Reg IV Div Seeding

Graham (18.8 on VHSL scale) and Tazewell (16.7) have games which might affect seeding for the playoffs. If both win then the first round game would be at Bluefield. IF Carroll should win and Tazewell win, is it possible the game would be at Tazewell? Carroll (7-2 and 17.7 VHSL) is big school AA and Honaker (8-1) is single-A. Could any good mathematicians out there give the answer to this one?

OK, here is the math...

Graham has 169 points. If they lose to Carroll Co., they will receive 14 pts. for the loss (6+8). Plus, in your scenario, a Tazewell win would give them 2 more points. This would give Graham a MINIMUM of 185 points. Also, Graham would have the potential of earning 4 more points from Martinsville victories, 4 more points from Blacksburg victories, 2 pts. from a Marion victory, 1 pt. from a Richlands victory, 4 pts. from Grundy victories, and 2 points from a Virginia High victory.

Tazewell has 150 points. With a win over Honaker, they would receive 28 pts. for the win (12+16). Tazewell is guaranteed 2 points from the winner of the Abingdon-Marion game and 1 pt. from the winner of the Graham-Carroll Co. game. Also, Tazewell would have the potential of earning 1 point for a George Wythe victory, 2 points for a Lebanon victory (over Richlands), 1 point for a Richlands victory (over Lebanon), 2 points for a Virginia High victory, and 4 pts. from Grundy victories.

Since both teams would receive the same amount of points for Richlands, Virginia High, and Grundy, we can throw those out, of the scenario.

So, if Tazewell would MAX OUT on points from the other games that don't involve "common opponents", they have the potential to earn 34 points, giving them a potential MAX (not counting "common opponents" since both teams would receive the same amount of points for the three teams mentioned above) of 184 points...not enough to surpass Graham's absolute minimum of 185.

I have a question?...say sumthing dramatic happens this friday and the wonderful Lee High generals beat Va.High...and then Grundy wins out or Dan River does...would V-high still be in or would either of those 2 teams possibly make it, cause the bearcats have to win friday to automatically lock up a playoff berth, just curious.lol

yeah...thing is Abingdon and Lee are Div 4 and VHS and Marion are div 3 this year...in the past, Marion was Div 4 also...which means that if anyone other than Va High won...Grundy would have had a shot...but it looks like Marion in div 3 has killed that since from what big d says they are the only other ones that can win it besides va high?

Ok here it is. This was posted on VaPreps.

[ QUOTE ]

#1 - Richlands

#2 - Graham

#3 - Tazewell

#4 - Virginia High or Marion (if V-High beats Lee they are in as Highlands Champs, if Marion beats Abingdon and Lee beats V-High, Marion is in as Highlands Champs).

If Lee beats Va & Marion beats Abingdon, then we'd have 3 co-champs in the Highlands.

Lee would finish behind M & V in points, so they're out.

Marion would have a 2 point edge, and the only way VHS could pass them would be if, among other things, 0-9 Battle upsets 8-1 Wythe.

If they DO finish tied, Marion wins the next tie-breaker, so Va. can't sleepwalk through Ben Hur Fri. night.

If Marion & Va. both loss, Va. & Lee would be co-champs, with VHS getting the berth.

Everything's been summarized on my preview page since Sunday morning.
