I would not really call any of them "bad" losses either. Maybe they do not lose a couple of those early season tournament games with a different coach. Maybe they lose more. Regardless, VHS has had a nice season. I hope they end up having a great one. By the way, what kind of young baseball talent is coming along in Honaker? We might need a player or two next season.
  6. I hope Blacksburg works out for the guy. I have always liked that program/school. I liked their old coach and I like his son. Believe me, I understand the nuances associated with keeping the little lady happy by moving closer to "home". I was able to hold out longer than most. I figured saying something "less than glowing" about a former Richlander would garner a few responses.
  7. I guess taking basically a lateral transfer as head coach at one school to another is "moving up the ladder". Nothing against this guy at all...I do not know him, but coaches who have happy feet rarely succeed in the long term. Maybe he has simply been trying to get to the current job and those other jobs were stepping stones. Time will tell. Side bar...Ryan, retract your claws and stop typing. This is an observation based upon years of experience and not an indictment on Richlands.
  8. How did Dan River do against Altavista? Just curious because I have seen Altavista and think VHS is a better team. I know this is not the best way to analyze a possible match-up but right now, there is not much else.
  9. V-Cats...I played for Ballard Lee so I expect a lot out of a coach. I do not think we have had a coach of his caliber since. Reed is not as bad as everyone says (myself included).
  10. I do not think there is a whole of difference between VHS, Gate City, Union and Lebanon. Come playoff time, coaching becomes more important. VHS has some talent, as do the other aforementioned teams, but they may be at the bottom of the pecking order in the coaching category. I hope Reed proves me wrong.
  11. Normally, I would think that if VHS also wins the tournament, that the tournament runner up would get the other region spot. But with the way this conference is set up, one better not make assumptions.
  12. VHS gets it done on the road. Congrats to my beloved Bearcats.
  13. I just got back home from watching a game and a half of the Bull Run District tournament. The school my youngest will go to is in the conference with several Bull Run teams. I asked one of the parents in attendance how they handle the conference tournament. Here is what I was told: Every conference 35 team gets 7 points for beating a conference team. At the end of the season, all points earned are totaled and then divided by the number of games played in conference. Each team is ranked in that way. The conference tournament winner and runner up get region bids. Everybody else is done. The regular season is for seeding only and there is no requirement to play any conference team. They can play each other 0, 1, 2, 3, etc times. I looked at the Strasburg High School website. That is where the conference standings are kept. Several conference 35 teams have not and will not play at all in the regular season. This is the last year for their district tournament.
  14. I just read the VHSL site concerning the conferences. You Union guys need to give it a rest about VHS "screwing" it up. The schools within the conferences are basically given a free hand to decide who and how many conference teams make the conference tournament and how they want to give the 2 automatic berths to the regionals. Most conferences have decided to hold a tournament with the winner and runner up getting the bids. No controversy there. Conference 40 stepped in it when they decided to give the conference tournament champion one of the bids and the "regular" season conference winner the other automatic bid. To make that work, every team in the conference would have to play each other 2X. Fine...but Conference 40 DID NOT make it mandatory. Conference 40 could have required all schools, VHS included, to play everybody 2X. They did not make that requirement. So get off the Bearcat's back! Having the Union game count double in the standings and it being on Union's home court is definitely NOT to the advantage of the Bearcats. Having to play Central-Wise 2X would not help the Bearcats improve. And quite honestly, neither would playing JSB 2X. At least not this year, anyway. You need to point your fingers at the geniuses making the conference decisions. VHS stands to lose quite a bit in this scenario. (On a side note: I officially decided to ignore a certain poster. However, I want it known that there is no universe, plane, dimension or alter world in which that poster could be condescending toward me).
  15. If conference 40 has chosen the set up as you described, there is absolutely no need for districts. So in essence, the conference has become the "district". But it really is not because there are unbalanced schedules. Teams do not have to play everybody twice in conference. If there were no district requirements, it would be easier to play conference teams home-home. If VHS played everybody in the conference 2X, it would necessitate either not playing traditional rivalry games (THS) or not playing tournaments. The VHSL limits the number of games a team can play. If this is the case, I would strongly endorse doing away with districts as a whole. As I understand it now, the districts are a hindrance rather than a plus.
  16. Brady has a "smoking hot wife" for sure. Too bad he left his pregnant wife for this one. That has not a lot to do with his ability as a football player but since you brought it up...
  17. I must be missing what you are saying guru. The conference champ is decided by winning the conference tournament, not by who is seeded higher going into the conference tournament. So there is no need to have a playoff simply to decide conference seeding. A team has to win the conference tournament to get the regional berth. Or maybe this conference has chosen to do things differently? By the way, VHS plays everyone in their district 2X. Union is not in the district so why do you make it sound like it is big deal to not play Union 2X? . I am not sure what "league" to which you refer. Districts and Conferences (league?) are two totally different beasts
  18. Maybe I am missing something. VHS is 7-1 in conference 40. Their only conference loss was to Gate City. They only have one conference game left (tonight v. Union). Their other game is v. Abingdon (non-conference). VHS did lose to Union but that was in the Alpha Natural Resources Tournament and I do not believe that tournament losses count in the conference standings totals. Looks to me like VHS can do no worse than tie for the #1 seed since everyone else in the conference has at least 2 losses already. Even if there was a tie, I doubt there would be a playoff for conference seedings. I believe the conference ADs got together in the summer to determine the format to break ties. Head-to-head, record v. common opponents, district champs, etc will probably decide the conference seedings. I do not believe there is enough time, given the state dates o have extra playoff games.
  19. I thought VHS and Lebanon were in the SWD while Union and GC are in the MD. I know districts do not really mean much but I was referring to the district regular season.
  20. I believe with last nights win over Lebanon, they wrapped up the regular season.
  21. I saw an official, this year, call a technical on a team when he thought an assistant coach was standing up and coaching the team. After he called the technical, he was informed that the man standing was the head coach and not an assistant. The official did not believe him and after the AD confirmed that he was in fact the head coach, he refused to change his call. That happened in the first five minutes of the game.
  22. Officiating is bad all over it seems. I was at an East Rockingham game the other night and saw something I had never seen before. ER was inbounding the ball after a made basket. As the player attempted to inbound the ball, uncontested, he threw the ball into the backside of the backboard and watched it go out of bounds. The official blew the whistle and then just stood there. He made no call and appeared to be trying to recall who won the 1968 election. The other zebras went to him and after a 5 minute conference (literally took 5 minutes) called a jump ball. He saw the ball thrown by the ER player; he saw it hit the back of the backboard and carom out of bounds The play ended up only changing the possession arrow and the game was never close. But, it could have been huge had the game been close and with possessions being vital.
  23. If you bothered to read that list, Peyton holds more than just one passing record. As I said, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, Manning is the #1 overall QB and that link provides a part of the reason I believe this to be true. You get yourself bound in knots when your opinion is not accepted as the gospel. I hate to tell you this but there has been only one perfect person on this Earth and you my friend are not him. I am now going to decide if you are actually worthy of a significant lambasting or if you should be completely ignored. I think just ignoring you would cut you deeper but using you as a whipping post is also very appealing. To be determined...
  24. This was a huge win for VHS. First time in 20 years they have bested THS in Viking Hall. I believe the Bearcats just may have a good chance in the post season. I almost made the 290 mile trip back.
  25. IMHO, this list shows why Peyton is at the TOP of the list: http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/10/19/7010081/peyton-manning-nfl-record-list-most-touchdowns-509
